MSNBC asked Florida Governor Crist if he exchanged his endorsement for any eventual VP slot. Meanwhile, we find out Crist had promised the endorsement to Rudy. I think McCain made a backroom deal on Crist's disaster insurance desire for Florida and ... it seems that what Crist really is, is someone who endorses the frontrunner, no matter who it is. Typical establishment politician, I guess.
Giuliani campaign sources said Crist pledged his endorsement to Giuliani in the early fall, when McCain’s campaign appeared dead and Giuliani was leading the state by double digits. But at the time, McCain supporters leaned on Crist to hold back and wait until after the New Hampshire primary. McCain had campaigned for Crist when he was seeking the Republican nomination for governor, and had hoped Crist would return the favor.

Sheesh, the animus McCain-haters hold toward the guy is really reaching irrational proportions when they start hating on the people who have the AUDACITY to support the guy.
Guiliani's supporters claim he promised them support. If he did, then why didn't he support Guiliani at the time? And if McCain had campaigned for Crist, and if it is true that Crist held up supporting Guiliani for that reason, so friggin' what? And since Rudy (who I supported until it became evident his strategy was skipping every primary until he found one he could possibly win, but waited so long that now it seems he'll lose even that one) doesn't seem to be working very hard for the nomination, why in hell is Crist obligated to endorse him?
Crist's major sin here seems to be he endorsed McCain, who Dan admittedly despises. If Crist had endorsed Romney, I guess he'd be fine with it.
I'm leaning more and more toward McCain because of the perfidy of those who back the racist cultist Romney. Ignoring the despicable hate his cult teaches on the basis that "he's the only real conservative" (we have only his word for that, he's done zero in practice to prove it as governor of Mass) is like backing Hitler because he makes the trains run on time.
The sheer idiocy of backing Romney because he's the "true conservative" when there is no proof he is, when he espouses religious tenets that would make a Klansman blush, and finally that he hasn't a snowball's chance in hell of beating either HIllary or Obama is amusing to me.
When McCain gets the nomination, and picks up enough Hillary-hating Dems and independents to win the election, he will be quite justified to completely ignore all you lockstep doctrinaire "conservatives" and your issues. Personally, all this dovetails with my distaste for the fact that many McCain haters base their hate on the fact he wants to make it easier for immigrants to be naturalized. As a 2nd generation immigrant, I have a hard time basing my political position on hating Mexicans, especially the xenophobic and hateful ideas espoused by people like Rusty on Jawa for a "five year moratorium on amnesty".
I'm for a fair, easy, and liberal route for citizenship for anyone who wants to be a citizen, barring violent criminals. I've yet to hear an argument that convinces me otherwise. And McCain is has the most "American" attitude toward that end.
The more I read by people who hate him the more I like him.

"I like him"
Well, heck, if my name were weasel, I suspect I'd like him, too! ; )

Actually, Governor Crist's endorsement of McCain might turn out to be a kiss of death here in Florida. The governor is not thought of too highly among conservatives who have examined his hurricane insurance plan among other issues -- the state being the insurer of last resort in the event of a catastrophe. A major hurricane will potentially bankrupt the entire state.
McCain may make a good president, but I would sooner take the endorsement of a common citizen than that of our erstwhile governor who has not shown much common sense on a number of occasions.

"...but I would sooner take the endorsement of a common citizen than that of our erstwhile governor who has not shown much common sense on a number of occasions."
Crist is touted by the MSM as a popular governor. He is not very popular in the Panhandle, and now this double-cross. It will be a pleasure to vote for any Democrat running against him for his present office, and I haven't voted for one since the '70s.

Docweasel: I'm not sure which endorsement helps McCandidate more. Yours or the NYTimes. Thanks for your comment.

Mormons are NOT a cult! I have a grandmother who is Mormon and she is just as good as any other Christian! Shame on you bigoted, discriminatory "evangelicals" - who CARES if Romney is Mormon? He's a good candidate, and unlike Guiliani, he's only had ONE wife (Guiliani had 4 different wives all in succession, I believe?).
