Via something I saw at The Politico. One could say, no wonder. Or perhaps, ... why would any conservative Republican bother meeting with the New York Times in order to gain their endorsement? Evidently, only one did.
Not surprisingly, McCain kept up his reputation for rarely denying access to journalists: he was the only Republican candidate to meet with the editorial board.
Congratulations Senator. You got what you were looking for.
Did he envision Rudy as the only threat at the time? That's the only other candidate this might conceivably help him against. Have Huckabee and Romney forced him to tack Right? If Rudy were the only star, as he was at the time, McCain would be perceived as the conservative, no matter what.
