Huckabee's "gates of Hell" statement last night is critical in any potential win in South Carolina; though it likely won't work. Ace points out how Huckabee is trying to motivate Evangelicals.
So pro-Huckabee organizers say they are focusing their entire effort on turning out evangelical church goers.
But in South Carolina, Huckabee is only drawing 23% of the Evangelical vote. McCain's at 22% and is using a Pro-Life mailer. South Carolina is also home to the nation's largest military population, including a large number of retirees. Advantage McCain.
On page four you'll find the breakdown for the White Evangelical vote. Twenty-three for Huckabee, 22 for McCain and 16 for Mitt with 19% undecided. It looks like Huck's support among Evangelicals is not monolithic. I wonder how many of them listen to Rush?
Look for McCain and Fred to push Huckabee's Liberal foreign policy. Look for more hellfire and damnation for our enemies talk from Huckabee. The battle for the military and Evangelical vote will determine the outcome in SC. McCain currently has the advantage. It would help if the NRA stepped up, but I suspect Huckabee is too strong on gun rights for them to weigh in against him.
Meanwhile, Huckabee is working hard, and getting Liberal Democrat support, to play the spoiler in Michigan in an attempt to end Romney's campaign.
LaMar Lemmons, the Detroit state representative who helped organize the successful Democratic crossover effort that helped McCain beat Bush here in 2000, recently launched Democrats for Huckabee -- the sort of group that can make a real difference in a state where the lack of party registration allows for large-scale crossover voting.

Isn't McCain's illegitimate black child from South Carolina?

How would you know the child would be classified as black? The old racists used to say one drop of black blood makes 'em black. But then, I guess since you're concerned about the child's race, the "old racists" are still with us. You certainly have no problem with the child's "legitimacy" too do you? Sad, very, very sad but typical demonrat thinking.

By the way. For folks who may not know the truth. The "illegitimate" child in question is Indian (Bangladesh) and they adopted her. She's sorta like Brad Pitt's black bastard kids

I'm an Evangelical and a Baptist. It bothers me that Mr. Huckabee should arrogate to himself the prerogative of sending the enemies of the US not just to the afterlife, but to Hell. The Saviour said, "But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him." Even if elected President of the US, Mr. Huckabee will not have that power.
He does himself and MY religion a disservice with such ill considered bravado.

Steve, ever think he may have meant that statement more figuratively than literally. I mean since we have a missile called teh HellFire. Just saying maybe we shouldn't judge people for judging people

The best thing about having Mike Huckleberry as the GOP nominee isn't that backwoods bible-thumpers will be openly mocked in the press and every day conversation for 6 months, but that it will remind the normal folks out there just how crazy the GOP has become. It's back to the wilderness for you trolls, where you belong.
