Straight talk, indeed. See, apart from the disputes on issues, this kind of thing is what really makes me dislike John McCain. Yes, pols spin. They all do. But McCain's entire shtick is based on a lie - that he's somehow above all that. He very much reminds me of Bill Clinton in that regard.
Mr. McCain has joked on previous occasions about his lack of economic expertise. And in a debate earlier this month, he said that he would stimulate the economy by cutting government spending, a move that economists say would have the opposite effect.
“The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should,” he said last month, according to The Boston Globe. “I’ve got Greenspan’s book.”
"Noting that he also later ran the Senate Commerce Committee, Mr. McCain said in the interview that he would feel no need to select a vice president with expertise in economic policy to balance his own foreign-policy experience."
Character matters. And it's impossible to jibe McCain's touting himself as a straight talker, when he's no better than anyone else. His entire facade is phony. And I simply don't trust people like that. Add in the issue disputes, and the guy becomes a total nightmare. I honestly don't know if I could pull the lever for a man like this. I'd probably just stay home. Maybe if they put showers in the voting booth, I'll reconsider. I really hate this type of game playing in people who want our trust. And that's why I don't like John McCain - he's a phony and that makes him a liar. He probably likes Hillary because they are so much alike.
"On at least one occasion, McCain has raised the matter himself. On Nov. 10, while traveling through New Hampshire on his Straight Talk Express bus, McCain was asked what he would seek in a vice presidential candidate if nominated. After mentioning the ability of a potential running mate to replace the president, McCain said, 'You also look for people who maybe have talents you don't, or experience or knowledge you don't, as well.' 'What are those qualities that you don't - that you wouldn't mind complementing?' asked David Brooks, a columnist for The New York Times. McCain paused. 'Uh, maybe I shouldn't say this, but, somebody who's really well grounded in economics,' he said."

Voting for McCain or Hillary is something I will never do. As someone said, the good thing about election night will be knowing that one of them lost. It really makes no difference which one. They both make my skin crawl.

"And that's why I don't like John McCain - he's a phony and that makes him a liar."
Ok, McCain's a phony? What does that make Mitt Romney? The man will say absolutely anything to get elected. What are his core values? Does he have any? Sure he sounds like a conservative NOW...how did he sound when running against Teddy for the US senate in MA?

Wrong again, TheSpartan.
His statements as "saying anything" to get elected is false. He ran for the Senator and Governor in the most liberal state of the union but his actions as Governor contradicts what he has said prior to the election. John Kerry's label of flipflopper was accurate because his actions were opposite of what he said in the running for the Presidency of the United States. Not the other way around. It's no different from John Edwards' label of flipflopper as well.
He has always been family-centered, pro-life, pro-capitalism, pro-nationalism, etc. Prove to me that he isn't.

He told the gay caucus in mass that he'd be more pro gay rights than Ted Kennedy, is that enough for you?
He's been pro-abortion, now he's against...he's an opportunist, plain an simple.

TheSpartan,
Again you're wrong on that. Show me a legislation or action he's done to advance the pro-abortion or pro-gay rights scene. He came out in support of the Marriage Amendment which was being proposed against gay marriage. He even testified in front of the Senate regarding this issue to try and get the Marriage Amendment passed.. Where's your proof that he has taken action to advance these agendas? Oh wait, they're statements is all you got vs actions I've got. The court system in Massachusetts was the one that allowed gay marriage temporarily ala Roe vs Wade style, not Romney.

Whitewashing the Vietnam MIA affair with John Kerry, that's his foreign policy experience. So Clinton could give'em trade status.

"Oh wait, they're statements is all you got vs actions I've got."
So his words don't mean anything? Sounds like he follows along in a long tradition in the GOP.

TheSpartan,
You're the one bashing Romney over statements he's made vs actions he hasn't taken to advance these so-called agenda you've been claiming he's been pushing. Prove he's been pushing these agendas. He was campaigning in the most liberal state in the union.
A) He stated issues about pro-abortion issues. Hasn't taken any legislation to approve any of them anyways.
B) Supposedly made statements about pro-gay rights although he campaigned for the Marriage Amendment to be passed in the United States. That contradicts what he stated.
He's demonstrated his platform over and over again which he states is his platform today and there's nothing you can do to bash that down. You're the one bashing him supposedly over things he's done but you haven't proven to me he's taken these platforms.
Before, people were claiming that Romney was doing what the media wanted him to be although Newsbusters.org would have a huge talk with them over that issue.
Again, you still fail to prove to me that Romney has done actions to contradict what he states like John Kerry has done.
He's been very consistent and you got a 1994 advertisement. Stay classy, TheSpartan.

"Prove he's been pushing these agendas."
You've missed my point completely. What I said was that he'd "say anything" in order to get elected and by pointing out what he's said in the past to different constituencies is all the proof I need. He doesn't have to have acted on any of them. Telling conservative gays that he'll do more for them than Ted Kennedy is plenty, ESPECIALLY if he goes out and does just the opposite.
Posted by: TheSpartan | Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 09:51 PM
Yes, he does have to act on them. The flipflopping issue credited to John Kerry or John Edwards cannot applied to Mitt Romney whatsoever. He in the Massachusetts Government acted to respect the wishes of the Commonwealth and people of Massachusetts which he did fine. Now he's running on a national platform which is different scenario for the people of the United States of America. Two huge different diverse groups. One that is mostly liberal in the state of Massachusetts and one that is moderate slightly right of center in the United States.
Your points are bullshit and nonsense. You've been trying to push McCain McCain McCain down our fucking throats here then again going by your blog, you're trying to suggest we pick the biggest morons which is either McCain or Huckabee so that Clinton can get easily into office. The darling media have been playing softball with McCain and Huckabee continuously so that the barrage will be unleashed after they get the nomination. It's hard to do it with Romney. You take out the abortion and gay statements which leaves you with what?
Abortion and gay rights rates very low on the conservative issues of today. You seem to think it really rings with top conservative issues.
The top 10 issues.
1. Illegal immigration -- 86%
2. War on terrorism -- 80%
3. Federal spending – 65%
4. Supreme Court and other judicial appointments -- 64%
5. Flat tax/tax cuts -- 61%
6. Size of government -- 61%
7. Iraq -- 55%
8. Social Security -- 45%
9. Entitlement programs -- 38%
10. Abortion -- 36%
McCain easily fails the first three, #5, #6, #8, and #9. Romney only has issues with abortion.

So what he says doesn't matter? That's EXACTLY MY POINT! He'll say anything to get elected...anything. Illegal immigration 86%...isn't that the same percentage of Romney's gardners that are illegal? Will he bring them to the Whitehouse too?
