Well, if I learned anything tonight, I'm no longer a GOP partisan. Clearly it's no longer a party I can consistently support as I have for twenty-years. I may vote for GOP candidates. Romney can still win this thing, though it won't be easy. But, as it stands, effectively there may be no conservative party in American politics today. Too much of the establishment is backing McCain to say that.

The leading candidates? Rudy, Huckabee, McCain? The Republicans barely managed to put up a candidate I could support with Romney. But he is head and shoulders above the rest.

If a party nominates people you can't support. It just isn't yours anymore. Good thing I always retained my Ind. status. Turns out I may need it more than I thought.

I still don't understand why some hard core conservatives support Romney so much. Put that McCain spotlight on Romney's record.

Because McCain is not a conservative and he has over and over stabbed conservatives in the back. He refuses to work with conservative issues especially being open border John McCain. He is not a Republican at all because he does not endorse the party's idea. He runs as a Republican only because he has a bigger chance of winning under that party than the Democrats. If the Senate had been under Republican control from 2001-2002, John McCain would have defected from the party if that senator from VT had not.

McCain getting a 65 ACU rating is extremely poor RM. DeMint is the party's #1 conservative right now and McCain is 10 places away from last place of the ACU rating in terms of senators.

There are more conservative Republican Governors, Republican Representatives, Republican Senators with a better ACU rating than of McCain than those less.

A. Because Fred quit. I think he had a chance in the south, but for reasons best known to him, he quit. Therefore, my vote for him would be wasted.

B. Because Rudy is pro-choice, yada-yada. It don't matter much anymore since he will quit tomorrow or the next day.

C. Because Ron Paul makes people think about things like the "Constitution", and perhaps some other more uncomfortable words and ideas that could be toned down a tad or fine-tuned to soften up the skeptics.

D. Because Huckabee plays the Dem line of class envy/class war, big gov't nanny statism, and tries to play identity politics but flops miserably, since that is also a Dem line.

E. McCain, I detest for reasons delineated upthread.

So... that leaves me with Romney, who is palatable. Paul is looking less bad to me as well, since I suspect that if he did get elected, he'd be corrected by the Congress.

McCain ended up voting for Alito but he stated he didn't support Alito because he wore his conservativism on his sleeve. The GOP is in the process of committing suicide-aided and abetted by the MSM, who will support McCain until he gets the nomination.

The GOP ran an old war hero against an articulate younger candidate, a draft dodger yet, in 1992 and again 1996 and got slaughtered each time.

The MSM's most cherished dream is coming true. Once McCain gets the nomination they will remind the public on a daily basis just how old and angry he is. If the Dems are smart they will nominate Obama. The conservative base won't show up for McCain unless Hillary is the Dem nominee. Why should they? He's not a conservative, except on Iraq and spending.

He claims to be strong on the war on terror but believes in closing Gitmo and open borders. At some point the idiots who run al Qaeda will get that all they need to do is learn Spanish and walk across the southern border of the U.S. and America will be their oyster.

The United States has waterboarded exactly 3 highest level al Qaeda leaders. Thanks to the Dems, the MSM - and John McCain - the U.S. has a world wide reputation as a country that tortures people-for the fun of it. You'd better hope Hillary is the Dem nominee.
