Is Tod Bowman For Real?
Update: He did a one month internship in DC with Harkin.
h/t Glenn -- Hmm You'd think this guy would have time to explain the Tancredo ad to his son. Maybe less time at DU, instead?
When Iowa Democrat Tod Bowman got home Thursday night, he got an earful from his wife about what their fifth-grader had just done.
Earlier that day, their son, Beau Bowman, asked Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., what he would do as president if U.S. troops were not yet back from Iraq when illegal immigrants "start to take action and start bombing buildings and stuff."
When Beau Bowman's mom said how "embarrassed" she was, Tod Bowman's first reaction was that their 11-year-old had simply mangled his words.
But in an interview with ABC News on Friday, Bowman said that he now thinks it's more than likely that his son's question was prompted by immigration ads which have been bombarding Iowa in advance of the state's Jan. 3 caucuses.
According to Carl Cameron on October 30, Bowman's an active guy when it comes to politics:
Tod Bowman
by Carl Cameron
This is the same IA teacher who spoke prior to an Obama Social Security event last week. Russert asks why Clinton dodged Bowman’s Social Security question after an event - she responds that she won’t advocate a specific fix until she knows the fiscal information and that the concern that Social Security is on the brink of collapse is a Republican talking point.Last week Obama said that Clinton ducked Bowman’s question.
Active at Democratic Underground, too.
Hillary had to send him a letter.
The other problem: That's the same idea Clinton, in a private exchange at a rally overheard by an AP reporter, told Iowa teacher Tod Bowman she actually would support. So today, Bowman has sent Hillary a letter, which the Obama camp is releasing. (Full text after the jump)
He introduced Obama at this event after the Hillary incident.
Obama's campaign arranged for him to be introduced at the event by Tod Bowman, an undecided caucus-goer and a teacher from Maquoketa, Iowa, who tried to pin down Clinton during a debate in Iowa earlier this month on whether the government should tax workers' earnings above the present cap of $97,500 to help pay for Social Security benefits.

Okay, their son, 5th grade, gets up and asks a question in a room full of hundreds of people of a very powerful man, and they get embarassed for him. They don't defend their boy? These Democrat activists are so intent on sucking up to Obama, that they'll toss their 5th grade son overboard? Number 1047 on why I am not a Democrat.
Obama and the Democrats better come up with a good answer to the boy's question on open borders being open to meat-packing illegal immigrants are also open to Hezballah terrorists. So, rather than be embarassed for their son, who spoke what is on many people's minds and his, they ought to defend him from their wacked out Democrat friends.

The kid sounds like the only one in the family with brains.
Is intelligence a recessive gene?

But is he smarter than a fifth grader? He never answered the question correctly. What has having our troops back from Iraq got to do with whether we can prevent terrorists, who have entered the country as illegals, from blowing things up? Does Obama understand the "posse comitas" principle? And is he so ignorant of our un-secured borders and their porosity that it is unconceivable to him that a terrorist or more could already be here waiting to initiate action at some mall in Des Moines? The kid had a great but confused question and as a responsible adult, much less someone running for POTUS, he should have knelt down and explain reality and potential to the boy.

How delicious that the kid of a democrat asks the one question of a POTUS candidate we ALL want answered: "How are you gonna stop those folks who want to kill us?" It's really the only question that matters, isn't it?
And how amazing that this kid was able to filter out all the noise of the leftist media, and it's bizarre and evil alliance with the Islamic fascists, to see the genuine and pressing issue: our border is insecure, and many of those coming in illegally want to kill us.
Anti-immigration ads my foot! This kid gets it, and it scares the hell out of his parents. Sadly, they'll put him through his re-education paces and he'll forget that he was ever scared of anyone but GWB. But somewhere, in the back of his mind, he'll know something just doesn't feel right. It's called logic, son. And reason. And it only hurts at first, but then it's real liberating.

If she doesn't know the fiscal information (which of course she should), then how does she know the Republicans aren't correct?

Focus on the bright side, I say. At least ABC News didn't call him "Iowa undecided voter Tod Bowman..."

5Th Grade was about the time that I started to see through the sugar coated facade and recognize the cold hard reality of the world. Seems like this kid connected some dots in his own mind and drew a conclusion that could be reasonably made by someone with a 5th grade intellect. He is just too young to realize he is not supposed to mention the elephant in the room.

Maybe the kid's starting to read Heinlein already?
"Starship Troopers" and "Red Planet" are great introductions to the political realities behind the principal of freedom.

So..... what was Obama's answer to the kid?

I was there when Beau Bowman asked this question and Mr. Bowman happens to be my government teacher. I just sort of wanted to make things clear.. it states that Mr. Bowman did not defend his son? He wasn't even there when his son asked the question. His wife wasn't embarassed for him nor was Mr. Bowman. He was proud that his son, a 5th grader, had the guts to stand up and ask possibly the future president of the US a question. He was never embarassed for him. Mr. Bowman is a great teacher and i'm sure he is a great father too and he wasn't even aware that his son was going to ask a question in the first place. And give the kid a break, atleast he had the courage to stand up in front of hundreds of people and ask a question to a presidential candidate. The Tancredo ad wasn't entirely why Beau asked the question anyways, he just didn't understand the difference between immigrants and terrorists.
