If Hillary represents Clinton II, I guess Huckabee is Clinton III. And according to Fox TV, Huckabee is saying he doesn't remember if he wrote those words himself. He's "hoping" that she actually read the article and isn't reacting to the headlines.
“I have nothing but respect and admiration for Sec. Rice. I think she is probably one of the brightest and most capable people that we have had in the U.S. government in a long time.”
He said her comments did not appear to reflect what he had written in his Foreign Affairs article. “I would need to know did she actually read the article or is she reacting as others have to the headlines and to the synopsis that has been printed. And until then I wouldn’t know exactly how to respond.”
He said his comment in the article “was not an attack on president Bush.”
“The Bush administration’s arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad,” the former Arkansas governor writes. He called for a change in “tone and attitude,” and said that President Bush “has never adequately explained the theology and ideology behind Islamic terrorism” to the American people.
Mr. Huckabee was especially critical of America’s ties to suppressive foreign regimes, especially Pakistan.“As the Bush administration scrambled to cope with Musharraf’s state of emergency last November, it became clear that we had no Pakistan policy, only a Musharraf policy,” he wrote, adding that developments there over the past month put “into sharp relief what a waste, what a setback the United States’ Pakistan policy has been over the past few years.”
