Update: CBS has video from the fire house which doesn't look nearly as bad as the written piece.
If the report is accurate, it's time to start asking yourselves whether or not you want a Huckabee nomination and pick a side. This dog won't hunt. And I've absolutely no idea why the SOB saddled up, if he didn't really want to ride.
Fred Thompson: Lazy as charged
WAVERLY, Iowa — When is retail politics not retail politics? When candidates refuse to get off their big buses and go do it.
Fred Thompson rolled into this small town on the Cedar River in north-central Iowa on a giant brown bus Tuesday. He also had a van, an entourage of guys with earpieces and a press aide.
It literally is a painful article to read. But read it and make your mind up for yourself. The guy was actually starting to generate some buzz, maybe enough to finish third. And this is what we get? Read it all.

What a sorry sack of shit ole Fred is. He is a disgrace to the process, regardless of party.

The only sacks of shit I see here are the two commenters above me. Hey guys, if you think we need to saddle up another horse, how bout we start with your moms?

"--- What a sorry sack of sh*t ole Fred is. He is a disgrace to the process, regardless of party. ---"
Watch your tongue, boy.
Fred is above the "process", and doesn't need to put on hats and do dog and pony tricks. His message speaks for itself.
That hack Roger Simon is just being fussy because Fred wouldn't talk to him.

Excuse me. The video "...doesn't look nearly as bad as the written piece"? Try "it looks nothing at all like the written piece".
According to the article, Thompson "looked at it with a sour expression on his face" and "...just stood there holding it and staring at it." I suppose Mr. Simon wasn't close enough to see the smile on Thompson's face that the videocamera clearly shows. Nor must he have been close enough to hear Thompson and a whole bunch of other people in the fire hall laughing about his "silly hat" line (including the firefighters behind him).
I wonder if Simon was actually paying any attention to what happened right in front of him.

It looks like Roger Simon just can't stop writing hit pieces on Fred. I have yet to encounter a single article by him that treats Fred in a fair and objective manner. Take a look at the video and you'll understand how biased against Fred the author of that article is.

Admittedly, I'm a certified FredHead. Fred is a serious candidate, not a panderer. This is actually why I like his candidacy. He probably should have put the hat on, since there was a camera there. But in the big scheme of things, the article does not represent the facts that the camera shows. I'm still game for Fred; this sounds like a ticked off reporter.

Simon's report is so slanted it's disgusting. Look at the video.
"I have a silly hat rule...WHICH I AM ABOUT TO VIOLATE." Simon fails to mention the last part of that line.
But then he apparently can't figure out how to put it on (all those safety harness thingies inside I'd guess)so he places it on Jeri's head like a crown.

The guy was actually starting to generate some buzz, maybe enough to finish third.
Which explains why the media has to do a hit job on him. Dan, you feel for it.

Firemen hats look great on a fireman, the rest of us...not so much. would make him look like a poser. Remember what they did to Bush over the flight suit? And he WAS a fighter pilot. Fred did the best he could in a tricky situation. You can tell he doesn't want to be disrespectful, but if he had put it on, the story today would be a guy in a suit wearing that hat...not pretty.
