Dole Blasts Huckabee - Romney Up In Iowa?

I'm not sure what to make of Bob Novak's latest report, at least as far as a privately commissioned poll goes. It has Romney up over Huckabee and Fred Thompson at 1%. The claimed sample size is fifteen thousand, which is huge. Given that the actual poll may not be released, I'd take this with an extra grain of salt.

A private corporate interest commissioned a phone bank survey of 15,000 Iowans who say they will attend Republican presidential caucuses Jan. 3. It showed Romney with 30 percent and Huckabee at 26 percent. Sen. John McCain was third with 12 percent and Rudy Giuliani fourth at 9 percent. Fred Thompson had only 1 percent, with slightly fewer votes than Rep. Ron Paul (also at 1 percent).

At the same time, Novak reports that former Senator Bob Dole has come out of retirement to publically bash Huckabee for his statements on Bush.

"Why have you joined the 'Bush bashers'?" Dole asked in a letter to Huckabee that he made public. Dole, until now neutral in the 2008 contest, called Huckabee's critique of Bush policy in Foreign Affairs magazine a "perfect example of 20-20 hindsight."

Huckabee is a disaster. Most five-year-olds know more about foreign policy than he does. People in Iowa need to wake up real fast.

My main problem with Huckabee is something else. He is always talking about being a uniter, getting everybody to work together, ending the polarization. It sounds nice - you probably like that part. I think it is stupid and dangerous.

Democracy means disagreement and partisanship. If some positions are right, then others have to be wrong and you have to fight them. That is how it has always been. When I look at the rabid left and their establishment enablers I want us to be polarized. Otherwise, why have more than one party?

No candidate should promise to end the polarization of the country. It is not honest. The only man who can really bring this country together would have to be a stalinist. I´ll pass.

In fact I will vote for the guy most likely to bring a gun to a knifefight. And that means Rudy or Fred (but mostly Rudy).
