This just really ticks me off.
Lunch with Governor Gilmore [Ramesh Ponnuru]
Jim Gilmore is running for the Senate. I met him once, and didn't get a very good impression.
The linked article trashes Gilmore for not be mindful enough that he was meeting with people from ... NRO.
During his brief run for the presidency earlier this year, he had lunch with a few reporters from National Review. He showed up 20 minutes late, with no apology. He was testy and abrasive throughout. He kept saying that he was an expert on terrorism, because he had run a commission on it before, during, and after September 11.
Nothing like knee-capping a Republican that's going to have enough problems as it is. However, according to a post with some actual depth at what appears to be a reputable blog by a Virginia libertarian, when it comes to Va politics, some may be underestimating Gilmore.
This will be an interesting race to watch, and may turn out to be much more competitive than current public opinion polls indicate it to be.
Unfortunately, the only thing you'd think was important based upon Ponnuru's report is the staff at NRO.

Amazing, either the GOP runs toe-tappers or a-holes like this troop-supporter. Best wishes for '08, heroes!

Jumping shark, NRO is. Neutered, they are.

My, Bob... hate the troops much? Or America in general?

NR has had a long running beef with Gilmore and I'm not sure what it goes back to. He could walk on water and they'd write that he couldn't swim.
The part that gets me is that these are supposedly thinkers, but they all write variations on the same NRO anti-Gilmore theme.
