Well, nevermind:
In an exhaustive article on the Lexington Clipper-Herald Web site, Kelsey Peterson, 25, is depicted a woman following her father's footsteps.
Unless, of course, Dad inspired the 25 year-old to take off for Mexico with a 13 year-old student who was living in a home for "out of control" kids. She was his Baby Gurl. How special is that?
One report states she has a very young child of her own living with relatives. Is it the water, the industry, or the culture today?
Around Lexington, a meatpacking town of 11,500 that is majority Hispanic, people expressed shock that a popular teacher would go on the run with a student almost half her age.

Ahhh, love knows no age. This is simply a "life style choice".

Yeah, seriously, please put down the kleenex and step away from the monitor. I know talking about teacher-student pedophilia gets all the conservatives hot and bothered - which explains why every single instance of it gets plastered on the news for about a week - but could you please keep your kiddy-porn fantasies where they belong? I know Foley left the key to his office under the mat. Just remember to clean up when you're done.

You don't understand. This is the Great Plains. We don't even do a bank scandal without a child sex abuse angle.

Maybe my memory is slipping, I'm 54 years old and my Senior Year I was a jock, a good looking one too, and you NEVER heard of this kind of crap...
My kids are all out of school now, some with kids of their own and we have talked about this honestly as well, and THEY never heard of it in THEIR schools...
I personally find it appalling, the number of incidents happening now between kids and teachers...
Has it always been like that?? Am I naive?? Or was there a thread of decency in the schools I and my children went to??

TF, I'm with you Fred. Back in our day you rarely, if ever heard of crap like this. Yeah, it happened but it's like a pervert badge of honor these days. I think we can answer your question by just recounting the changes we've seen since, say 1960, in society. My first post was meant as sarcastic prophecy.....one day in the future our "progressive" friends will be saying it is ok..

in defense of progressives like myself, no it is not okay. I am an aunt of several nieces and nephews. Any teacher try that crap with my kids will end up in jail (police) and broke (lawyers). I'd say "kick their ass" - which could happen - but this would be much much more painful

OK Rachel, I'll amend my statement to "some progressives", even add some "conservatives" just to make it equal. There are people who think this crap is just fine is the point. Why some Islamic countries just raised the marriage age to 13....from 9

Here's what really bugs me about the whole thing. If a 25-year old man was to have an affair with a 13-year old girl, what do you think would happen to him? Right you are folks, under the jail house, which is justified, but the women doing the same thing receive nothing but a slap on the hand. This is not justice. Punish these women the same as you punish the men.

TexasFred, if you're interested in how prevalent this sort of thing is, check out:

Just in: the kid was the child of an illegal.
Back in Mexico now, with relatives.
Minor victory?
------------------
On another note, we're creating a very bizarrely-arranged sexuality in this country.
Traditionally, we've held that sex between "adult" and "minor" is forbidden because it is a QED power mismatch: the adult "takes advantage" of the minor.
...maybe in some '50s flashback sequence, perhaps, but a great many "children" are highly sexualized well before their age of majority, and I'm a little skeptical that the same "advantage" still exists.
And a law that does not do what it says it's doing is a law that needs to go away. It either inaccurately reflects the realities of the society it purports to serve, or it is simply irrelevant. In either event, it's obsolete.
Traditionally, as well, unless the boy was an actual *child*, that is, sexually immature, a woman almost never suffered any consequences of taking the "younger lover". Why? because laws against "under aged sexual contact" were built around the patriarchal notion of "protecting" the virtue of the girl; boys don't have "virtue" ... they have "needs".
Currently, the modern patriarchals [a.k.a. feminists] believe that only girls can be psychologically scarred by young/old encounters -- i.e., the boy suffers no long-term effects whereas the girls does. And just going on anecdotia, I think I'd-a been better off and better able to deal with women at a younger age had Linda Geer or Mrs McCarty fulfilled my fantasies the way I dreamed of.
Simply put: I find it implausible that "protecting" young squires like this kid from the sinister wiles of that 25 y.o. wench actually protects him from anything.
Hanging onto said laws because having the honesty to scrap it might make us look bad in the mirror is a ridiculous reason to keep deluding ourselves. If we truly want the society reflected in the de facto obsolete laws, then we need to start acting like it.
...which means that if "minors" are to be sexually protected, then they cannot be allowed to have sex, period, regardless of the age of partner; and if both boys and girls are to be given the same treatment under the law [5th and 14th Amendments ... who knew?] then two 15 y.o. kids getting caught in the backseat mean they're both arrested for statutory rape.
No "abortion on demand" for minor girls who can't legally have sex in the first place. Parental permission ... what a concept.
