Check out these links - they do connect. It doesn't point directly to Huckabee but it does suggest who may be a player in the latest Iowa smear.
A dirty trick against Romney - and Rudy btw, involving a story you might have heard about:
If Rudy becomes president, is he planning on putting people like Catholic priest Msgr. Alan Placa in his Cabinet? I hope not! Remember Fr. Placa when you go to the caucuses, and make sure your friends know, too!
Giuliani Adviser is an Accused Pedophile Priest?
And at the very same time, a Republican political operative with a dubious past, Deal Hudson, decides to stoke the issue on a blog: see here and also here.
Since 2002, Msgr. Alan Placa has worked for Rudy Giuliani as a consultant at Giuliani Partners. In 2003 a grand jury report of Suffolk County, NY, accused Placa of sexually abusing multiple victims.
This on Deal Hudson.
Editor's note: Deal Hudson announced Aug. 18 that he would be giving up his position with the Republican National Committee in reaction to questions posed by "a liberal Catholic publication." In recent days, NCR has tried repeatedly to meet with Hudson to get his response to questions about his departure from Fordham University in 1994 following allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a freshman female student. The university said Hudson "surrendered" his tenure. He also paid a settlement of $30,000 to terminate a lawsuit that the student brought against him on the basis of these allegations.
And who does he appear to support?
Deal Hudson
The news that Huckabee was challenging Romney's lead in Iowa does not come as a surprise. Those who have worked on the ground in Iowa for the past six months have told me that much of Romney's support, especially among Evangelicals, is soft.
Once Huckabee started to gain momentum, it was inevitable that the race would tighten.
The biggest factors in his ascent are the endorsement of Don Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, and big time exposure on cable news shows. This exposure can convince the fence-sitters that Huckabee could be a winner, could overcome the well-financed Romney machine in Iowa.
