Flagwavers = morons.

That line... it's called arrogance. It comes across as a juvenile attempt to be cool with the goth kids, though.

Chris = case in point

Seriously - jingoism is utter stupidity. It's as idiotic as those magnet stickers.

Yeah, chris, to you it is, but most people in the land aren't like you, and frankly, don't want to be like you. And most people don't consider patriotism to to "jingoism", nor do they think their love of their country qualifies as such, either. I have a suggestion for you, chris/Boob, why don't you hook up with Quebec, and secede from No. America.

Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!
Obama isn't wearing a button!!! This just absolutely proves he's with the terrorists!

Seriously, it's a freak'n lapel pin. What's next? Are you going to crucify him if he doesn't stick to the strictly red, white, and blue campaign color theme?

Get ahold of yourselves. Change your diapers. Move on with life. You weren't going to vote for him if he tatoo'd a mosaic of the twin towers on his forehead and kept a thousand different versions of "God Bless America" on his iPod, so I can't even begin to imagine why you think this would in any way be relevant.

This is a joke, right? Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. [.; period; as in full stop.]

It's about as relevant as you, IslamoBoob. How is that revolution going, butthead, you shedding any of that "not liberal blood" in the streets yet? I might have to go to the nutroot land to find out about that, though. Nah, can't stand the smell of rotteness prevalent at nutroot "relevant" sites like Huffpo and Kos.

Hmmm, I saw one of those 'inspirational' flag pins somewhere recently...

Oh, now I remember

God BLESS this righteous patriot and all who support him.

Surge on!!

"Obama says he doesn't like how the pin has come to represent patriotism in America"

I thought flag waving has always represented patriotism, it's nothing new. O'Bamba may not be stupid, but he's always acted stupid.

"There's such a fine line between stupid and clever." - Derek St. Hubbins

Sure, it's just a lapel pin, folks.

But I'm less likely to account someone like Obama as an seditious, disloyal Islamist plant, or worse, a communist, if they do wear it.

"But I'm less likely to account someone like Obama as an seditious, disloyal Islamist plant, or worse, a communist, if they do wear it."

Wow - what a batshit crazy Jesus freak!

Gee, Seek, are you so easily fooled that all it takes to convince you someone is a good, god fearing Christian is a lapel pin?

That was I think Obama's point, the pin is an empty gesture, it's so de rigour now that it means nothing but NOT wearing it is now a sign of lack of patriotism....

Glad to see the wingers again don't disappoint, making their choice for president based on tiny lapel pins. NO wonder the country is in the toilet.

"--- Wow - what a batshit crazy Jesus freak! ---"

Thanks for the ad-hominem reply, "Bob".

As for the loyalty thing, "Bob", it's like this:

Wearing the flag lapel pin is a subtle act of identifying yourself as an American. Wearing it is no guarantee that you ain't a traitorous low down snake in the grass... but REFUSING to wear it will make you stand out.

Identifying yourself as an American seems to be something you are plenty embarrassed about. I bet you are one of those sad, sorry individuals who makes a point out of informing everyone you meet overseas that you are actually a Canadian with a Yank passport.

Which lapel pin do you wear -- the CPUSA's hammer and sickle, or perhaps you like L'il Kim Il Jong enough to wear the DPRK pin? Or perhaps you have a couple of hooded white bedsheets
like your hero Sen. Robert "the Exalted Cyclops" Byrd does?

Or perhaps you got a Che T-shirt or three buried in that pile of laundry you _really_ need to get around to doing?

Where (or "wear", if you'll pardon the pun) do YOUR loyalties lie, "Bob"?

If you hate being an American so much, why don't you do us all a favor and move to Canada, or perhaps join your Islamist brothers in the mosques of London. I'm sure that they will welcome you with open arms, before packing you off to the nearest madrassa.

Something tells me that you don't have much courage to do that, as it would involve coming out from behind the safety of your keyboard, much less your gated community.

"--- Gee, Seek, are you so easily fooled that all it takes to convince you someone is a good, god fearing Christian is a lapel pin? ---"

Actually, NW, I'm not.

In fact, even though Mrs. Clinton wears a flag pin, I'm convinced that she is a godless socialist who plans to leave America a corpse in her wake as much as her husband left several corpses in the wake of his rise to power.

The same with "Barry 'O'", as much as a good many others on the sinking raft of loosers for the Democratic presidential nomination, who will fall before the Hsunami of campaign funds Mrs. Clinton has at her disposal.

Same goes for a number of Republican potential nominees as well. Rudi G. is about as palatable as in a leather dress as Mrs. Clinton.

But those who refuse to even make this simple little gesture of wearing the pin, mark themselves as not even willing to identify themselves as American (and yes, I know that this pin thing is a post 9-11 fad, but so what?)

If candidates are afraid to identify themselves as loving their country (and hopefully, the True God and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as well), then they are not someone who deserves to be even considered for nomination to becoming the Leader of the Free World.

Hey Seek, my flag pin is bigger than your flag pin. Sadly though, it was made in China.

And I especially like how you get in an attack on socialism and then declare yourself a love of Jesus. I have a hard time seeing Jesus as a member of today's Republican Party. I can see him as a socialist, you know, handing out free food to the poor, giving the poor shelter, and chasing the money changers out of the temple.

"Glad to see the wingers again don't disappoint, making their choice for president based on tiny lapel pins. NO wonder the country is in the toilet."

Why nowinker, no "winger" would vote for Obama anyway. You know that much for God's sake. But do tell us, who is your choice for Pres, and why?

I'm not religious, but I know BS about Jesus when I see it:

"I have a hard time seeing Jesus as a member of today's Republican Party. I can see him as a socialist, you know, handing out free food to the poor, giving the poor shelter, and chasing the money changers out of the temple."

Jesus, as far as I know, didn't get the loaves and fishes from the government and never called for the government to provide free housing. Seems to me he called for PEOPLE to be voluntarily charitable. This is the opposite of socialism wherein people are forced to pay for charitable works. As far as money changers in the temple, that is exactly what your remarks represent.

nowinkie writes, "NO wonder the country is in the toilet." It is? Where do you live notevenawinkie? You may need to change your local government. This country is in very good shape. Exactly what are the problems you see?

Yeah Fred, I'm sure if you explained to him how terrible it is when government helps poor folks he'd see the light, so to speak. Much better to let 'em starve then subject them to the tyranny of free food or health care.

"Much better to let 'em starve then subject them to the tyranny of free food or health care."

Actually His position would be, as our should, to teach the poor to take care of themselves rather than keeping them down to boost our own egos/power base. Which pretty much has nothing to do with why Obama only wants to wear a flag pin when he agrees with HIS country. Really no different from those who would call our soldiers who are against the war non-patriotic. Obama's decision is akin to burning a flag, merely a statement of dissent, protected by the first amendment. Does he hate the country as so many here appear to do? I frankly doubt it. It is just another means of making a moot point. If I took down the flag everytime I disagreed with who was in the whitehouse, or everytime I disagreed with our "representatives" I just as well remove it permanently. Flags and symbols are not proof of patriotism just as putting a fish on your car is no proof of being a Christian. Being proud of what is good and willing to fight to fix the bad is patriotism and it seems that Obama doesn't think there is enough good to show that kind of pride. Tis sad, but it's his right.

Petty much unmitigated BS. Guess what, not everyone can take care of themselves. And many of those that can, need a little help to get started. I'm sure Dick Cheney pins a flag decal on every morning, but when they asked him to actually serve under the flag he had "other priorities".

Written by a Viet Nam vet:

While digesting Reader's Digest
In the back of a dirty book store,
A plastic flag, with gum on the back,
Fell out on the floor.
Well, I picked it up and I ran outside
Slapped it on my window shield,
And if I could see old Betsy Ross
I'd tell her how good I feel.

Chorus:
But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
They're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.

Well, I went to the bank this morning
And the cashier he said to me,
"If you join the Christmas club
We'll give you ten of them flags for free."
Well, I didn't mess around a bit
I took him up on what he said.
And I stuck them stickers all over my car
And one on my wife's forehead.

Repeat Chorus:

Well, I got my window shield so filled
With flags I couldn't see.
So, I ran the car upside a curb
And right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor down
I was already dead.
And I'll never understand why the man
Standing in the Pearly Gates said...

"But your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more.
We're already overcrowded
From your dirty little war.
Now Jesus don't like killin'
No matter what the reason's for,
And your flag decal won't get you
Into Heaven any more."

"Guess what, not everyone can take care of themselves."
Geeze, really?? Well if we're going to nit pick. I guess we'd agree that those should be taken care of.
"And many of those that can, need a little help to get started." I dunno, not being as smart as you but I would assume that would be covered by "teaching them"
"I'm sure Dick Cheney pins a flag decal on every morning, but when they asked him to actually serve under the flag he had "other priorities"."
Did it bother you as much that Bill Clinton felt the same way?
Go argue with the guy in the mirror

By the way WPE, ya genius. You said the SAME thing I did with different words. Well, you and the guy you had to steal a thought from.

Wow...that's so moving! I bet chris/Boob dances with his sugar-britches boyfriend when he hears that song. You might be chris/Boobs sugar-britches boyfriend for all I know. You do seem to be his type. Anyway, thank you for your service to your fellow man. I'm sure you're out there every day taking care of the sick, feeding the hungry, and providing comfort to the down and out. You're a true hero.

No CB, people like that want money taken from you to pay someone else to get thier hands dirty.

My point exactly, Willie. They want to take credit for doing good deeds, yet they are highly unlikely to actually do anything concrete to help the poor. Pathetic, really. If you are interested, I could give you dozens of examples, but it is not neccessary, since you are familiar with these people.

"Written by a Viet Nam vet:" Really? How untouching and unsurprising. Many, many fine young men composed our military forces in Vietnam. Unfortunately, a few were like Kerry, who tried to smear them all as war criminals. Are you sure it wasn't a phony soldier who wrote this, a soon to be Poet Laureate of the USA? But tell us, please, worst puss bag in history, where does this jewel come from and who wrote it?

John Prine.

John Kerry won multiple medals in Viet Nam while our current leaders were doing their damndest to avoid anything having to do with risking their necks in battle. He didn't have "other priorities". He acutally volunteered for duty.

And judging a man's patriotism by the jewelry he wears is a joke.

And Fox News ran a picture of Obama with a circle around his lapel and the capion "Space Availabe". Fair and Balanced.

OH MY GOD, call the Patriot Police, he doesn't have a flag decal on.

Political Correctness gone insane.

"John Kerry won multiple medals in Viet Nam while our current leaders were doing their damndest to avoid anything having to do with risking their necks in battle."

Kerry won one purple heart because he scratched himself with a paper clip. He was sent home early. He then appeared before Congress and declared he himself and all other U.S. military in Vietnam were war criminals. As for the rest of your sentence, you must be talking about Harry Reid. He was of draft age when we had a draft but was not drafted. There is a story there somewhere.
