Update: Hmm Has Drudge spiked the story?
Did he get played? I doubt it, but wouldn't be surprised if there were legal issues involved in what he posted. Nomatter what, I see dead people lawyers entering the mix.
UPDATE: An editor there e-mails: "Go to the story and click on the link that he claims is to Beauchamp’s confession. It’s not there. The only Beauchamp document is one were he acknowledged receiving some other memo. Nothing even close to a confession there." At the moment I can't access any of the documents that are flagged in that "Developing" story....
Twisted funny in a sort of Pythonesque manner - who's not to link? The New Republic ... same as the old New Republic as in Stephen Glass infamy. Franklin, your career called and it's over. Michelle has text excerpts if the Drudge pdf's aren't loading.
Blog traffic jam at Memeorandum.
TNR scrubs their site, some playing CYA via Glenn.
To coin a phrase I've seen used by Allah: Drudge, you magnificent bastard.
Though he is still a bastard when it comes to Right-side blogs.
Click, link, read - take it all in. Exploiting the wife and their "special" relationship with Beauchamp? Pathetic. New Media destroys the New Republic's cred, what cred it had left, anyway.
Goodbye Foer, you gotta go, me-oh-my-oh,
Son of a gun, had great fun til Beauchamp crumpled, oh Blue Bayou.
or sumptin like that. heh!

As of about an hour ago, the direct link ( http://www.drudgereport.com/flash8.htm ) still worked, and I downloaded the pdf's.

They gotta tough this one out. Too heavily invested in the lie to back out now.

Milbloggers who have put eyes on the original docs say they are the real deal.
Foer of TNR had an interview with the Observer today and only complained about the docs coming out. He never said they were bogus in any way and if he had thought that, he would be screaming it from a mountain top.
Time will tell how this plays out.
