Sad to see any woman get victimized...

But as for that other knucklehead's assertion that it was a "wingnut plot"... I'd say that it was more likley that space aliens took her away for an exam before saying it was a right-winger attack.

For the simple reason that we more conservative NY'ers generally see NYC as a place too to avoid. The stench of cat-poo coming from apartments of cranky vegetarian lesbians with a superabundance of felines, patchouli, and BS from the NY Times read by the millions of liberals down there is more than enough to keep us away.

I'm sure this will get spun six different ways before we find out it was problem some hoodlum looking for an easy mark, or worse, looking for a woman to work his foul way with.

If we are lucky, the great anti-Malkin mouthpiece, Jerry Rivers, might even get to spin/cough up a moist loogey of an attempt at "journalism" on her behalf.

Zoinkies, Velma.... forgot to switch to my alter ego!

"For the simple reason that we more conservative NY'ers generally see NYC as a place too to avoid. Thanks for staying home, hick! Have fun at the mall!

It's strange that I have not been able to find this in any NY newspaper.

It is a shame to see anyone hurt by a vicious or crazed criminal. But gee, one would think someone out to get a liberal talker would go after one of the ladies on The View or after Bill Maher or really any television talker of note. But to accuse without one bit of evidence someone of going after a minor radio talker, no offense to this lady intended, over politics seems quite a stretch.

But WorstCommenterEver should note that Mr. Elliot is raising a question, just as commenters raised questions about the Frosts. I hope Mr. Ever won't act like himself and say that Elliot is accusing conservatives of this crime. I'm sure that was the last thing on his mind.

But this little item far down in the link is rather...odd:

"Also, according to a blogger on Democratic Underground, Thom Hartmann said on his Friday show that his auto repairman, after replacing his windshield, pointed out to him that he had three bullet holes in his car."

OOPS! this just in direct from the AAR website:

October 16-NEW YORK-On Sunday evening, October 14, Air America host Randi Rhodes experienced an unfortunate incident hindering her from hosting her show. The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded. Ms. Rhodes looks forward to being back on the air on Thursday.

So AAR says no hate crime. In fact the progspeak is so stilted that one must wonder if any mugging happened at all. Maybe the heel on her highheels broke and she fell and hurt her pride.

Needless to say, Think Progress shows itself to neither think nor represent anything similar to progress. Now "Progressive" might fit in a more accurate name, however. All VRWC all the time with that bunch, even to the point of making shit up.

I wish for her speedy recovery.

"--- Thanks for staying home, hick! Have fun at the mall! ---"

Thanks for the fine wishes yourself there, "chris"!

But I won't be just going to the mall. I gotta get down to the gun store to pick up some more ammo - duck season opened yesterday, and I want to have a few decent plump ducks to roast for the holidays. And deer season's right around the corner, too. Gotta make sure the trusty deer rifle is sighted in properly for the missus... it'll be her first deer season. :)

Say, seek, I'm still looking for a good 308 Win. Any ideas?

"generally see NYC as a place too to avoid"

I always detour through Harrisburg when driving north or south. You'd have to put a gun to my head to get me to travel through NYC. Last time I was there was to give a deposition as an expert witness in one of Microsoft's various lawsuits. I avoid it like the plague.

Wow an 'expert' and a coward. The GOP is full of 'em.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Air America radio host Randi Rhodes is temporarily off the air, but claims she was brutally attacked near her Manhattan apartment are bogus, her lawyer and a police source said today.

Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.

"Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we're winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"

A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime."

Rhodes started with the Air America when it launched in 2004. Her show airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

The network released a statement that said Rhodes "experienced an unfortunate incident."

"The reports of a presumed hate crime are unfounded," the statement read by a receptionist at the network's New York offices said. "Ms. Rhodes is looking forward to being back on the air on Thursday."

Still, the tale lived on in the blogosphere.

"What the %$#$ is WRONG with you people?? Are you that SICK in the head that just because you don't agree with someone's political views you believe that they deserve to be mugged? Are you on the right that DEMENTED??," a blogger called neddlenosehanty posted on watchingthewatchers.org.

Another blogger shot back, "I very seriously doubt if this unfortunate woman was mugged by a conservative. To jump to the conclusion that she was mugged by someone on the right is bigotry of another kind. Think not?"

tmoore@nydailynews.com

So it's Bush's fault because of Randi Rhodes repeated calls for his death...

Which makes all the RightWingNuts the haters...

Except she wasn't mugged at all...

"--- Say, seek, I'm still looking for a good 308 Win. ---"

Me too.

"--- Any ideas? ---"

Now that's a hefty round, and a manstopper - erm, a humanoid-sized target displacer - at a decent range. Currently I don't have anything larger than a 30.06 in my collection - so take what I say under advisement...

I've been partial to Remington ever since I bought my first weapon (a model 1100 goose gun I used when a buddy of mine in the USAF turned me on to trap shooting many moons ago), and I've got some of their other products as well. Brand loyalty, I reckon.

Somehow I doubt the missus will have many pleasant things to say to me if I buy a certain Remington model 700 I've been keeping tabs on. Maybe if I'm really nice and give out lots of foot rubs, Santa will be nice to me this Christmas. Or maybe I might happen upon a poor, homeless Remington M700P or SPS at a gun show. Who knows, I might even have to take it home to a nice, dry gun cabinet. Heh. :)

I mean for between high $500s - mid $600s, it seems to be well worth it.

It has a nice 24" barrel, and it handles well enough for my frame (6'0/200#s-ish). Scuttlebutt is that some law enforcement types like this weapon a great deal for its accuracy (well, at least that difference between shooter induced error and machining/manufacturer imperfections) and a recoil that isn't entirely unpleasant.

The one I'm looking at in my local shop is an SPS - the synthetic black stock is calling out to me though. :P

From the reading I've done, it does quite well with readily available 168gn. Federal Match.

http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_700/model_700_SPS_specs.asp has some details on it you may find interesting.

I hear PA. Even driving thru northern NJ is not a pleasant experience, to say nothing of whatever toxic waste is lurking in the swampy brush off to either side of the Garden State Parkway or the NJ Turnpike that area.

Of course now, "chrisstamfordboobs" digs that sort of action almost as much as he likes playing tappy-toes with the hopes of hooking up with Barney frank or even better, a GOP senator.

The latest report is that Ms. Rhodes was not mugged at all, but fell while walking her dog. That's it. No political attack, no mugging.

Heh. Maybe the DOG tripped her up because he was an evil Rightwingnut yipper dittohead dog...

There ya go, Liberals. There's your story.

"Even driving thru northern NJ is not a pleasant experience, to say nothing of whatever toxic waste is lurking in the swampy brush off to either side of the Garden State Parkway or the NJ Turnpike that area."

The rednecks outdo themselves. Lets be thankful for hunting accidents.

This post was on another thread but since it applies here I thought I'd bring it over:

"Word in now that liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes was assaulted while walking her dog Sunday night.

Now we don't have all the facts and should not rush to judgement. But we do know that, if this is right wing brownshirt violence, it would not be the firs time. KPFT was fired upon and a radio host nearly shot recently. There was that Colorado guy some years ago. And, of course, the Klan violence going back many decades.

Posted by: AlphaLiberal | Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 10:30 AM "

But that Dachshund that crossed the street in front of her dog... surely that dachshund was a brownshirted dog, no? I mean after all, Dachshunds are of course, German. And we all know what devilish things those stumpy-legged German wiener dogs are up always to.

TalkRadio.blogspot.com hasn't updated their "news" yet. Meanwhile, they have 1045 comments about Randi.
Lots of people are very worried about her dog.

"Currently I don't have anything larger than a 30.06 in my collection"

Boys, boys the 3006 and 308 use the same 30 cal bullet. The 06 pushes the bullet faster, about 2800 fps vis about 2200. The 308 came along came along because the army wanted a battle rifle that was lighter and full auto capable to replace the M1 garand. Thus we got the 2nd "greatest battle impliment evr devised" the M-14. Which was replaced in the 1960s by the M-16.

The 06 is grat for any north american game unless you want to fire on monday and drive until tuesday to pick up your elk. In otherwords if you want to overkill anything smaller than an elephant you can go for the magnums. To me they are useless.

I guess t purchase of a rifle in 308 (mine is an old remi) is dependant upon the buyers wishes. Want it short, light, bolt or semi-auto?

Look at you guys. You're saps. Poor little left wing whacko extremist claims politically motivated attack and you guys BUY IT?! Does it take a woman to know when another woman is milking it for all it's worth? obviously.

Ace has updated his post on this story (http://ace.mu.nu/archives/243692.php) with a link to the police and Rhodes’ attorney. She was NOT attacked. She tripped while walking her dog and suffered the injuries at the hands of gravity not thugs.

From the Daily News:
"A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain."

Of course the left will still spin this and probably won't retract a damn thing they have already spewed but facts are facts.

"--- Thanks for staying home, hick! Have fun at the mall! ---"

Oh my chrissy, did someone strike a nerve? Don't be so upset. People figure with all the bigoted name calling that you do that you wont mind if they reciprocate. In fairness my last vist to NYC was in the 70s and it was wonderful. Garbage was stacked man high, the smell reminded me of Thailand, there were hookers, pimps and dealers all over times square. Oh and those wonderful strip clubs and porno houses, toy stores. Sure got my windshield cleaned alot.

Alas, I understand that Rudy just ruined all of that wonderful culture and it's a bit tougher to find a crack whore when you want one. Sorry.

In fact the progspeak is so stilted that one must wonder if any mugging happened at all. Maybe the heel on her highheels broke and she fell and hurt her pride.

Quoting myself from above. Looks like I nailed it. She fell! Oh my lord, the cracks in the sidewalk are part of that VRWC.

Hardly any time passed at all and the truth came out. I'm sure her excuse will be 'oh my i woke up on the ground and just ASSUMED i'd been mugged.'

Would that the truth in the case of madonna constantine of the columbia 'noose on the door' fame, would come out as quickly. I suspect it is another case of TawanaBrawleysyndrome.

Yes, the noose story seems to be fading. I've read that Columbia isn't letting the police see some video tapes, claiming "student privacy".

I love it when one of those liberals like Alpha shits on the floor, and then says, "look what the evil conservatives did", but then forgets to wash his poo hands. Those poo hands on the Democrats get them caught every time. Old AlphaLiberal's hands are all crusty by now. What a moron he is.

Something's fishy here. It's time for Malkin and her crack investigative crew to get on this case!

My impression of the 7.62x51mm (.308 commercial) round was that it was intended to be a slightly faster round than 30.06 -- but I reckon I could have transposed the muzzle speeds.

I remember some discussions about it being quite a bit more accurate at range as well, which might explain the later development of the M-21 and other sniper weapons from the M-14.

I don't think Ms. Rhodes said anything to the press or to her co-workers about her incident. It was one of the Air America people who was bandying about bullshit about what happened to Ms. Rhodes and how the VRWC is doubly devilsh.
The one thing i will note is that most the conservative blogs that carried this story did not wail or whine for her death and wished her a speedy recovery.

Sounds like still another example of the Evan Thomas/Nancy Grace school of moonbats squeaking through the night. Remember that old leftist trope: "If the narrative fits our delusions, then it must be true."

It got some Guatemalan fraud named Rigoberta Menchu a Nobel Peace Prize, though that is administered by Norwegians and we all know how stupid Oslo makes people.

Seek, the muzzle energy and muzzle speed on the 30-06 are higher than the .308, although the .308 is a more efficient bullet, as it uses a lot less powder to achieve close to the same speed as the .308 in medium bullets. It is more compact than the '06, therefore making it possible for a soldier to carry more rounds. The cartridge will also cycle in a short action, making a more compact rifle possible. It's strange that the very same argument was used against the .308 by the .223 affectianos in the 1960s.

As for a good .308, my favorite is a Remington Model 600 made from 1965-1969. It is a short, compact rifle that was ahead of its time, and it's the rifle I pick up when I go deer hunting. You can still find them on the used market, although they are getting a bit pricey if you want a good one. I bought one that was a little rough for a very nice price after making sure the barrel was still good, and then spent a couple of hundred dollars getting the rifle refinished. I cold-blued it myself, and it came out looking very nice. I've been offered over three times what I have in it, but I would never sell it, as my number one son has already claimed it for his own.

jj: The modle 600 is a pump, yes? Seems I remember working on one in 243 once. Most of my hunting is in the swamps where 100 yards is a long shot so I normally use a Rem 1100 w/ a slug barrel and Brenneke slugs. I carry a Rem 788 in 308 for power lines and a Springfield 03 in 3006 for bean fields.

I always wondered what the 'necks talked about when amongst their own kind and now I know - GUNS. Fascinating stuff. Anyone gonna tell the story about how ole Cooter got drunk and then tried to milk the bull?? Yuk, yuk.

Dunno about you there "Bob", but (assuming you don't believe in owning a weapon like a good little dhimmified liberal) if'n there ever comes a time where we will need to resort to our wits and firearms to help put food on the table, I reckon those of us with the firearms will have a little more say in the matter than y'all city boys.

I also reckon that you'll loose a few dozen pounds of your lard butt because once your local King Kroger runs out of food, you might find yourself very much out of luck, and out of food. Unless of course, you take to raiding peoples' property, in which case you'll have to consider the OTHER uses of a high powered hunting rifle, and the guy who'll be aiming one at you as you come to harm his goods and his family.

Nah then it will be BoobinStanford milking the bull and his neighbors. He will be the neighborhood bitch, and no longer so pompous and preening either. Giddyup brokeback.

I saw on some other site that the real story is that she got drunk at a bar and fell while stumbling home.

"always wondered what the 'necks talked about when amongst their own kind"

Leave that small town of yours and come hang out with some of us. We'll have an old fashion picnic. Practice squealing like a pig

"got drunk at a bar and fell while stumbling home."

WHo among us has not been down that path?
