NR- Idon'tOu

Update below.

Sorry but I don't get it. Rich Lowry at NRO, who rarely if ever links around to various blogs, has a bleg going.

Meanwhile, I look at Pajamas Media, at what Michelle has done with Hot Air - where poor Allah can't even get a company iPhone, at the hundreds of independent blogs slugging it out with little or no ad revenue via TTLB, or Real Clear Politics - all of whom reach out and interact with bloggers, and I can think of at least a dozen other places where I'd rather drop some green.

Frankly I find it insulting. Tell Bill to take a mortgage on the sail boat if you need the bucks. I've watched more than a few items play out at NRO a day or two after bloggers were done with it without a single link in the piece. While there is certainly some good stuff on occasion, personally, I don't find the content to be all that. And, as noted, I'm unaware of NRO ever doing much to help out, or be a real partner with the many other voices in new media either struggling to get by, or dedicated enough to do it while holding a real job.

Maybe some of the folks at NRO need to get one of those and lighten the load before they come blegging to bloggers for cash. But if NRO's your cup of tea, click the link at top.

Just happened across this - is NRO the next Air America?

Amen on the difficulty getting a link from NRO. Adding injury to insult, the one time I got a link it was to a cross-posting at redstate.

As a lifelong NR subscriber, though, I can tell you this didn't start with NRO. The magazine holds a fundraising drive at least once a year.

And this thought just occurred to me: I wrote a newspaper editorial once -- NR's 25th anniversary, I think -- and a few weeks later got a personal letter from Bill Buckley. So it was actually easier to get a thank-you note from WFB than it is to get linked at NRO.

My quick impression is that they are more a part of old elite media, than they are a part of new media. Yes, they are on the Right, but media-wise, I think they are out of step. They're today's media equivalent of Chrysler decades ago and I'm not into bailouts. IMO they should improve their product if they want to play online. Levin is no longer blogging there, if not for Steyn, who'd read them at all? I don't find Goldberg, Lowry or some others very interesting. Too much silver spoon and too little grass roots for me.

Fearless Internets Leader Reihl:

What better way to raise funds than to leverage the Defeatocrats' tactical mistake of using hateful personal insults against fawnlike Rush Limbaugh? I suggest we have a cryathon and get people to sponsor us based upon the amount of time we pledge to spend wailing and rending our garments.

Waaaaaaaaah! is the way to victory!

Excelsior!

Strange this. I have NRO in my feed reader and lately I have been scrolling right past their posts. I thought it was me who had had a change in mindset. There is something different going on there that has left me cold, although I'm not sure I could describe what. As to links, they link to each other and to a small circle of their "friends," meaning the other elites who make the same cocktail circuit rounds they do in Washington or New York. Good luck on seeing a link to everyday bloggers who usually have the story well covered before you ever see a mention there. They are good as a source for stories that require "insider" info you only get when you are able to walk the halls of Congressional office buildings.

F them I say!

I've been sick to death of these elitist websites and elitist bloggers for a long time. As a matter of fact elitist organizations in general who continue to expect money from the little guy all while laughing behind their backs at them. They'll steal your content and not even provide a link, meanwhile taking checks to the bank for their "genius" at making points that they stole from others.

Several of the people you mention above are just as guilty as NRO.

As for Pajama's Media. F them too. I didn't join when they offered and ever since then have been snubbed, as have others, by never being linked sicne their founding. I am not alone as independent bloggers who didn't sell their soul to them are also "blacklisted" it seems.

I suppose you have to be a part of their clique as they only link to others in their circle and screw everyone else. It's about the bucks and self patting on the back, not issues, the cause and dialogue with all of them.
