There are spats over the respective primary systems in both major parties, but the fight within the Democrat Party is getting more headlines and revealing institutional issues that nearly always prevent Democrats from governing effectively. The devil is in their special interest mindset and also their standard tactics.
There are pledges to sign, this or that group which absolutely must have its day in the sun and, ultimately, nothing is fair because there is no cohesive whole, simply different factions competing for attention and power. Ultimately both parties will likely move to a national primary strategy. Republicans are simply much better at not letting you see the sausage being made. In an era when image in politics often trumps substance, that can mean a great deal. Ironically, Democrats always prove to be a Republican's best friend when it comes to framing issues. With a loose cannon like Dean heading the DNC, don't look for the Dem's issues here to be resolved quietly, or anytime soon.
The Democratic candidates have signed a pledge that would forbid them from campaigning in states such as Michigan and Florida that have sought to move their presidential primaries into January 2008.
The move ended weeks-long jockeying over which states get to hold early primaries.
Democratic leaders in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, the four states that had been designated by the Democratic National Committee to hold early primaries, demanded in letters Friday that the candidates not participate in the early primaries of other states. The candidates either had to sign the pledge or risk annoying officials in those key states.

"Why Democrats Always Govern Poorly"
Ok, you've given us reasons why Dems govern poorly, what republicans excuse?

what republicans excuse?
Some of them are like Larry Craig - they suck.

Uh oh, more bad news for the patriots

When it comes to governing, I'm partial to something that actually works like, oh say, divine monarchy.

oh, i dunno - i think our system would work just fine, if we used it as it was written. for starters, let's go back to only letting property owners to vote. that'll prevent renters from writing themselves checks from the treasury. gotta be fair, though: in the current system, renters DO pay into the treasury via income tax, so ... no more income tax!
install - over the dems' dead bodies - the 'fairtax' system, which would eliminate all income taxes, and disband the IRS to boot.
naaah, that'll never work. it'd put lawyers & cpa's out of work, so they'll make sure their bought-n-paid-for politicians never allow that to happen. ok! guess i'll have to go with 'divine monarchy' too! (just no monarchs named kennedy, or bush, or clinton is all i ask.)

I just saw this entry, featured at the side of Michelle Malkin's home page. When I saw the title, I was wondering: What is the reason that Republicans also so frequently govern poorly?

"Uh oh, more bad news for the patriots..."
And, with that, BobInStamford and other libs no longer hide the truth: that they, themselves, are not patriots.

Aaksah: because power corrupts. They get elected as Republicans and the govern as themselves instead of what their constituents want. Unfortunately, they are better than the alternative Democrat so they get voted in again. Our primary system fails us a lot.

As I often say ...
The GOP doesn't get it right
The Dems just don't get it

"--- When it comes to governing, I'm partial to something that actually works like, oh say, divine monarchy. ---"
And the only King under which a Divine Monarchy will work is none other than King Jesus.
Unfortunately, until He descends from His Holy Heaven with ten thousands of His saints bearing His praise and testimony behind Him, when He shall open His mouth, and with His Divine Word proceeding forth as a two-edged sword, He shall utter those only righteous Words which He alone may speak to slay the woefully unrepentant wicked who have assembled against Him, and who have waged an ungodly war against Him and His saints from ages past until thence...
...until that day when He sets His foot down upon the Mount of Olives and declares His Kingship over all of this earth... (even so, come, Lord Jesus)!
Until then, we shall all suffer with all kinds of insufficient and imperfect government, with varying amounts of tyranny.
And as far as our many meager, weak, sinful, and utterly imperfect ways of governance which we have experimented with as a race of humans under Heaven, the Representative Republic framed under the influence of the Word of God is as good as we can hope to have...
...and such is our Republic, if - as Benjamin Franklin spoke to one lady who inquired of th Continental Congress' efforts in Philadelphia more than 220 years ago...
... if we truly shall endeavor to keep it, until the coming of our great God and King, the Lord Jesus Christ.
And one more Franklin quotes, and I am finished for this fine morning... and with a second quote besides, shall I retire to my bed chambers for a fitful repose:
"--- Man will ultimately be governed by God or by tyrants. ---" (B. Franklin)
"--- A Bible and a newspaper in every house, a good school in every district - all studied and appreciated as they merit - are the principal support of virtue, morality, and civil liberty. ---" (B. Franklin)

Slightly OT, but Jack Kelly seems to nail just what it is about Dem pols vs. Rep. pols:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07245/813801-373.stm
It's the constituents. We have high standards for ours and generally "throw the bums out" when they fail us. The Dems wink at their pols' pecadillos, poor governing and general all-around ineptness and corruption. In fact for Dems I think those are features, not bugs. Dems have no standards.
I have a high degree of antipathy for Republican politicians, but not for any lack of governing ability. I lose it when they renege on their promises and when they succumb to lefty inside-the-beltway mindthink and defeatism, as well as spending and pork. Good government to me is the basics, low taxes, and leave us the heck alone.

Or to steal a line from Bill Maher...
Republicans believe government doesn't work so they get elected and prove it.

Quoting from Maher now, Spart? Got anything in that same book of quotes from Chairman Mao, Che, or John Wayne Gacy?
