This recent post by Crooks and Liars sort of sums up the dilemma of how impossible it is to gain any support for the war from the hapless Left. First the post:
This Week with George Stephanopolis notes the passings this week including the official Pentagon count of 10 troops from Iraq.
then the comment. A six to one ratio in any war is remarkable and a clear sign that staying the course is basically all that's required to secure victory. Since the anti-war Left refuses to accept that some wars do indeed need to be fought and also won, they've no choice but to make the worst of every bit of news out of Iraq. If we can't question their patriotism, we can at least expose their lack of logic and dedication to failure. It's also difficult to comprehend how they can claim to support the troops, when they undermine the military command structure which supports them at every turn.
Right now the news is announcing that the USA killed 60 insurgents in Iraq. Something similar is announced every few days. But they never once explain how they determined that each and every one of the 60 was an ‘enemy’ during their post-mortem. It seems very odd that the media takes the military’s word characterizating these body counts

That 'ratio' thing reminds me of a joke:
A large group of Al-Qaeda fighters are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand dune:
“One MARINE is better than ten Al-Qaeda fighters “.
The Al-Qaeda commander quickly orders 10 of his best men over the dune where upon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few minutes, then silence.
The voice once again calls out:
“One MARINE is better than one-hundred Al-Qaeda fighters.”
Furious, the Al-Qaeda commander sends his next best 100 troops over the dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of battle, again Silence.
The MARINE’S voice calls out again:
“One MARINE is better than one-thousand Al-Qaeda fighters.”
The enraged Al-Qaeda commander musters 1000 fighters and sends them to the other side of the dune. Rifle fire, machine guns, grenades, rockets and Cannon fire ring out as a terrible battle is fought …. Then silence.
Eventually one badly wounded Al-Qaeda fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander …….
“Don’t send any more men …… it’s a trap. There are two of them.”

What's remarkable is the fact that you heroes still haven't taken control of a 3rd world backwater inhabited by people without cable tv. Also remarkable is how expensive you're 21st century Vietnam is.

Mr christamfordmum thinks having or not having cable TV has something to do with the ability to plant IEDs or be a good suicide bomber.
He loves people like all regressives. It is only the people he has contact with and reads about that he hates.
He is in favor of people being safe and secure. Just not in Israel or America.
He is a poster boy for the left.

Anti-War Left??? Sorry, no such thing or not so much anyway. Now, Anti-Bush Left there you have a truism. The majority of the anti war crowd couldn't care less about this war or any other, or how many people die, or way and money is no object. Disclaimer: The foregoing statement does not include the few who have ACTUAL reasons to be against any war.

People without cable TV have more time on their hands. Anyway, I say if the MSM wants to verify the number of enemy dead they should walk out into the field and count them themselves.

Yes, Tom, but then they would have to leave their absolute stresses in the green zone. They are not about to start drinking water from an Army tanker at this late date.

How do they determine who the enemy is when they kill them? Every single press release by the military that has enemy deaths as part of its content spells out the reson the dead were fired upon. To answer that question, all you need do is read a military press release.

This is probably one of the best jokes I've ever heard, it's right up there with "What kind of Family are you: Democrat, Republican, or Marine?"
Posted by: Haldamir | Monday, October 01, 2007 at 08:52 PM
Forgot to add the actual joke itself. :(
Are you a Democrat Family? Republican family? Marine Corps Family? Here's a little test that will help you to decide :
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Glock 40-caliber, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Democrat Response:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor? Or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? Should I just ignore him and hope for the best? What does my wife think? What would my French cousin think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? What do the European courts say about this situation? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? What would the United Nations do in this case? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few a days and try to come to a consensus.

Republican Response:
BANG!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marine Response:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click..... (sounds of reloading). BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click
Daughter: "Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips or Hollow Points?"
Son: "Can I shoot the next one?"
Wife: "You aren't taking that one to the Taxidermist!"
This is why I love Marines. USMC is adapting to 4GW tactics first and US Army learned from them. Google FMFM-1A.
