SC 2 Were Carrying Ammunition
Interesting, we haven't heard this before.
TAMPA -- Bullets were among the items investigators found in the car of two University of South Florida students.
The deputy who pulled over Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed and Youssef Samir Megahed, 21, found a box of bullets near the seat, several pipe bombs in the trunk and "other suspicious items," according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
The men have said they had only fireworks, but deputies found no sign of any commercial fireworks, said Berkeley County Chief Deputy C.W. Henerey.
A more detailed interview regarding the initial traffic stop here. Michelle Malkin's archive available through here ... mine here, scroll down.
Alarm bells started going off for Blakely even before he asked the students any questions, he says. They scrambled to toss a laptop into the back seat. Blakely spotted a box of bullets.
And there were the conflicting stories.

I wonder what kind of ammo, and how many rounds. No firearms?

I know this is being pedantic, but was it a box of bullets (the actual projectiles that contain no powder) or a box of cartridges (bullet, powder, case & primer)? The first is only useful if they were planning to use them as projectiles in the pipe bombs. Obviously the second would require a firearm which they shouldn't be able to purchase legally.

What difference does it make if they were carrying bullets? You guys sound as though such an act is illegal. Why should their firearms [if any] be registered? Like anyone else, they should be permitted to carry firearms. And, it's only illegal for them to purchase a firearm [with the possible exception of a handgun] if they are (a) foreigners and (b) attempt to purchase such from an FFL.

Something seems weird about the whole computer thing. Why not ditch the computer as soon as the cop turns on the christmas tree and you know you are being pulled over? Why wait until an officer walks over to the car to ditch it in a way that he can clearly see?
One of those two is a permanent resident. He is allowed to purchase guns and to own ammunition. The other is, as far as I know, here in a student visa. He would be a "non-immigrant alien". A non-immigrant alien may generally not own guns or ammunition UNLESS they have a hunting license.
This seemed like a good reference.

The sword of Muhammad and the Quran are the most fatal enemies of civilization, liberty, and the truth which the world has yet known.

Wasn't Mohamed and one of the roommates the ones caught shooting squirrels in the park? With a pellet gun maybe but they were using a gun.

Things not looking good for the SC2. The convergence of unusual circumstances and now evidence is not pretty.

Henry -- I suggest rereading 478.32 You are dead wrong.
