Really? The French? Arrogant? Who knew...does this study say somewhere that only ONE country can be considered arrogant?

My own interactions with people I've met in France have been very pleasant. There is the occasional jerk, of course, but for the most part people are polite, even friendly. Upon realizing I am American, they seem almost anxious to engage me in friendly conversation - in English.

It's a contradiction. One does hear that the French dislike Americans, and there are many examples to back that up. But my personal, one-on-one experiences have been the opposite.

We lived in France twice, we even sent our 11 year old daughter to public school there. The French people were as nice as can be and we made friends easily with the ones who spoke English. Unfortunately, neither of us could speak French, although our daughter learned the language in three months.
