From as far back as her comments on staying home and baking cookies during husband Bill's campaign, Hillary Clinton has lacked what some utensils in a kitchen often have - Teflon. Bill Clinton had it. It remains unclear if the almost magical covering is transferable to a spouse.
It's also unclear if the Hsu-nami is enough to damage her, or if this other scandal will gain traction in the press. But the H. Clinton machine people better get cooking if they don't want to be left with egg on their faces in the end.
The Peter Paul versus the Clintons civil suit continues to heat up. Doug from Upland writes to provide the contents of a fax that was sent to Senator Clinton's office earlier today.

Lets not forget Alan Fabian, Mitt Romney's former national finance co-chair who had to resign after being indicted for fraud. Io reiterate Dan's quesion: Does Mitt have the "teflon" to withstand this? Can his campaign overcome the weekly embarassments and missteps?
*********************
A fund-raiser for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign resigned from his volunteer post last week after being indicted in Maryland for allegedly defrauding companies of $32 million.
Alan B. Fabian, 43, a Maryland businessman who cochaired the national finance committee for Romney's campaign, was indicted Wednesday by a Maryland grand jury on 23 counts of mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury, and obstruction of justice, according to the US attorney's office in Baltimore.
Fabian had served as cochair since January and had contributed the maximum amount of $2,300, said Eric Fehrnstrom, a campaign spokesman.
"We have accepted Mr. Fabian's resignation from his unpaid, volunteer position on the national finance committee, and we are returning his contribution to the campaign," Fehrnstrom said in an e-mail yesterday.

Alan B. Fabian, 43, of Cockeysville, is charged in a 23-count indictment with mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice. The grand jury handed up the indictment Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore and it was unsealed Thursday.
At a news conference, U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein called it one of the largest monetary theft cases ever prosecuted in Maryland.

Ah, the refreshing smell of election year sewage.
And all this, a year earlier than in previous Presidential election cycles.
Aren't we lucky.

wow! "worst president ever"! now i ask you, how many *other* blogs can say they've gotten comments from jimmy carter?

Worst represents the Clintons' tactics accurately. When you get caught doing something nasty in the woodshed, attack someone on the other side, anyone will do.

Bush is the worst President in US history and that is exactly how both short term and long term history will remember him. He is nothing more then a rich coward who exists for no reason other then to do the bidding of his rich wealthy handlers and keepers. He is living proof that the Republican Party of the USA never was a political that is of, for or by the people. The real track record of the Republican Party of the USA is one of plutocracy and kleptocracy as opposed to democracy as they are only good at producing Presidents who are nothing more then the rich man's rich man. Bush fleeced a prosperous nation to benefit the top 2 % of the richest wealthiest citizens on the backs of the middle and lower classes of the USA. The only real beneficiaries of his so called tax cuts were the rich and wealthy minority of the USA who do not need it. In the case of the current President, he and his rich corporate America daddy Cheney both have a lot of U.S. & foreign blood on their hands. The deaths of all U.S. soldiers in Iraq have been totally in vain as their purpose there was only so that Republicans could seize power in the U.S. senate as opposed to protecting the USA. Bush never intended on winning a war in Iraq as it was always his intention to occupy Iraq from now to eternity as opposed to any of the lies he gave to the people of the USA. Bush & Cheney’s favorite part of it all is the fact that they and their Republican Party did all this all this while removing the divide between church & state, using Christianity as a shield to ward off criticism and hiding behind the lie of conservative values as well as jingoistic patriotism.

lovely little hysterical speech there, dave. only one problem: as bad as bush is, a look at *any* presidential index clearly shows that carter was worse. MUCH worse. i know you bush-haters get all wordy & deranged at the thought of anyone challenging your dogma, but ... there it is.
let's look at just 2 items: bush's military won a stunningly quick, stunningly easy war over what liberals breathlessly warned us was "the battle-hardened 3rd largest army in the world!!!!" (remember the breathless news reports of 'tens of thousands of body bags'? remember 'US forces stalled in baghdad'?) true, bush has screwed up the subsequent *occupation*. but the conduct & planning & execution of the war itself was brilliant, almost perfect.
secondly, bush's economy has managed *fabulous* numbers. growth rate; unemployment rate; stock market; confidence levels; interest rates .... a huge list of **terrific** results, all many orders of magnitude better than carter - a world-class bonehead - could ever manage. (the concept of "misery index" was invented during the carter years. that was no accident.)
since bush has done at least *2* things right; and carter never did *anything* right .... a logical, non-hysterical, non-deranged-liberal-partisan-hack can only conclude jimmuh carter is a much worse prez than bush. making a strong case for himself as "worst president in US history". heh. hurts, don't it?

Reagan was the teflon President. Bill Clinton was the first styrofoam President.

Sorry, David, I'm afraid bb is right, and even worse, Carter continues to add to his Worse President Ever legacy.

Bush's Military? It was there before he was president, it will be there when he's gone. It's the American Military.
Worst President Ever - And it ain't even close:
George W. Bush's presidency appears headed for colossal historical disgrace. Barring a cataclysmic event on the order of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, after which the public might rally around the White House once again, there seems to be little the administration can do to avoid being ranked on the lowest tier of U.S. presidents. And that may be the best-case scenario. Many historians are now wondering whether Bush, in fact, will be remembered as the very worst president in all of American history.
**************
Of 415 historians who expressed a view of President Bush’s administration to this point as a success or failure, 338 classified it as a failure and 77 as a success. (Moreover, it seems likely that at least eight of those who said it is a success were being sarcastic, since seven said Bush’s presidency is only the best since Clinton’s and one named Millard Fillmore.) Twelve percent of all the historians who responded rate the current presidency the worst in all of American history, not too far behind the 19 percent who see it at this point as an overall success.

Looks like Worst Ever is losing the Christian Vote too:
“The National Coalition of American Nuns is impelled by conscience to call you to act promptly to impeach President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for … high crimes and misdemeanors,” the group wrote in a letter written on behalf of its board members.
The letter says that impeachment is warranted for their “deceiving the public under the false pretense that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction” and “destroying” the reputation of the United States and the good will of other nations.
“The time for impeachment is now — before the example of George W. Bush’s regime is set in stone,” they wrote. “Future generations will thank you for preserving the freedom of our nation and its relation to the entire human community.”

liberals *REALLY* don't like it when it's proven that not only is bush NOT "worst prez ever" .... but it's an easily ascertained FACT that liberal democrat bonehead jimmuh carter IS. quoting polls of "historians", groupthink-befuddled state employees working in collegiate vacuums, isn't going to change facts.
carter never did ANYthing right. not once; not ever. and bush has. hell, if you want to include "bad war leadership" as a presidential index, bush shines WAY ahead of bonehead democrat harry truman, who squandered 50,000 american DEAD in a meaningless war with north korea. a war he never won, btw: the korean war ended in a draw. bush, OTOH, took iraq with 5000% fewer casualties. (we must also never forget that the dreaded unholy 'house unamerican activities committee' was formed on truman's watch. ergo, he *condoned* the blacklisting of poor innocent hollywood commies. what an asshole, huh??)
and i believe i've already mentioned bush's vastly superior econ numbers. enormously better than carter; better than truman, even.
ok then! we can safely say that not only is bush NOT 'worst ever', he's not even *SECOND WORST* ever. hurts, don't it?
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Tuesday, September 04, 2007 at 08:40 PM
"carter never did ANYthing right."
Someone missed the Camp David Accords and his intervention in Afghanistan.
Surveys of historians rank his presidency higher than W's, maybe because if nothing else it only lasted one term.

Oh, and BTW the HUAC started in 1934 as the McCormack-Dickstein Committee and later became the HUAC in 1938. Never let the facts get in the way of a good rant.

BS Bob:
Jimmy Carter: Nobel Prize Winner.
A few highlights from the illustrious terms of Worst Ever:
Iraq, potentially the biggest foreign relations blunder in US History. And yes, that includes Viet Nam.
Katrina, Worst Ever couldn't cut his vacation short to deal with the crisis. He did do a nice flyover though. Great Job Brownie.
Budget: He's spend more money that we don't have faster than anyone. Fiscal Conservative? What a joke. He went from surplus to deficit faster than any president ever.
Vacation: He's going to set a record for most time off. Which, considering his incompetence, may actually be a good thing. And the president who took the least vacation? That would be Jimmy Carter.
Worst Ever's gone radioactive. Come election time, no Republican is going to want George in his district.

Ah, yes. Nuns calling for impeachment.
These ladies generally don't get too much air time out of the convent, so they have no clue how truly terrifying a Pelosi presidency could be.
Now if we limited "W" to being worst President of the 21st century, then they'd have something. After all, it would be just be between him, and the last year of Bubba Clinton himself. A close race, if there ever was one.
But "worst ever" might have to be a toss up between Jimmy "give me peanuts or give me stagflation" Carter, Herbert Hoover, Andrew Johnson, Benjamin Harrison, and for fun and giggles, we'll even toss in FDR for all that tweaking he did with his socialist policies that extended the depression for nearly a decade.
Bush 41 or 43 wouldn't even come close.

whoops. my bad, spartan, as to the correct family tree of the infamous House Unamerican Activities Committee. since you're clearly more in the know about this stuff than me, maybe *you* can help *me*, spart.
here's my problem: the HUAC started under the sainted liberal FDR - a democrat - and roared into prominance under harry truman, also a democrat. at the time of its creation, the house was controlled by the democrat party - by an enormous margin - and in the truman years, the house was still (mostly) democrat-controlled, if i remember my history right. so! started by democrats; sanctioned by democrat presidents; staffed/manned/led by democrat congressmen ... it can only be said that HUAC was a **democrat** show. when they called in those poor poor hollywood writers & actors and asked those *awful* mean & insensitive questions of them - the process that hollywood's been whining "blacklist!" about for 50 years now - that was DEMOCRATS doing that, right? democrats in the house of representatives, right? that happened **ONLY** because democrats MADE it happen, right? had the democrats been against that, they could have stopped it easily, being in control of congress, right?
that being the case, why do liberals always whine "mccarthyism!" and "blacklisting!" every chance the get? referring to the republican **Senator** who never - not once - called a hollywood jerk to testify to his committee? mccarthy had nothing to do with blacklisting. that was a DEMOCRAT show. (rather like the illegal and despicably racist interning of tens of thousands of innocent japanese-american citizens, when you think about it.)
it was the *democrats* who *led* the hollywood anti-commie purges, wasn't it? (that certainly doesn't square with what we're told about the warm, kind, caring, wonderful democrat saints, FDR and truman. why would those magnificent men ALLOW such evil committees to go unchecked & unchallenged? i mean, even the demonic nazibushhitler has never called for such a hateful thing as HUAC. surely had the good & kind FDR or truman spoken out forcefully against HUAC, they could have stopped it. but they must not have, huh?) democrat formed; democrat sanctioned; democrat guided. the question is, how come those inconvenient facts never come up? are the liberals who whine "mccarthy" when they mean "HUAC" just 'not letting facts get in the way of a good rant'?
like the FACT that carter is the worst president in american history? (that one's for YOU, jimmuh.)
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Wednesday, September 05, 2007 at 02:27 AM
Right. And Nixon wasn't a Crook. Larry Craig's not Gay. Shrub / Cheney didn't dodge the draft.
Nobel Peace Prize Winnder Jimmy Carter tried to bring peace to the Middle East. Bush lied us into a Middle East war that may well take generations to fix.
George W. Bush: Worst President Ever!
Posted by: Worst President Ever | Wednesday, September 05, 2007 at 12:15 PM
well, i'll give your moronic supporters one thing, jimmuh: they're determined. even though they can make no logical case for doing so - even though their answer to questions about "why are bush's econ & military results SO much better than carter's?" is always "that doesn't matter!" - even though they can only blame carter's **horrendous** economy on "everyone else but him!" - .....
they still desperately cling to the lie that carter isn't the worst of all time. they have a LOT invested in the notion that bush is worst, don't they?
after awhile, they realize they'll never win the argument by using facts & figures, and revert to the classic liberal technique of 'get the last word in and claim victory'. it's really a lot of fun denying this to them. watch & see.
oh, BTW, jimmuh: did you ever come to grips with that quote your mother once made? you know, the one where she said "the world would have been a lot better off if i'd stayed a virgin"? *dude*. when your own MOTHER admits you were the worst president of all time .... well .... ah, well. at least carter has the satisfaction of knowing he isn't tarred with the stink of the hateful HUAC, like fdr and truman are. you're still the worst of all time, jimmuh. but at least you're not a blacklisting POS like *those* (democrats, naturally) guys were.

When you start a war and all the reasons you used turn out to be false, then the aftermath turns into a fiasco, you've just lapped the pack.
Only 503 days until Bush leaves office. Start your party planning now - it's gonna be a big one.

saaaay, can anyone tell the class why jimmy carter - the worst president of all time - was only elected to one term? or why his re-election bid was such a huge slaughter? the worst in american history for a sitting president? it was almost as if *everyone in the country* had decided he was ... oh, i dunno .... that he was The Worst President Of All Time! the passage of time has only served to *strengthen* that fact, BTW.
still, carter makes for good trivia questions. "who's the one-term president who responded to his crushing re-election defeat by writing a blatantly anti-semitic screed?" "which incumbent president suffered the worst re-election defeat in american history?" "which disgraced president responded to his crushing re-election defeat by *giving* (for free!) nuclear reactors to a rogue communist police state, which then promptly used them to make nuclear weapons they previously were unable to obtain?"

The new numbers—a 2 point drop from the last NEWSWEEK Poll at the beginning of May—are statistically unchanged, given the poll’s 4 point margin of error. But the 26 percent rating puts Bush lower than Jimmy Carter, who sunk to his nadir of 28 percent in a Gallup poll in June 1979. In fact, the only president in the last 35 years to score lower than Bush is Richard Nixon. Nixon’s approval rating tumbled to 23 percent in January 1974, seven months before his resignation over the botched Watergate break-in.

i realize teacher didn't cover this in "logic for dummies", back in high school, but "results of popularity poll" isn't the determining standard of a great/lousy president. bonehead. as proof of this, i give you the statist's favorite 19th century american, abe "butcher" lincoln.
lincoln was probably the most hated president: he trampled the constitution; introduced the illegal draft that was grossly unfair to the poor- the folks in NYC weren't too pleased with that - ; he *instituted* the policy that allowed rich guys to buy their way out of mil service; he jailed journalists who disagreed with him; he took 4 years (!) to win a war against a massively outgunned enemy that didn't have one single cannon factory in their whole country (!!!); he allowed his military to horribly abuse and torture enemy POW's; he encouraged his generals to commit war crimes upon enemy civilians.
and so much more.
yet despite all that, "a majority of historians" - groupthinkers all - rate lincoln as a great president. so your popularity poll argument is a joke, jimmuh. besides, even the hated and reviled lincoln managed to win *his* re-election campaign. just like bush did. carter suffered the worst defeat of an incumbent president *in american history.* i wonder why? surely there must be SOME reason for that, right? (lincoln's mom *liked* her son, btw. carter's mom "wished she'd remained a virgin".)(so do we all, lillian. so do we all.)
winner & still champeen! the "worst president of all time", james halfwit carter!!!

The blood seems to have gone to Bob's head. He's truly delusional.
Posted by: Worst President Ever | Thursday, September 06, 2007 at 12:36 AM
*that's* your defense of jimmy carter, the worst president in history?? THAT'S what you're reduced to babbling in the face of history, statistics and common sense? "that guy who doesn't buy into the current mandatory liberal dogma is delusional!"??
this would be deeply embarrassing for anyone with a brain, jimmuh. however, since it's your position that carter isn't the worst ever, despite having done nothing right ever; despite presiding over the emascualtion of the military; despite having presided over stagflation so bad they had to invent a 'misery index' just to measure it .... it's clear you *can't* be embarrassed.
it's obvious you're an idiot. none of which changes the *fact*, though: carter was and is the worst president in US history; & was handed the *worst re-election defeat of an incumbent in history* for a real good reason. when carter dies and is (grudgingly) assigned to presidential valhalla, he'll be the junior backup pissboy, and will have to call buchanan and harding "sir". "hold the bucket steady, carter!"

"wait for the *shake*, carter!"
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Thursday, September 06, 2007 at 02:31 AM
I don't argue with people who think the earth is flat, it's 6000 years old, that the moon-landing was done in Hollywood, etc.
Proclaiming Lincoln, FDR, Truman and Carter all terrible presidents puts you in the same delusional company.
Posted by: Worst President Ever | Thursday, September 06, 2007 at 10:56 AM
doggedly staying with the "you're delusional if you disagree with what teacher told us was true" tactic, jimmuh grimly hangs on, trying to get the last word in. it's his only hope: he knows he has no other way to tell himself he's won.
every word i've written about abe "butcher" lincoln; fdr, and stupid jimmy carter is verifiable and true, jimmuh. lincoln and fdr trampled over the constitution in ways bush has never *dreamed of*. carter's gross incompetence was so remarkable that it's a valid guess that he's brain-damaged. your frantic bleats of "that's not the conventional wisdom!" merely marks you as yet another lemming/sheep, dully lining up to do as you're told. afraid or too lazy to do the reading.("i'd rather play gameboy!") naturally, you're a liberal.
not gonna fly, jimmuh. you can't have the last word. carter still worst prez ever.
