Drudge has it in red with no link - here's one link, anyway. Considering it's France, is this a preemptive surrender?
The world should "prepare for the worst ... (which) is war" over the Iranian nuclear crisis, but seeking a solution through talks should take priority, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Sunday.
"We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war," he said in an interview broadcast on television and radio.
"We must negotiate right to the end," with Iran, he said, but underlined that if Tehran possessed an atomic weapon, it would represent "a real danger for the whole world."

"We must negotiate right to the end"
And this is our problem, in a nutshell. Negotiate, i.e. appease, while Iran continues with impunity.
And yes, we should prepare for war. This was *never* a question among those who have been able to realistically and critically assess the situation. The only question all along has been whether it will be war on our terms, or on theirs.

and I should add that this last question has yet to be resolved.

Oh, hell, the liberals are screwed. Even their favorite Western ally realizes the danger of Iran possessing a nuclear bomb. The Left are the only people stupid or cynical enough to want Iran to have The Bomb. Looks to me like the Left has only one ally, and that is radical Islam. Great company you keep, guys. May we please call you traitors now?

Does anyone else get the feeling that we are finally just going to go off on someone. I mean the stage is being set, "permission" is being given and the troops are in place.
I think the world needs to see what would happen if we really did just go WWII on someone in the M.E. it would serve as a wonderful object lesson to the rest of the "moderates" in the muslim world. That lesson being: if we really wanted to we could exterminate you if we really wanted to and there is nothing you can do about it. That might motivate them enough to take care of the extremists, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the muslims to make a smart choice.

As I stated on another thread, the islamists will continue attacking, killing, and subjugating until "we" have put them down with sufficient brutality and finality that they know better than to f* with us again. But even that won't be enough, because eventually, with the passage of time, they will forget that lesson and try again. And the world which exists at that time will be faced once again with a fight for their culture and way of life (This is assuming, of course, that *we* somehow manage to win this particular battle in this particular time).
I make this statement based upon the ideology and history of the islamists, and the 1300-year history of their interaction with the non-muslim world.

I suspect that French intelligence people (DGSE etc) - which may happen to be much better professionals than (at least until recently) political and military leaders of France - did found some REALLY disturbing evidence of Iran's preparation for war using WMD (nuclear and possibly biological as well).
They are roumoured to have quite a few sources in Middle East - so they may have come across something really bad.
I just can't see any other explanation as to why Kouchner(who isn't a hawk by any stretch of imagination) would make such a statement.

"prepare for the worst"
That would be a white flag shortage, right?

Talk until the war starts, but don't let them get the Nuc. That seems OK to me. Maybe soon I'll be able to buy French wine again.

"We must negotiate right to the end"
The thing about "negotiation" and diplomacy in general is: sometimes it consists of saying "bite me", "fuck off and die", "do it my way or else" and the like.
Lotsa people forget that.

Quite true, that.

True, but maybe this sort of "negotiation" should have come a few years ago, before giving Iran the time it needed to continue and complete(?) its program.
