Did Israel Strike Iranian Missiles In Syria?
The Jerusalem Post is reporting that ground forces are now being reported to have been involved in a recent Israeli mission into Syria to take out what STRATFOR suggests may have been ballistic missiles provided by Iran. If true, they might have simply been playing an assessment role after the alleged strike.
The Syrian Foreign Minister is said to have canceled a planned visit to Saudi Arabia and the words war and hostile act are starting to make their way into some headlines. Syria is working to get Turkey behind its protests over the incident.
Israel's alleged incursion into Syrian skies last week included a strike on what was likely to have been Iranian arms transferred to the country, CNN reported on Tuesday afternoon. According to the news network, a ground operation was also part of the overall foray. Neither Jerusalem nor Damascus has confirmed the report.

This series of clues -- none necessarily contradictory or mutually exclusive -- does not present a definitive picture. The continued oddities surrounding Damascus' claims of dropped ordnance could indicate a strike mission. Many of the early details that suggested a reconnaissance flight -- perhaps to track a militant training camp or ping the light Syrian air defenses in the east -- still hold true. These details could indicate a possible strike against a militant camp or, as some information indicates was most likely, destruction of a newly imported ballistic missile shipment, likely from Iran or North Korea.
