I hope to get back to blogging regularly once we get past August. In the meantime, I'm looking into a new lap top and a video recorder for my blogging, if anyone has any thoughts.

Get a Macbook (not Macbook Pro - a little more expensive). It's (relatively) cheap, it's reliable, it's fast. It also has a built-in webcam. It's used by a lot of bloggers and podcasters/vidbloggers, so the tools are readily available, many of which are free or cheap.
You don't have to use Windows, but if you do, you can either install Windows natively on a Mac via a free program from Apple called BootCamp, or use virtualization with a program called Parallels. We use Parallels at the office for that one indispensable Windows program (while running the Mac software at the same time), and it works great. You can even install Linux, so you end up with all three operating systems working natively in this one machine.

If youre looking for a PC laptop, Toshiba makes some great machines. If you have money to burn, go with Falcon Northwest.
