So after a couple of days in and around this little south central Pennsylvania town not far from Gettysburg, I decided to actually go to town.
Off-handedly, I asked the lady in what passes for a combination gas station / food mart sort of a deal around these parts, "Is there a town around here?" I asked. "You're in it," she said. "Did ya blink?"
I guess I had.
On the road tomorrow, I suspect ... off to a much bigger town for a short visit with some old friends outside DC.

In PA again and I missed you.......is it my deodorant? ;)
Enjoy your travels Dan.

Remember if you are in my neck of the woods to give "al Qaeda" High School a wide berth... I am sure everything *looks* nice enough there. Don't mind the Saudi funding and such...

Dan: I'm from that area, family farm is up on the Juniata River, still! Come home from Atlanta couple times of year, and get off the big road (81), and travel the small towns; farmer boy, it's in my roots!
Were you in Carlise, Letterkenny, where?
I'm from Lewistown, or kinda near there.....

Dan must have farmer roots too. His last post was at 3:16 AM. Or maybe Las Vegas roots because he hadn't been to bed yet.

"I'm from Lewistown"
You're kidding, right? That's where my family is from. I'm down below Harrisburg right now but heading out in a few minutes. Not sure when I'll be back on line, but soon.

That explains, as they say, that.

Dan: wow, this is eerie!
I'm from Strodes Mills, or more accurately, Lockport?
Does that ring a bell?
I'll give you more info if you email me!
Mom and Dad live across from the old Echo, "White Oaks"!
Do Hartley's, Goss' Peanut Butter Eggs, Red's Diner, and Whoopie Pies from over at Peachey's Store outside Bellville ring a bell?
On the way up from Atlanta at Easter, I took my wife and kids thru Gettysburg, we then took the back road, went over into the Tuscarora Valley, went up thru York Springs, Carlisle 74/75, to Port Royale.
Usually though, I take 81 up to Greencastle, get off there, and take 522 up thru Mount Union, and come in that way!
Wow....send me an email...

I think this trip you are taking is a great idea. Two weeks ago I visited Antietam for the first time and I enjoyed the experience. I read in your other post about how all else pales in comparison to war, and you hit the nail on the head with that comment.
The Civil War seems so devastating compared to other conflicts on our soil, and for good reason. If an when you can, post more about what you encounter and learn while on your trip. It will be much more interesting to your audience than you think it might.

They didn't have a Sheetz?
Wow.

They didn't have a Sheetz?
lol I visited my share - alas, this one was a "Butters" ; )

Shoot; right after the local "institution", Wal-Mart; Sheetz is the 2nd ranking cultural icon/hotspot in Lewistown!
It's amazing, never understood the attraction; but people go "uptown" to go to Sheetz, every dam day!
You'd think it was the Sydney Opera House, based upon the importance it plays in peoples lives!

I may have written back to you about some family names under another email account by mistake. Drop me a note if you got it, Dale. Thanks.
