hmmmm. oil has spiked 8-10 bucks a barrel over the last 3 weeks just as if someone had been buying it up in preparation for something; we now have 3 carrier groups floating around off iranian waters instead of the usual 1 or 2; iraqi counterterror ops are using US air force sorties for the first time in quite awhile, as if to condition foreign radar operators to get used to seeing lots of blips on the screen; we're now (finally) seeing news stories of chinese/iranian weapons being sent into iraq for use against us .......

..... and now israel is warning their people to quit the ME. to remove them from possible retaliatory attacks, maybe?

i *wonder* if something is about to happen. i guess we'll find out soon enough.

Relax, it's only the 7th. I think you have at least until the weekend before the crap hits the fan.

"Wars and rumours of war", as the Master once said nearly 2,000 years ago.

Curious thing with the oil though: in the NYC exurban area, pump prices have edged down a few pennies in spite of the barrel price in the markets.

I reckon that this has more to do with what is already refined and spiked with ethanol (E85) ... and we'll be eating some bitter increases after Labour Day, with home heating fuels taking a nasty pinch as the supply of refined fuels starts to dry up.

Get ready for the annual $0.80 - $1.20 per gallon gas hike in the next few months. :(

"Israelis anywhere in the world should also be alert to the danger of being kidnapped by operatives from Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, according to the announcement from Israel's National Security Council."

*ducks under his bed*
Tell me when its over.

All over the world? Seriously? That's not overhyped at all.

Some counter-intuitive wisdom from former CIA director Woolsey in a piece I read recently: watch to see if the carriers leave the Gulf - then you'll know its on, at least for an air strike on Iran. We dont' need to be in there to protect it and the open ocean gives us an advantage. FWIW

"--- watch to see if the carriers eave the Gulf ---"

Rumour has it that the Iranians' sleek new anti-ship missiles can bean a carrier or three quite easily within 200 miles of its coastal waters.

I reckon removing the carriers to near maximum combat radius of a typical F-18 is in the neighbourhood of 350 miles.
