Goose Creek Terrorism Indictments

via Michelle Malkin: remember that Mohamed hasn't been in the US very long - since January, I believe. I'm adding some additional info below. Mohammed was also brought into the mix by the as yet un-identified individual said to have returned to Canada right after the initial arrest. CBS reports he was teaching the use of explosives for "violent reasons."

As I pointed out, as opposed to ABC's The Blotter's reporting, the material they were said to have been transporting was potassium chlorate - said to be too unstable for model rocketry.

Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, 24, an engineering graduate student and teaching assistant at the Tampa-based university, faces terrorism charges for teaching and demonstrating how to use the explosives.

He and Youssef Samir Megahed, 21, an engineering student, were stopped for speeding in Goose Creek, S.C., on Aug. 4, where they have been held on state charges.

Remember WISE as linked to Sami al-Arian? Well, the landlord of one of the homes searched in this investigation is Noor Salhab. He headed WISE Investments Reality, Inc. see here - but dissolved it ten days after 9/11. And if you search the Florida Sec. of State's website, you'll find he has a host of companies linked to his name. PAL real estate may take on a different meaning after all this, hard to say. He appears to like petroleum transport, too:

Try googling "potassium chlorate rocket". There are hits and recipes from people who do use it as fuel. Keep your powder dry. I'm not comfortable I know enough to make final judgments on this one, even basic ones.

As a former mad bombadier and rocket maker.... I wouldn't have thought of using pot. chlorate. VERY sensitive. Mix with anything containing sulfur, and it goes off with impact. Mix with anything with phosphorus, and it goes off spontaneously. Pot. Perchlorate is considerably more stable, and even that is something you treat with great care.

Now, both were useful in making firecrackers. Mix with aluminum powder, and you have the traditional filling for lady fingers, M-80s, cherry bombs ... and in a bigger size, modern police flash-bangs.

A little history...potassphium chlorate was the explosive used in the old corrosive primers for small arms. After WW2 the arms industry switched to lead styphnate because the ols corrosive primers left potassium chloride in the barrels which, like sodium chloride (salt) was very hygroscopic and unless the barrels were cleaned with water, as well as common solvents the barrels would rust.
During WW2 in some of the island fighting where water was short, Marines used to pee down the barrels of their rifles.
Potassium chlorate is DESIGNED to explode with a sharp blow, unlike most explosives which take a detonator to get them to go "BANG!".
I am a handloader. Driving home with a thousand, or more, primers in their origional packaging doesn't bother me and, as a boy I handled boxes of thousands of those old corrosive primers. That's because the packaging of those primers was designed to limit explosions. An equal weight of potassium chlorate to say ten thousand primers? Well I wouldn't be so quick to carry that in the back of my car.

Ah, the lingering cluelessness of the left. 'This is such a minor crime' Well Peabody, this is why the law enforcement approach to terrorism is deficient. Your psychological need for a perfect justice approach to terrorism requires a crime (terrorist attack for those of us who get it) to be committed before protective measure are taken. Otherwise cluesless liberals will swing into action decrying the terrible treatment of poor innocents at the hands of the police state.

One day you'll get your serious crime instead of your misdemeanor. And then Hollywood can have another commemoration for the thousands of dead, and you can march in the street saying that we need to understand why they hate us, and thousands of grieving widows, children, and friends won't understand you. Or maybe you will be a victim of the attack.

Come on Seek, where is the mention of the pipe bomb(s)? Where it even a mention or citation that the 'explosive material' they had was ILLEGAL? It wasn't. If what they had was illegal or if there was any evidence they had any nefarious purpose in mind they would have been indicted on those counts. They weren't even charged w/having ILLEGAL explosive material!

All they are indicted for is transporting explosive materials without a PERMIT. That isn't me saying, its the indictment saying it. There wasn't any pipe bomb or plot or terrrorist cell. If there was they would have been indicted for such and there at LEAST would have been some kind of mention of it.

These two are not terrorists that much is clear. THe only diffference between this and the Michigan case is that the Michigan case went before a judge so it got dismissed instead of a bunch of SC crackers who would probably have indicted them for attemtped capital murder if they had been charged with it based on the same winger reasoning we see here every day: they're arabs, they were near a military installation.

What happened to all the incriminating info on the GPS tracking system, and the lap top and the computers from the house?
