Update: More here via blogger Val Prieto
My cellphone has not stopped ringing for the past ten minutes. Various sources inform that an announcement will come within the next few minutes from the Cuban government on Cuban TV and media. Stay tuned and we'll see if we've been manipulated once again or if today is the birth date of Cuba's liberty.
Update: Here's the deal and what I know up to now, as of 1500 hours, August 24, 2007:
I think the dude is starting to run out of lives:
U.S. Senior officials said that while there are reports on setbacks in Fidel Castro's health, there are no indications that his death is imminent. Nothing unusual has been reported from Havana. However, Miami is ablaze with rumors, NBC News reported.

Don't count on getting any cheap Havana Cigars any time soon. Once Fidel kicks the bucket, his "little bro" Raul Castro, (at a ripe 77 years of age) who would take over as interim dictator.
Then at some point it gets passed on to one of the younger party faithful, who are likely to be as devoted to Castro's ideals.
