If anyone that stumbles by here knows the South Carolina and, or the Georgia coasts - say from around Goose Creek, SC south to Florida - shoot me an email or leave a comment if you don't mind. I just have some general questions on the areas. Thanks.

Yes, I grew up along the SC coast and have lived my entire life within SC and now GA.
What can I do for ya?

We lived in Summerville, SC during the 3 years my husband was stationed at the Naval Weapons Station, Goose Creek. It was many years ago, so I don't know how much help I could be, but ask away. My daughter lives in Kissimmee, Florida just a mile or so from Disney World and has been in that area for the last 15 years. Before that, she lived near the Georgia coast. They vacation every year in Myrtle Beach, SC. I'm sure that she would be willing to pass on answers to any questions.

I directed that to Aye before you commented, Sara. I need current local info, so let's see if Aye can help first. Thanks. ; )

If you still need answers to your questions, my sister lives in Moncks Corner, SC (Berkeley County) & I can give you her email address; just email me if you want it. By the way, loved your coverage of the Goose Creek "bombers"

I know the area, Dan, and I have contacts who live on a sea island just south of Charleston.

I'm not from around there but did you catch this little snippet? Wonder what that is all about.

I grew up North of there, was stationed on the NC coast and Eastern Georgia while in the military and lived in Broward County Florida for a bit. I have driven the entire East coast several times for both business and pleasure.

Actually, I've just been looking for a sort of non-touristy place to hang out for a week, or so. Something with a beach, decent weekly rentals, etc. Deciding whether I want to make ot down to Tampa eventually, or not.

Dan, we used to go to Sandbridge, which is just south of Virginia Beach. A very nice, quiet area but close enough to Va Beach attractions that you can easily take the kids/wife there on day trips.
plus it's only a 6-7 hour drive from Jersey :)

Based on what you are looking for, Dan, I recommend Beaufort, SC. It is near a very nice beach on Hunting Island, a very short drive from Beaufort. http://www.huntingisland.com/.
I spent many happy hours around there and at nearby Parris Island. Yes, that Parris Island ("We make Marines"). However my son is a graduate from there, not me. I was in the Army. However, I played a good deal of golf on Parris. They let civies in to play if one calls a day ahead of time and is able to present a photo ID. Nice course and reasonable.
Beaufort is a nice town and has a quaint old Southern waterfront. Smaller than Savannah, but quieter as well.
If you wanted to spend more, you could stay on Harbor Island nearby.
I see that P, my fellow American, may know about Beaufort.

Nothing is finer than sitting on the beaches of St. Simon's Island, GA as the sun starts to go down over the Live Oak trees.

Well, I'm not in NJ these days. I've been summering on Chincoteague Island. I'm headed to Va Beach to visit my Brother - retired Navy - on Friday, then maybe just amble on down the coast from there from Friday til whenever. It's just me, so I can always grab a room somewhere if I don't find a place I want to stay awhile the first night. Thanks all for the tips.

St. Simons island is wonderful. Hilton Head, as well, but it's very commercial now. Edisto Island is not commercial - that's the one closest to Charleston.
Hey, Dan, did you make it down to Frisco? Wahinis restaurant, by any chance?
F, my fellow patriot - yes, I am very familiar with the lowlands. Exquisite. May even move back there. P, your fellow American who only dislikes the mosquitoes and heavy air.
