Update: From Comments:
According to police reports, Boynton Beach police Officer Vincent Haugh pulled over the vehicle driven by 21-year-old Aaron Spoerke on North Federal Highway around 2:24 a.m. Wednesday after Haugh said he noticed Spoerke throwing a piece of paper out of the driver's side window of the vehicle.
Haugh said that when he approached the vehicle and asked the Spoerke for his driver's license, the 21-year-old could not provide one. Haugh said the three other men in the vehicle, Ray Kramer, 22, Kyle Koehler, 21 and Jonathan Geidel, 21, also could not provide identification.
When asked what the objects were, Spoerke told Haugh that the devices were pipe bombs used for his own amusement, Haugh said.
"I like to throw them into canals and watch them explode," Spoerke said, according to police.
According to police reports, Spoerke said he and Kramer went to a local gun store where they had purchased gun powder for the devices. He said he obtained fuses from a local fireworks store and PVC pipe from his job as a plumber.
Police said they also found masks and gloves in the car, as well as about 15 feet of PVC pipe in the trunk. Haugh said all of the men had their cell phones in water-proof plastic bags.
Tip from a reader - what is it with PVC pipe bombs all of a sudden? No idea if this is related to the Goose Creek incident. Four men with no ID, ages 21 - 22, names not released.
BOYNTON BEACH — What started as a traffic stop on a gold Nissan Sentra early this morning led to the discovery of two pipe bombs, masks and gloves and 15-feet of PVC pipe inside the car.
Boynton Beach police have detained the four men who were inside the car when Officer Vincent Haugh stopped it in on North Federal Highway around 2:24 a.m.
The sheriff's office bomb unit and ATF were notified and the road was closed off from the 500 block of N. Federal Highway to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The bomb unit confirmed the devices were pipe bombs and destroyed them at 5:26 a.m., and 5:34 a.m., police said.
One of the suspects told investigators they had been making pipe bombs, police said. Their motive was not known.

Looks like another false alarm. But good to see our LE is on their toes.

And I say false alarm...as in not ROPers, but definitely not choir boys either..

I don't think I could accept this as a coincidence in a novel, and I'm having a hard time accepting it in real life.

Spoerke, Kramer, Koehler, and Geidel. All German names.
Makes me wonder how pervasive the ROP is in the old Fatherland these days.

This is why we shouldn't give rednecks fishing licenses. ; )

The 500 block of N. Federal isn't exactly a redneck hangout and there aren't any canals in the area that might be considered remote enough to set off bombs in them without generating a lot of attention from the locals.
Perhaps not terrorists, but I'd bet they were tossing this stuff at people.

They were popped about 8 miles from my house.

Boys are, in total, a bunch of pyromaniacs.
Some take longer than others to grow out of it.

Four young men in a car at 2:24 a.m. Not one carrying a driver's license or other identification. Most of us have probably left home without our license/i.d., but all four of them at once?!? Oddly, they did manage to plan ahead enough to bring along masks, gloves, and cell phones placed in waterproof bags.

"Boys are, in total, a bunch of pyromaniacs.

So how many years are they getting in Gitmo? None?
Funny that.

I assume they are all being held in jail on $300 or $500K bond and that the FBI is searching their homes, right. That's what we do with people found acting suspicious and carrying pipe bombs, right?
Posted by: nowingker | Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 05:55 PM
They searched their apartment and found more pipe bombs and bomb making equipment.

While it is impossible to know at this point whether these men have anything to do with either Nazis or Islamists, alliances between the two groups have existed since at least the WWII period, and continue to this day.
More recently:
"For example, Aryan Nations leader August Kreis said of al-Qaeda earlier this year, "You say they're terrorists, I say they're freedom fighters. And I want to instill the same jihadic feeling in our peoples' heart, in the Aryan race, that they have for their father, who they call Allah." Going a step further, Kreis told CNN that he had a message for bin Laden: "The message is, the cells are out here and they are already in place. They might not be cells of Islamic people, but they are here and they are ready to fight." Source: David Gartenstein-Ross, Counterterrorism Blog.

Lets not forget Todd Vanbiber, the neo-nazi from florida who had one of the pipe bombs he was making blow up in his face back in the early 90s.
The cops found 14 pipe bombs and bomb making supplies, along with nazi and "National Alliance" memorabilia in his shed. He confessed to a plot to use the bombs to create a diversion while he and some friends robbed 2 banks. VanBiber was convicted and sentenced to over 60 years, but then ratted out some of his fellow nazis and got out early. He is out of prison now and still active in the neo-nazi scene.

I worked with Kramer for 2 years and i'm not all together surprised. I had heard him on several occasions make racial comments. I'm not saying he was an arian or neo-nazi but I remember him once talking to me about getting a gun permit.

Well, Aaron Spoerke was not driving the car, nor was he the one accused of throwing trash outside the car. I can attest to this, as I was on the jury for his trial that ended today. It was a very bad feeling that the law did not enable us to make the distiction of whether or not Aaron made those devices intending them as weopens or not. The fact, that was not argued enough by either side, was that they had no legitimate social or commercial value, leading us to have to define them as a weopon. Few of ubelieved that harm was intended with these, we all knew that these boys were up to no good that night. They had gloves (some in pockets) flashlights, knives, etc. But that was completely independant of the pipe-bombs. That he knowingly made them, that they cause damage, and that there was no legitimate social value led us to have no choice but to find guilty. Many of us wished that there was a distinction, room for speculation on intent, but there was not. It seemed very black and white. So, if any of you feel like playing with fireworks in a way not intended by the ATF, APA, or any other governmental agency, DON"T!!!! We cant help you or cut a break. That is the job of the judge to hopefully show mercy.

I know ray, trust me when i tell you, they were created as pyrotechnics(fireworks). And lee how could you sentence Aaron to 3 to 5 years in prison for making fireworks and blowing them up over water. they weren't meant to harm anyone. Yet we give killers, corrupt business men, and child rapists lesser punishment. You guys just don't want to see it through others views. Aarons life is over, he will never get a good job, he will always be tarnished with this. what if this were your son or daughter. hipocrats. And ray is not a racist, Im a true friend of his, and im black, so put all that racial talk to bed. The fact that i could lose a good friend because 12 idiots think that there were possibly bad intensions cause they had gloves, THEY'RE MECHANICS! and the mask is a painball mask. so stop talking what you don't know. Learn your facts before you talk.
