Now here's an interesting question, remember this link via Instapundit to an Amazon piece by John Barnes?
I think "Scott Thomas" is actually an MFA writing student, or a recent graduate of such a program, probably with some military experience – he may be serving in some non-combat specialty in Iraq – probably from one of the elite MFA programs, the twenty or so from which college creative writing faculty and small-press staff come disproportionately.
Whoa! That's Scott Beauchamp's wife fiancee, also an editor reporter at TNR. So, um, did Scott have a little help with his diary???
Hmm ... and someone was fired this morning, but not the wife?
It seems Scott Beauchamp is married engaged to Elspeth Reeve. A reporter researcher at TNR.
Reeve, BJ '05, earned degrees in magazine journalism and political science. From Atlanta, Ga., she received a certificate of merit for her article, "Behind the Bars." The article, which was printed in Vox, was part of a four-article series and examined the criminal justice system in the United States. Vox is an award-winning weekly city magazine that appears in the Missourian.
Upon graduation, Reeve interned at Time magazine and now works for the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C.

According to the wedding site, they're just engaged.

What are the real world consequences for TNR? After Stephen Glass and that other scandal which I can't recall offhand will the magazine survive?

She looks like a real a cutie... but that probably doesn't account for much, when folks deceived by their own self-perception of their genius get to shoveling crocks full of self-deluded pablum.
And beauty won't go too far in saving TNR's rep for publishing those same crocks.

nonsense. TNR will be fine: liberals never turn on their own. bubba disgraced the country, stole white house silverware, and got his stupid ass impeached; they still love him. william "c.h. cash" jefferson sold himself like a crack whore, got his stupid ass busted with $90K in cash; he's still collecting a government paycheck. alec baldwin proved to the entire world what a scumbag bully he truly is ("i beat the crap out of your mother, and i'll do it to you, you 13-year-old little sow!"), and yet the liberals choose not to crucify him in their pet media. ("nothing would be served by piling on a good and noble man like alec baldwin, who simply made a terrible mistake. besides, it's not like he's a republican!")
they're all in the *club*, you see. as is TNR.

Oh my, it would appear that bloodyass bob is upset. He has so much anger to vent and only 10 stubby digits to use to type. I would suggest watching some Fox footage of the bombing of Baghdad or the victorious carrier landing that the 'Decider' made to settle down a bit. Perhaps a few soothing words from fellow hero Terry Gain telling bloodyass how WE ALREADY WON in Iraq.
In the meantime, Let us commend bob for the hero and patriot that he is. Thank you for your service!!

Hmmmm.
What has my bells ringing is that TNR so far has said that they haven't found anything to **disprove** his allegations.
Disprove? What utter nonsense! Not finding anything to "disprove" a bunch of stupid idiotic claims does not actually **prove** them true.
Someone go to TNR and slap the hell out of them.

"WHEN SOCKPUPPETS ATTACK!!!"
yawn. well, chris/bob/dnc $6-an-hour sockpuppet, as i've pointed out with my stubby little fingers, asswipe beauchamp has written that iraqi police use glocks that fire "square-backed rounds".
no such weapon exists. no such bullet exists.
how's that, kiddies? care to comment on that "disproof"?

*rolls eyes*
Back to FAUX News with you guys, now. You'll be missing your nightly 'Fair and Balanced' DKos rant.
Seriously, the way you people completely gouge an American Soldier because he reports what you don't want to hear is disgusting. I pity the man who has to sift through Petreaus's email box if he doesn't give the most rosey of assessments come September.
No wonder no one gave a flip about Walter Reed on this site except to deride socialized medicine. No wonder no one raised a peep about Bush threatening a veto on troop pay raises because he thought .5% was more than they deserved.
Pathetic.

"I am Private Scott Thomas Beauchamp, a member of Alpha Company, 1/18 Infantry, Second Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division." Sounds pretty military to me. Calling this soldier a liar? Is that how you support the troops? http://www.tnr.com/blog/the_plank?pid=128957
"It's been maddening, to say the least, to see the plausibility of events that I witnessed questioned by people who have never served in Iraq." And that would include one hell of a lot of fat assed chickenhawks.

Perhaps the brave men and women of the 101st Keyboarding division would care to weigh in on Debts of Service.

Apparently, we're now billing troops for their equipment. Makes that signing bonus incentive look a little less appealing.
Posted by: IslamoLlama | Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 06:13 PM
Jeebus, but the lefty trolls on this site are stoo-pid. I'm glad that Beauchamp's unit "sounds military" to Bill Adkins-I guess that in and of itself is enough to confirm his outlandish claims.
Islamollama is another winner-if he'd care to look back at the actual posts made here about Walter Reed he'd see that I pointed out that what was going unacknowledged in all the brouhaha was that the Army was trying to do the right thing by keeping those GIs on active duty (and paying them) while they were undergoing treatment, as opposed to putting them out on a medical discharge with whatever pension they could get and leaving them to their own devices to get the treatment they needed from the VA. Also this week's Army Times points out that Harry Reid withdrew the military raise bill from the Senate. John McCain was quoted in that piece as saying that it wasn't the Republicans holding up next year's raises.
There's nothing unusual about having to pay for equipment you have signed for and cannot account for Llama boy, those of us who have actually been in the service understand accountability.

The point ya'll hippies are missing (when don'y ya'll miss the point!) is this:
We aren't mad that PVT Beauchamp diagrees with or has a different opinion about the war.
We simply dislike it when folks lie and try to pass it off as "journalism".
Come to think of it though, ya'll ain't very consistent either. I remember a certain corporal who was "outted" on account of he did gay porn a few years back. Yet, he repented of that sinful, wicked lifestyle... and turned out to be an exemplary soldier.
But you hippies sure wanted to skewer him alive for his decision to go straight, and support the war.
Heh. Hypocrites, indeed.

"Because it's been four years since he left the Middle East, Rodriguez's battalion was dissolved and his commanders are long gone. And despite repeated requests, the Army never could tell us what piece of equipment Rodriguez was billed for, nor would they get rid of the debt."
Funny that. Even the army can't figure out what they were billing him over. Harry Reid withdrew the entire Defense Budget from the Senate because the Republicans filibustered it. And I fail to see how "sparing" soldiers the horrors of a VA system that Republicans were in charge of administrating lets Republicans off the hook for their own incompetence. Accountability what now?
Posted by: IslamoLlama | Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 06:36 PM
C'mon Llama-the point is that they were getting regular pay for staying on active duty and that they weren't left to their own devices to arrange their care with the VA. You're not so thick that you can't understand that are you?
If Rodriguez thinks he isn't responsible for the debt then let him get his congresscritter to hash it out with the Army. The fact that the battalion's commanders are gone is irrelevant-the supply sergeant still has to clear the property books. The Pubbies didn't filibuster over the half a percent difference in the pay raise, let Reid introduce it as a seperate bill if he really feels strongly about it. He won't because he wants it as an issue to beat up the Pubbies with more than he wants to give troops a little more cash. And he knows dipwads like you will carry his water.

"care to weigh in on Debts of Service."
Yawn. Pretty much SOP since before WWII if you don't turn in everything you were issued or can account for it as destroyed in training/battle.
If you don't have a policy like this, gear and weapons tend to make their way onto the black market when troops need some spare cash.
If we weren't doing it, you'd be complaining about how a more liberal gear policy was fueling black market arms sales.

"i am former US army ranger jessie mcbeath and ah done seen sodjers kill baby eye-rackies an' EAT they BRAINS!!"
well, bill/chris/llama/sockpuppet dipshit, that one turned out to be a lie..... even though you idiot liberal clowns all stood by jessie (right up to the instant his childish, obvious lies were proven), and said you "loved the soldiers", etc etc. "look at what you neocon bastards have made poor jessie BECOME!", you moaned. remember?)
and now here you are doing the *exact same thing* for poor stupid s.t. shitwad. how deliciously ironic.
it's all gonna blow up in your sleek, earnest, overfed, self-satisfied, condescending shiny pink faces, liberals. *all over again*. **just like it did last time**.
it's already unraveling, losers. read around some. the guy's fiance is a TNR staffer: she helped him write it; he almost certainly jazzed it up under her supervision. he claims he saw "square-backed bullets". they don't exist. he claimed he ragged on an injured woman at mess .... "without knowing if she was a civilian contractor OR AN OFFICER." riiiight. (curiously, this woman can't be found or even remembered by anyone else.) he claimed they dug up a "children's cemetery" - odd that didn't make the news, ain't it? he claimed bradley drivers would see dogs to the right and squash them - seeing to their right seems to be physically impossible for bradley drivers.
and on & on & ON. his blog posts an entry for 8 may, in which he "smoked a haji amid electricity & H2O blackouts".
it seems he was stationed in, uh, "GERMANY" on 8 may.
oh, dear. you losers *might* wanna start your backtracking early. there'll be a huge rush soon.
