via a link from Instapundit Howie Kurtz questions if America is ready for a Black President and asks:
If voters are so color-blind, why have only two African-Americans since Reconstruction won governor's offices? And only three been elected to the Senate?
I agree with the thinking that people tend to tell pollsters what reflects well on them on a personal level, however, I think the numbers for elected Black officials at the Federal level would be at least slightly higher if many Black candidates weren't often very liberal and especially if Democrats didn't pull out all the stops to defeat them, including de-Blackening them as much as possible, when they dare to run as moderate or conservative Republicans.
Michael Steele comes very much to mind.

We have Governors that are Hispanic and Irish history Presidents.
Those who play the race card about black candidates are doing just that.
A qualified black candidate would has much chance as any other except for those narrow minds who have residual bias.
The operative word is qualified not just being a token candidate.

How many non-Blacks are elected in Black majority electoral districts?
