Wow, ambitious - but it makes sense. Someone with a camera followed a Google vehicle that also had a mounted 360 angle camera and discovered an entire fleet of the things - all brand new. Take Google Earth and make it so you can go down to street level and actually navigate to a destination, identifying telling landmarks along the way at particualr junctions and so forth, right at street level.

Heck, Google maps was cool even before this. And you're right about a time-waster. I get on there and 'travel' all over the place. It is way neat.
