In a post titled Credibility Explosion, Cernig from NewsHoggers takes exception to a report by Confederate Yankee on Iranian explosives being used in Iraq.
Confederate Yankee this morning has a picture provided by Multi-National Corps-Iraq which purports to be of Iranian explosives seized in Iraq.
The Yankee accepts this provenance without question, but I think there are good reasons to look twice at it. Not least that the picture's C-4 block looks uncannily like the standard US-military issue M-112 Demolition Charge.
Huh? Not only is there no image at Cernig's link, compare CY's image from MNC-I with this pdf.
Add to that, C-4 as manufactured, which is the actual explosive being traced, doesn't simply slip into what becomes an M-112:
Plastic explosives are frequently produced in block shape, which then need to be homogenized prior to being compacted into a molded explosive charge. C-4 explosive, for example, is produced in blocks which are not suitable for fabrication into an M-112 demolition charge. Transformation of the blocks has in the past entailed hand work, which necessarily is time consuming, expensive, and subject to quality inconsistencies.
That some so consistently pass off silly, uninformed and unsupported nonsense as scoops designed for no other purpose than to undermine our military's credibility as we face a dangerous enemy in Iran is hardly explosive news. Unfortunately, it could prove to be far more dangerous than any one IED, or block of C-4.

Cernig is a jackass.
