And make sure your elected representatives hear you! It's a bad bill. Enforcement, especially border security first ... then we can talk amnesty for all I care. Until then, patriotic Americans of every race or country of origin are foolish to support a bill that undermines the value of legal US citizenship. It's just that simple.
Showdowns were expected on Democratic efforts to allow more family-based immigration under the bill and more Republican proposals to make the path to legalization for illegal immigrants more burdensome.

I hope this is the issue that causes the destruction of the Democratic party. The anti war crowd needs to leave the Democratic party and go Green. The conservatives of the Republican party need to just vote Libitarian this election cycle to punish "our" leadership who have treated us so shabbily lately.
This country needs to shakeup our system it has become to complacent and corrupt. We have so many districts that are completely uncompetative. We need change and somebody needs to take the first step. Our choices have been the "least bad" instead of the "best of" for to long.

Of course it's a bad bill. There is no intention that it be a good bill. Your Congress just wants something passed in 2007 so it will be history before they campaign in 2008.
The alternates - doing nothing or passing a crap bill in 2008 - look even worse so they want to pass the crap bill in 2007.
Even if they intended to improve matters there is a fundamental problem. Enforcement costs money. If done well it really costs. But the other provisions: permissions, residency permits, stamping visas, not looking too closely at forged documents, etc. are administrative and cost little. What is pleasant and costs little will be funded. What takes hard work and money will not.
After the bill is passed the enforcement costs may be funded somewhat for a year as an illusion. Then funding will gradually be strangled. No money, no enforcement. They were never willing to fund enforcement of the 1986 law. This will be the same.

You freedom fighters should be nice to the immigrants. They are about all that is left to fight your silly, losing war. Remember what Kerry said...
Turn the corner, patriots!! The surge is working!!!

The Bill is doomed! Most bills go through in a haphazard form with the "kinks" to be worked out later. This Bill is too fragmented, frightening, and foolish to make it. The more debate on it the better and more debate means this chameleon will be seen for what it is---a mistake!

In another context (Libby) I wondered what Bush's Pardon List will look like.
Some scurrilous fellow replied, "12 million illegal aliens".

the democrat politicians may be objecting to a lack of so called "family based" issues. however, in my office the democrats are against it for the same reasons i am plus a few more. they are worried about job loss and lower wages. guess they aren't complaining loud enough for the press and polls.

Amazing. Our Senate now shows it doesn't even have the guts to surrender. They hide instead.
My take. The problem was the members in the House. They can't evade consequences like the Senators usually can. As Democrats in the House became aware of how mad voters were they quietly got the Senate to kill it using the Fillibuster/Cloture BS - that wonderful device that lets everyone deny responsibility.
