Pelosi's Sister Mary Elephant Moment?
Crushing of dissent?
After losing a string of embarrassing votes on the House floor because of procedural maneuvering, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has decided to change the current House Rules to completely shut down the floor to the minority.
The Democratic Leadership is threatening to change the current House Rules regarding the Republican right to the Motion to Recommit or the test of germaneness on the motion to recommit. This would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822.
In protest, the House Republicans are going to call procedural motions every half hour.

Oh this ought to be fun to watch...
Congress ain't gonna get NOTHING done until 2008, when the bonehead Dems get the boot (God willing).
Or Bush dissolves Congress and calls for a new vote. :)

Well, well, well, looks like the chickens are coming home to roost.
I seem to remember it was the Senate Republicans that tried to do away with the fillibuster only a few short years ago.
A few people made mention that it might be a bad idea since it was just slightly possible that the Republicans wouldnt' be the majority party forever and they might just possibly want to preserve the fillibuster in case the Dems ever got a majority.

This I think fits perfectly into that clause in the Constitution that gives the President power to adjourn Congress. If they are to busy fighting to get anything done and one side changes the rules to completely exclude the minority send them home for awhile.

Well, well, Mr. nowingker, and did the Republicans do away with the fillibuster, or not? That seems to be an important detail. And if they didn't, then how is this a case of "chickens coming home to roost"?
Your tail ought to get all twisted up trying to answer this question.

"I seem to remember it was the Senate Republicans that tried to do away with the fillibuster only a few short years ago."
Upperdown vote! Upperdown vote! Upperdown vote!
Why are Republicans afraid to vote on Democratic resolutions in Congress? Why do they need to resort constantly to procedural trickery? Surely, surely their positions aren't so unpopular that they are afraid to have their votes registered? Surely they don't hate the democratic system of government so much that they have grown fearful of majority rule? Do they think this is the Senate, where they can filibuster ad naseum?
And yet from the minimum wage to the Iraq War resolutions to lobbying reform, Republicans have been dogmatic in throwing gears in the machinery, hoping to run the clock out on their opponents and claim victory through inertia.
That said, after the '06 elections, I'm amazed any Republican would have the balls to call for new elections. After failing to pick up a single seat and dozens of incumbants, it would be incredibly entertaining to watch Republicans go through it all again. But if we do hold new elections, I don't suppose we'll get to re-vote for President? Let's put GW's name back up on that ballot and see how long he lasts.

Don't worry Zifnab we will just steal the elections ag... oh thats right now that the Dems are in power all that talk about the machines being rigged just up and disappeared didn't it. The Republicans are just doing the same thing that the Dems did and now the Dems don't think its fair. Your guys double standards are just pathetic.
And by the way I don't think we are calling for new elections we just want to send them to time out till they can play nice.

Bush could also just veto every single thing they do that doesn't have input from Republicans. He could go on National TV and explain why he was going to do it and then let the Dems just twist because they would never get a veto over ride. That would be fun to.

Ain't it just like a woman...... I love it.
Nowinger - everyone should be obsessed with voter fraud.

Um... no they didn't. There are a number of elections, one in Katherine Harris's old district for instance, in which the electronic voting ballots simply failed outright in heavily Dem districts.

But yes, nowingker brings up an excellent point. Didn't they just can, like, eight USAs for not pleasuring the President with enough voter fraud cases? Strange that conservatives would now be claiming that voter fraud isn't an issue.

Uh no brain, how many Dems were convicted of voter fraud? BTW Ziftard, make sure you deliberately leave out how voting problems IN DEM CONTROLLED/RUN DISTRICTS WERE CAUSED BY THE DEMS, DUMBASS!
You mental patients and your conspiracy theories. You'll concoct any story no matter how insane to avoid facing reality

Is it not just amazing how for the 2000 and 2004 election cycle the Dems just went nuts over voter fraud. Now, however they think that it is beyond the pale that Bush fires 8 political appointees (who he can fire for no reason at all) because he feels that they aren't investigateing voter fraud enough to suit him. The sheer audacity of you guys saying that boggles the mind. You guys have got to have split personalities to be able to say some of the things you do and not just freeze up from the illogic of it.

"Bush could also just veto every single thing they do that doesn't have input from Republicans."
Somehow, I am not confident that Bush will have the wherewithal to consistently veto things like that. Some of us are a little concerned that he won't veto that new "hate crimes" legislation that would effectively silence ministers in their pulpits from preaching against the homosexual lifestyle, as it would be considered "hate speech". Supposedly, such a convicted minister could stand to have his church loose tax exempt status or even have his church closed down for propagating "hate speech"...
...that will make the anti-Christian left happier than a pile of pigs in a mud puddle.
but if we even suggest monitoring Islamist moosques that have substantial funding from anti-American Islamist sources... oh my!
Posted by: seekeronos | Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 11:47 PM
Somehow, seek, this new hate crime law won't be enforced in the Mosques and black churches.
But ultimately, these kinds of laws are helpful, as they will finally get people to understand the totalitarian aspects of the Left and the Democratic Party. I figure we will have to shut this country down before all is done, and we have the power to do just that. It will be a great day.
