I've read the basics of the military's new restrictions on military blogs but haven't read around for reactions. The story is here, reactions here and milblogger Black five weighs in here.
The Bottom-Line to the this bad piece of regulation: The soldiers who will attempt to fly under the radar and post negative items about the military, mission, and commanders will continue to do so under the new regs. The soldiers who've been playing ball the last few years, the vast, VAST, majority will be reduced. In my mind, this reg will accomplish the exact opposite of its intent. The good guys are restricted and the bad continue on...
Operational Security is of paramount importance. But we are losing the Information War on all fronts. Fanatic-like adherence to OPSEC will do us little good if we lose the few honest voices that tell the truth about The Long War.
Good points but with the battlefield information flow being higher than it ever has been in the past, for all their hard work the "good guys" haven't produced results because of neglect by the MSM and the military is wrestling with a difficult topic. Ultimately, our troops have enough to do, they shouldn't have to worry about winning the information war. The better point might be to criticize the military administration for their efforts, or at least suggest they re-think whatever it is they've been doing.
Any closing down of milblogs when operational security issues aren't involved is a bad thing as it takes away from discussion. But I want the Pentagon to concentrate on winning the information war, not the troops on the ground who have more than enough to do already.

"Operational Security is of paramount importance."
Please go back in time and tell that to Geraldo Rivera.

Call me crazy but something tells me that 'operational security concerns' are not the real reason for the kabosh on military blogging.
Something tells me the reason for the kabosh on blogging is because most of the bloggers are not sending the message about how successful the war is and that's why, if the overwhelming majority of bloggers were sending the message the WH wanted to hear there would be no security concerns.

Call me crazy
Crazy and ignorant, obviously you dont' read them. But then why should you as liberals mostly hate and don't support the troops to begin with.

They aren't getting out the unrealistic good news they were told to.

BarHag is such a tool it astonishes. "They aren't getting out the unrealistic good news they were told to.?" Clearly this jackalope has never served, and yet (s)he has "an opinion" on matters military. Sort of "chickenhawk" in reverse, wherein a total buffoon feels free to inflict his assininity on Dan's audience. The mentality needed to view our troops as a mass and then dismiss them is sweeping in its offensiveness.
I am sure his lover/skirt ZifKnob (noted racist/homophobe) is slapping itself silly in glee that it has another bootlicking sycophant.

But I'm sure BarHag "supports the troops"

I for one applaud this move. There are enough 4th rate blogs as it is (this one included). There is only so much time in the day to have a laugh.
The SURGE is WORKING! Keep up the good work!!

I feel sorry for the troops who use email and blogs to keep 'close' with family and friends. It's amazing what a morale boost it can be to 'talk' online and to laugh and feel close to home.
I'm thinking circling the wagons around the blogs is more for safety than anything else. It would be cruel and unusual punishment to shut them down unless some kind of security breach put the soldiers at risk. It's a bummer.

i hate to be all cynical & all, but i gotta think that MAYBE when 95% of the milblogs rip on harry reid's treasonous statements of late as "reid's treasonous statements", i BET their bosses get furious calls from reid and his fellow dems.
"shut them up!!" comes the (typically liberal reaction to criticism) command from **members of the majority party in both the house and senate; the guys who approve the funding for the military**
liberals HATE criticism. which is why it's ALWAYS a bad idea to let them get in power. following the example of their idol, stalin, they immediately commence silencing their enemies.

One can only scratch one's head in wonder at the BoobinBridgeport. He claims this is a fourth rate blog but seems to spend most of his time here. If he comes here for laughs, he sure gets them. Of course most of them are at his expense.

BB,
Hats off to you. I never thought a thing about what you said, and it makes perfect sense.
I love listening to you guys. Clearly, I am not a linear thinker, so you all are good for me. :}
