The mayor and assembly speaker of Los Angeles are joining illegal aliens in street protests to denounce the police and complain about police denying illegal alien's the ability to claim their rights. And some thought it was a big deal the first time LA Law was cancelled.
LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez are expected to join immigrant-rights protesters Thursday at a rally denouncing police behavior during a May 1 immigration rights rally.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a town hall-style meeting at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, located at Wilshire Boulevard and Berendo Street, followed at 6 p.m. by a 10-block procession to MacArthur Park, where organizers will hold a candlelight vigil and a series of performances.
"The LAPD denied our community both a political and physical space to nonviolently claim our rights to legalization for all undocumented immigrants and a fair immigration reform for the country," said the event's organizer, Mexican American Political Association President Nativo Lopez. "Political leaders and organizations throughout the country stand solidly with us."
Update: Hugh Hewitt has numbers and multiple links to try and stop Republicans from caving on immigration in DC. They had better figure out they are toast if they do this. Michelle has several links, as well.
despite the obvious anger in the ranks of the party's base, this bill will move quickly unless stopped immediately. Call 202-225-3121 and ask for the offices of Mitch McConnell, Trent Lott or Jon Kyl, the three leaders of the GOP in the upper chamber. Surrendering half the fence is the first step in surrendering half the seats they are trying to defend in '08, and Gordon Smith, Norm Coleman, John Sununu and others ought to be demanding the caucus stop this national security and political insanity. The Senate GOP can and should filibuster any bill that dismantles half the fence before it was built, and any bill that is vague on the details of amnesty-lite.

What would be fun to watch is if the LA police just went on strike for a few days. Just called a press conference at say 11:55 am and said " As of 12:00 noon today we will be on strike until such time as we get some support." How long do you think it would take before the riots would start? It would take atleast one to two whole days to get any National Guard troops in there. If they wanted Bush to help it would be even more fun to watch him say something along the lines of not being able to use regular army troops in the US.
Never happen I know, but it is what those libs deserve. Angry mobs of the urban poor they created.

As an LA resident, I can tell you that Villaregosa is pandering to his Latino base. As is common for this type of demonstration, the crowd was littered with shit disturbers who had nothing to do with may day or immigrant rights. They started the problem, which caused the cops to advance to break up the crowd. Then the media moves forward to capture the drama and SURPRISE they are knocked over when they refuse to move back.
I don't know about you anarchists out there, but when a cop tells me to move back, I do so. I teach my kids to respect their authority and comply. If you refuse, you might get hurt or arrested. Not so difficult to understand.
Villaregosa is an idiot. He will alienate his real base, which is the cops, firefighters and first responders, plus us regular citizens who see through the cloud of bullshit that the media has put up over this non-event. He'll be gone at the end of this term.

National Guard troops? They are all over in Iraq losing that war.

I'm sure the Latino gangs would be happy to step up and fill the void Zifnab.

L.A. is now the second largest city of Mexico. It should be run as a city of Mexico. It will be within five years.
As the era of American occupation fades President Hillary should annoint G.W. Bush as our Honorary Good Will Bigshot (GHWB)* to facilitate the transition. It would be a fine bipartisan gesture.
*yeah, I know the intitials don't sequence, but close is good enough for government work.

DATELINE: 22 August 2021
Fénix, Estado de Guadalupe, Imperio Aztlan (formerly Phoenix, AZ, USA)
Today, Imperator Cuahaltumec II arrived to receive the instrument of surrender from Life President Hillary R. Clinton. The Imperator stated that all Anglo-Saxon inhabitants would be treated fairly and equitably under Aztlan law. Some concern was expressed about the POW and slave labour that was impressed from the civilian Anglo population of Fénix to build the Templo de Quetzalcoatl upon the ruins of the University of Arizona, but the Imperator stressed that the POWs would be repatriated as soon as the remaining US forces withdrew from the former states of Colorado, Nebraska, and portions of Wyoming as described in the Guadalupe Treaty II.
Mexican President Jorge Bush II was on hand to officiate the handover of sovereignty from the USA to the Imperio Aztlan, as was Pope Peter II Romanus.
Imperator Cuahaltumec II expressed hopes of putting down the rebellion in former American state of Utah, currently facing a stiff resistance from Mormon freedom fighters. The Aztlan Stretic Rocket Forces is expected to begin another round of chemical missile strikes on Salt Lake City to assist the Jaguar Corps in cleansing the city from Mormon resistance.
