Well, this really isn't very democratic, especially for an organization calling itself the DNC.
the cease-and-desist letter from an attorney representing the DNC to Free Republic.
Instapundit has a podcast on these types of libel claims at his post: POWERLINE TO THE DNC:
So sue us! "We therefore associate ourselves with our reader's statements regarding Governor Dean and invite Mr. Sandler to sue us for defamation as he threatens to sue Free Republic. This is to put him and his client on notice, however, that we intend to seek our attorney's fees under federal law for the assertion of a frivolous claim if he does so."
It seems to me that more people are trying to silence bloggers all of a sudden. Well, they told me that if George W. Bush were reelected, people who criticized the powerful would suffer. And they were right!
I posted on it at the time - is this DNC discrimination, or did the question mark get me off? What about the two blogs that track backed my post and the twenty something others I found in a few minutes? Come on, DNC - play fair. Be democrats and try and sue the long tail!

Attaboy.
Defend blatant lying.
Proud of it, even.
Why am I not surprised.

If a blog is only doing analysis of something in the public domain then they are held harmless.
Their only risk is if they make something out of whole cloth.
Joe Bloe obviously doesn't get the difference.

Joe Bloe,
So, does the RNC and President Bush get to sue every Democrat in Congress over their seemingly endless assertion that "Bush Lied"?
How about suing CBS "News" for the Rather-gate "memos" before the 2004 election (proportional font, my ass)?
Why not sue John F'ing Kerry over HIS assertion that Nixon sent him into Cambodia (before he even took office); Oh wait, Kerry said THAT insident was "seared in his head".
Hell, I want to sue the entire Democrat Party for their continuing assertion that Republicans are "mean spirited", and that they want to "cut" this program, or that program (when the amount of money being spent on EVERY program has gone UP year after year, after year).
Perhaps we could just sue Harry Reid for HIS assertion that "the war is lost" (isn't THAT defamation of each and every serviceman and woman in uniform?).
But, getting back on topic (the Kansas disaster) - I think Barack Obama should be sued for HIS statement that 10,000 have died. That FALSE statement was, clearly, designed to fan the flames of hatred for the Bush Administration (so, that makes his statement a "hate crime", doesn't it?).
No, Joe Bloe, you're right, the above is CLEAR EVIDENCE that Democrats NEVER lie, so it stands to reason that Governor Sebelius and Governor Dean MUST be telling the truth...
I say, bring on the lawsuit... Personally, I've LOVE to see Howard Dean's telephone records (of course they will be made public, because they are a material FACT in the assertion that the phone call from Dean to Sebelius did [or did not] take place). Hell, there's NOTHING preventing Howard Dean from releasing his phone records NOW (before a lawsuit) to PROVE he never made the call in question, can't he (we're waiting, Howard).
On second thought, let's wait until he's put under oath (asserting that the call never took place) - THEN we can thow Dean in jail (right next to "Scooter" Libby) for perjury.

Joe, believe me, there's no future in fluffing for the DNC.

The longer you guys keep making up crap only to have it debunked hours later, the further your already discredited party will fall into irrelevancy. By all means, carry on.

GOP8_DOA,
Nice name. Has this story been debunked yet? No.

"Governor Sebelius issued the following statement in reply: "I am outraged that the Quinn & Rose show has aired a report suggesting that my efforts to highlight the need to replace National Guard equipment lost in Iraq are inspired by anything other than my responsibilities as commander-in-chief of the Kansas National Guard. The accusation that I received a call from anyone, encouraging me to take on this issue following the devastating tornado in Greensburg, is one-hundred-percent false -- period."

Oh yes it has. But that's beside the point at this rate.

Sebelius is punching waaaayy above her weight. Caught by her own stupid half-truths and twisted lies. Why doesn't she start dating Howard out in the open instead of the secret phone calls?

The Libs are very loose with the terms lie, liar, lied, etc. They want to call every misstatement, typo, unsubstantiated story, mistaken belief a lie. The reason for this is they utter so many lies so often themselves. Thus, if a mistake is also a lie, which really and only means a statement uttered by one who knows it is untrue, lying isn't so bad. But lying is much worse than making a mistake. Joe, I guess you have been shown by several responders above from whence you can Bloe it out.

I have noticed that no one involved in this story has released their phone records for the time in question. If they wanted to end this that would be a good way to end it. I wonder why they haven't.

It would be nice it the DNC defenders around here would defend the specifics of the post, namely, the fact that DNC lawyers are threatening to sue people based on the fact they repeated what someone else said.
Do you really want to be associated with that?

It was not a "misstatement, typo, unsubstantiated story, mistaken belief". It was a blatant lie, made up of whole cloth
An increasing percentage of the American people are becoming convinced that this is simply standard operating procedure for Republicans. One might imagine that you guys would have an interest in countering this growing perception. It really isn't all that hard to do. Just walk the walk - stand up for the truth, especially when those on your side violate it.
But no. Your instincts are to protect your allies more than to stand up for honesty. That is the road you have walked down with this administration for years now, so no, I am not surprised by the stance you take now.
If ever there was a movement deserving of exile to the political wilderness, its yours. My guess is that it will take an entirely new generation of conservatives, with no ties to the moral compromises of this era, before your ideology makes some headway back into the mainstream.

"It was not a "misstatement, typo, unsubstantiated story, mistaken belief". It was a blatant lie, made up of whole cloth"
If you are right, it is EXACTLY like the governor's statement that, becuase of the war, they didn't have enough NG troops or equipment to handle the crisis, or Rathergate. I didn't hear much on the left excoriating Sebelius or Dan.
So back to the actual story. Do you agree with the DNC suing websites who repost what other people have alleged?
Posted by: TomB | Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 03:01 PM
And you know that this story is an absolute lie how Joe Blow? I mean none of the parties involved has released their phone records for the time. Remember we are talking about some very narrow time frames here, it should be easy for Dean and the Govenor to show that no phone call took place.
Secondly the two people who broke this story are standing by their source who they say is very reliable. Does this mean that from now on anytime a reporter uses an unnamed source we know that they are telling a lie Joe Blow? Or is it just because you don't like conservatives and are willing to over look everything that the Dems do? Nice double standard Joe.
Posted by: southdakotaboy | Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 04:20 PM
Joe Bloe, you are using a new moniker but you have used other monikers here and are pretending to be someone new. That makes you a liar.
Posted by: Fred Beloit | Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 10:05 PM
Now, TomB, I think it is terrible that the DNC should try to intimidate bloggers with lawsuits, though it is the Democrat thing to do. They don't want the Government to listen in when Mullah Omar makes a phone call to an American, but they don't like free speech at all. Fortunately, they won't get away with it. It seems their legal bulldog has no teeth.
