Well, that's where they are heading, formally, or not. So, let's get it over with. As history now has absolutely no context, let the first man, or woman, to quote Lincoln go down. And please let us not forget Representative Keith Ellison who had the audacity of non-hope to take his oath on a koran once owned by a former slave owner. I believe Thomas Jefferson was his name.
"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything."

"As history now has absolutely no context,..."
Well, you sure picked a nice quotation to demonstrate how hatespeak works without context.
Who was the white sports pundit who got fired for saying black people were built to run or jump... that they had superior leg muscles? And the nappy-headed shows go on....... and on........ Screw Abe, eh?

i don't understand. i thought liberals say they're FOR free speech. that the only people who try to pass laws governing speech and make words, thoughts, and ideas illegal were godless totalitarian control-freak asshole fascists.

It is well known that Lincoln accepted the view that the US would not become an integrated society. Most social science of his day contended there were substantial and permanent racial differences in intelligence and temperment and anatomy and sometimes morality. Scientists had different explanations of why. We know now that they were making fundamental errors and finding what they expected to find.
Lincoln was a lawyer and quite a successful one. In his work he showed a strong tendency to not go beyond what could be proved. As a politican he also moved cautiously.
This quote, from a debate, shows him dealing with two arguments made by Douglas: First; that more-or-less anything could be done to a slave if state law permitted it. Secondly; freeing slaves must lead to a rather mad chaotic society akin to chimps playing with revolvers.
For those who demand perfection history, not economics, is the dismal profession.

Phoenix, I think the sports commentator was known as Nick the Greek. Don't think he was the original Nick the Greek, however.

He was Jimmy the Greek. Not Nick.

Here's Jimmy the Greek.

This is a really good article on this subject. History just keeps on repeating itself. Just like the Kentucky Derby.

Good article, Nova. Sad, too.
This made me sick: " Jesse Jackson met with Snyder to receive a highly publicized confession of error."

I've said this befor we on the right need to just stop taking these charges of racism to heart. What we need to do is just ridicule them. The lefties will make this charge no matter what we say or do. It is their default fall back position. For people on the left the motto is " When in doubt call 'em racist". The sooner we wise up to this and just not let it get to us anymore the better off we will be. When speaking on tv our guys need to be almost rude in dismissing these guys when the say these things. When they say "Your a bigot" we say "And Your mother is ugly". Give it right back to them.

Wow. SDB - that is the most cogent comment (of many) that you've made. You are exactly right. Ridicule the ridiculous. Throw it right back in their faces. Political correctness has taken the fight out of us, and it's high time we took it back.
My hat is off to you.

The question is Phoenix, how do we get our leaders on the right to wake up to this fact? Until they start we are always going to have that deer in the headlights look when this charge is made.
All of us at this site know people like bobinstamford and kelvin are racist but they and their leaders have somehow defined us as the racists. It really is depressing that the left can get away with this and are aided by the msm.

All it will take is ONE person taking a stand. It will be like The Wave at a football game. We'll all pile on and take back 'correctness' and leave out the 'political'.
Sad irony, but Bush does it. He does by ignoring it, though, and that does us no good. Just once, just once in front of cameras, I wish the guy would just say - "Kiss my ass." Or better - he could pull us out of the World Bank for what they've done to Wolfowitz and *really* make a statement. We support that stupid, poorly run place. Same with the UN. If Bush would just take a stand and flip off everyone, it would change the whole stupid PC world. Not because HE did it so much, but that it would give us all the fight to get back into it. In that respect, he disappoints me. But, I know he has to play all these stupid games. I even think Imus could have done it if he'd not caved to Sharpton and that stupid coach - who actually could have changed the landscape of victimhood-embracing herself. But she didn't. She taught those girls she coaches that being a victim is the way to get 'whitey'. Stupid, low-class woman.
(This is a rant. :)

I hear you Phoenix. We need to stop eating our own when they do take a stand though. Case in point Ann Coulter and the whole gay joke thing. She didn't get nearly the support she needed. That would have been a good place to start and she would have taken the ball and run with it.

This may start a real backlash against hip hop "artists".
