I'm moving and said so long for a bit here. Maintaining the blog isn't going to be my first priority in settling in. But access in the old house didn't go down when it was set to. When that will happen, who knows? But tomorrow late afternoon at the latest is certain. I'll leave this at top in case I can't get back on when I'm here and put up a few timely items below. Thanks.

Until that time, Dan. Until that time. Yes, I am a fan of "Soldier in the Rain" too.

Well, Dan, I hope you are taking my advice and moving to a smaller city in a Red State. Hahaha. If not, feel free to visit as much as possible, and if you ever feel like making a trip to the barren plains of W. Texas, let me know.
Till then, or when you blog again......Happy Trails!

I live in horse country SW of DC. We have really rich people and rednecks. Today I was in town and was stopped behind an SUV with patriotic stickers all over the back, and on the trailer hitch was a fish. Its mouth was stuffed open down onto the round ball of the hitch and its tail wiggled. It looked like a rainbow trout. It was big and electrified to wiggle when the driver put on the brakes. Then I got behind a little piece of junk that had a plastic set of pink scrotal balls hanging from its bumper. You should move here, Dan. :) Forget that old barren, dusty Texas....... No balls or fish.

Dan don't listen to them South Dakota is the place to be. We have it all: dust, snow and rain. Plus at no extra charge we throw in bitter cold, blazing heat and all the tornadoes you can dodge. Did I mention the mud? Let me tell you about the mud, oh wait I was trying to get you to come here wasn't I ?

Yesterday my wife and I drove to Eastern Market on Capitol Hill in Wash. D.C. At around 9am on a Sunday morning I saw a cop write jay walking tickets on 2 young guys who walked across Pa. Ave in the middle of the block. DC has a big crackdown on jaywalkers since there have been several pedestrian deaths recently. 3 were killed by bus drivers who ran over pedestrians in the crosswalks and the walkers had the walk sign but the bus drivers ran over them anyway. So now police are spending their time writing jay walking tickets. This in a city with a high crime rate. There was no traffic on Pa. Ave at 9am on Sunday morning but the police ticketed those 2 guys anyway. Talk about screwed up allocation of resources.
Good luck Dan wherever you are moving to.

besides, Texas ain't what it once was. all the losers from michigan and massachusetts who moved down - and then of course went into state & local government - (the "bush" family comes to mind) have pretty much succeeded in turning my glorious home state into just another connecticut. if the men from even just 40 years ago could see what's been done to the magnificent state of Texas...they wouldn't weep. (these were *men* from 40 years ago, mind) no, they'd just break out the horsewhips & get busy.
too late, now. the flood of yankees & wetbacks has doomed it. try wyoming, maybe. or idaho. but better hurry: the californians are doing the devil's work, *there*, too.
many thanks for the blogging, dan. best wishes & good luck. you too, phoenix. and all y'all other good folks, too.
you america-hating liberals can go piss up a rope.
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Monday, May 21, 2007 at 03:01 PM
i find it funny that the man who criticized "yankees", "wetbacks", and "californians" accuses others of hating america.
Wetbacks? What racist drivel, I doubt you'd have the balls to say that in front of a real hispanic. You know that cowboy culture of texas that you so love? Came from hispanics. But go on being a chump, posts like yours only prove that the wingnutosphere is the last haven for the biggots.
Posted by: LOL | Monday, May 21, 2007 at 03:08 PM
LOLly, old girl, i grew up on the mexican border. so i've *forgotten* more about hispanic 'culture' than you ever learned from the movies and teacher's dogma.
one little thing you don't know, LOLly - one thing among SO many - is that mex-americans here in the US legally HATE the illegals. can't stand 'em; view them as thieving leeches; and refer to them as "wetbacks".
dipshit.
does that make THEM "biggots", TOO?? this is a tough question for you, ain't it, LOLly: teacher told you to NEVER criticize non-caucasians, and here they are being all racist & shit, and using "biggotted" hate speech. why don't you go read a book or watch a movie, and see if you can't think up an answer.
oh, and one other thing: you know that 'cowboy culture' you like to sneer at, as you sip your $5 lattes and think yourself sophisticated and intelligent? while getting deeper and deeper in debt? it didn't "come from" los mojados: we TOOK IT. along with the whole damn state. the tragedy is, lightweight pussies like you are so intent on pleasing teacher and giving it back.
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Monday, May 21, 2007 at 03:20 PM
....yeah, bb, and you wouldn't have the balls to say that in front of a real hispanic....and my daddy can beat up your daddy....and blah...and blah......
bb, you nailed it, man. But here in Texas is still better than 90% of the country, but my wife and I just bought 5 acres in Tumbling Shoales, Arkansas on the Little Red River. That's a trout fishing haven. That is where we intend to retire. As for now, we just love vacationing there.
P.S. LOL had problems with the rope.

Idaho, Oregon (not Portland) or WA (not Saettle) would be on my list if the job market were a bit better.

*Seattle, I meant. Although I might stop in to buy saltwater fish on occassion. :)
Posted by: seekeronos | Monday, May 21, 2007 at 10:41 PM
you must really need me to be a serious loser to feel better about yourself bb. You spend half your post making up facts about my life as if they are true. Again, you wouldn't say "wetback" to their face, just like you wouldn't sign up to fight in iraq. These are facts that are true, unlike your specious drivel.
I'm sorry if my elite tone conjures image of educated coffee shop elitists (and that elitism threatens you) but maybe you stop being an ignorant and provincial social reject. I'm sorry that high society and educated folks have rejected you. But seriously, you need to scroll back your hatred of so many Americans (what's the list up to now? "wetbacks", yankees, academia, latte drinkers, californians, democrats, that's over half the country now). If you're going to continue living the facade of being a sucessful patriotic America-loving man, then you need to scale back the hatred. Because all that hate just makes you look like a bitter, ignorant social retard.

wow. even as 'riehl world view' rides off into the sunset, LOLly the halfwit liberal tries desperately to get the last word in: following the liberal playbook one last time. complete with wild, arrogant assumptions of the divine superiority of the liberal goodness she so eagerly lapped up back in school; sneering condescension towards the unwashed rubes who dare to stray from the authorized party line; etc etc.
just like old times. in LOLly's defense, at least she managed not to misspell too many 5-letter words in this latest screed, in which she laughably claims intellectual superiority over anyone teacher defined as a "reddnekk". (not too many "biggotts" at the ol' latte shop today, huh?)
hmmm. letting LOLly get the last word in would be a horrible denouement (look it up, LOLly) for this most worthy blog - a repudiation (look it up, LOLly) of everything it ever said. so to hell with THAT!
try as you might to copy down impressive-sounding words and phrases form the web, LOLly, your half-baked "ideas" identify you for what you are and - sadly - will probably always be: a racist, condescending, elitist, slogan-chanting shit-for-brains liberal without a clue.
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 02:26 AM
Let's keep this thread open until Dan gets back online. That way Dan will eventually get the last word as he deserves it for running such a cool blog. Plus I hate the feeling of abandoning all my buddies here.
Someone pick an open-thread topic that doesn't have anything to do with politics. :)
Posted by: Phoenix | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 09:54 AM
Gotta love LOL, eh?
"I'm sorry if my elite tone conjures image of educated coffee shop elitists (and that elitism threatens you) ..."
Did you rehearse that in front of a mirror for a half-hour with a faked Brit accent? If ya gonna do it, you might as do it right, and try to sound convincingly "superior" in your delivery.
The self-deluded elitist latte-sippers vs. the down-to-earth people who know how to drive truck or a car with a manual transmission.
Gee, I wonder which of the two will tend to survive the longest when martial law is declared, the second civil war is underway, and all those fresh new arriving gangsters and thugs from south of the border come to rape and pillage whitey when the food runs out when the food runs out, the water is cut off, and the gas pumps are empty under Empress Hillary I's tender loving motherly care...
Who will know how to man an M-60 or a SAW or shoot down starving gangs of war-ragged young men out looking for your food (and maybe a good time with your wife and children)...?
Who will know how to dress a freshly killed doe or skin and clean a possum or raccoon from a trap when the stores are guarded by UN solidiers or the Red Chinese Army which was sent in by the UN to supress the food riots in American cities after Iranian or Paki (suitcase?) nukes decimate our farmlands?
I betcha the latte sipping liberals won't... last long or they just might find themselves thinking more conservatively at that point.
Tell ya what, LOLster... if or when the balloon goes up, (more like "when", if Hillary or Silky Pony Boy get elected) I'd rather be in the hills next to someone like BB or Templar Knight than getting herded into cattlecars to be forcibly relocated to "re-education centres" like some of you libs just might be surprised to find yourselves in.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 10:22 AM
Thanks, seek, and I wouldn't mind sharing a foxhole with you or bb, either. LOL would be likely to shoot someone in the back. I would never trust a liberal with anything important, much less my life.
It always amazes me when I see the bigotry of liberals like LOL on display. The hypocrisy of these people who call themselves liberals is unbelievable. They are anything but "liberal". Totalitarian is a better moniker.

I see that you are enlisting to join the global war on terror. Best wishes on 'smoking out' the evil-doers and liberating godless brown people. The SURGE is WORKING.

And thank you, Bob! The cattle car engineers thank you for donating your lard ass as fuel.
Posted by: Phoenix | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 11:37 AM
Haha, never said I was a latte-drinker (I don't even drink coffee), but the fact that you losers need to continue to indulge in that fantasy is just too much. And then the action-movie fantasy of seekeronos is priceless. Do you save the girl at the end too?
Anyone who reads seekeronos' post can see that he lives, like so many of the rest of you, in a fantasy world of delusional machismo. But yes, keep telling yourself that you're manly and courageous simply because you're Republican.
Posted by: LOL | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 04:14 PM
Laughing Idiot, seek is manly and courageous because he is manly and courageous. Being or not being a Republican has nothing to do with it. You must be gay. Gay men like to try and disparage anything manly and courageous, which is the opposite of what they are.
Posted by: templar knight | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 04:56 PM
Nah, LOLster... no unrealistic machismo fantasies on my end. Chances are pretty likely that the ATF or the QVC or whatever new alphabet soup Big Brother agencies the Dems want to create will have already hosed me down for believing in the Son of God rather than the Great Rational Diety of Science and Liberalism (TM) long before I get to skinning rock badgers and eating possum soup while mourning over the irradiated heartland.
I'm actually quite serious: if the past 7+ years of Bush have been a "gentle slide down into the deeps" then any unitary government run by y'all liberals (especially of the KosKidz stripe) would be an rocketsled into hellfire by comparison.
Give Hillary or Silky Pony four years, either of them will do far worse with this nation than ten more years of Bush could ever hope to do (granted, Bush could have done much better in some areas, IMHO)
That's why if that if the pretty boy or the wicked witch wins in 2008, I'm keeping my options open for getting out of dodge when society starts falling to pieces: if the country has officially gone down the crapper, then it behooves me all the more to protect mine own since the "state" will have failed me.
Posted by: seekeronos | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 05:16 PM
A topic not related to politics? That is impossible here. I have seen the most non political subject made political right away on here. But then arent all subjects political? And when I say political the liberal versus conservative seems to be the only game they know how to play. At least the French have a right and a left.
Posted by: nova | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 08:41 PM
ha ha... Nova, I was just laughing at how fast things turn to doo-doo on these threads. Can you imagine some fantasy situation where all of us were dressed up and in a party situation - not knowing anyone. There'd be a food fight within ten minutes. 'Duck...here comes another canape!' ZZZchwing.....
Posted by: Phoenix | Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 09:39 PM
better start packing your bags and selling off the rest seeker. Though it's far out to say, it doesn't look like the Republicans will have a good 2008.
As for your insane predictions about Edwards or Hillary infringing people's civil rights, that's just absurd. You sound like a parody of right-wing extremism -- "Great Rational Diety of Science". Again, your Son of God theory's proof rests upon the writings of people who believed things like the earth was flat. Science has proven itself time and again. You know when you log on to your PC to reply to this post, you are unwittingly bowing down to that "Diety". It's sad that you can't see the pathetic irony of your own existence.
Posted by: LOL | Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 04:21 PM
So science is your "Diety", huh LOL? Somehow figures. And I suppose Bill Clinton never violated anyone's rights, either. Yeah, right.
"It's sad that you can't see the pathetic irony of your own existence".
No, it's pathetic that you see yourself as nothing more than an animal, a cousin of a monkey, if you will. But your day will come, when you stare death in the face. I'd love to see who you would call out for. Your cousin, the monkey, or God. I think we all know the answer to that question. Now that will be IRONY! I sincerely hope you remember the words you posted above.
Posted by: templar knight | Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 05:23 PM
another baseless post by TK.
point by point here, for the functionally literate
"Diety" go read Seeker's post above, I was making fun of him.
"Bill Clinton" -- tell me, what civil rights did Clinton roll back during his presidency? Give me one example. Unless you think welfare reform was rolling back people's rights, and odd position for a winger to take.
"cousin of a monkey" -- First of all, apes. Second of all, why do we need to be anything more than that? Is your own existence so meaningless that you need to pretend you are something more than an animal? I like your forecasting, it's amusing, condescending, and pathetic. Don't pretend to know what I will do. You don't even know me. Why up above you were all convinced I was a latte drinker. If you fail in even guessing the simple things, don't dig deeper buddy. You'll end up looking like the miserable failure Bush has become.
Posted by: LOL | Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 06:35 PM
That you regard yourself (and by extension, all other humans) as being mere apes ... is telling.
It explains perfectly to me at least, why liberals and so many atheistic/secular humanists are so willing to look the other way when statist regimes like Mao's Red China and Stalin's USSR murder untold millions of people. Because in the end, we are all just useless lumps of ape-flesh, right?
Filthy, disgusting, overbreeding, carbon-driving-upping, SUV-driving apes, who are collectively all but a diseased boil on the hind end of your Goddess of Reason and Rationality, your Gaea.
And logging on to the PC by no means glorifies or bows to some "Diety of Rational blah blah..."
Rather, my PC, and these "internet tubes", and the rest of what "science" has given us is a testimony to the human intelligence created in us by the Living God.
That idol you say I bow down to exists only to the degree that you have denied the Son of God.
I humbly invite you to rethink this stance - for if you deny Him, so also will He deny you before the holy angels and before His Father... he will be perfectly justified when He says to you on the last day:
"Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels..." (Matthew 25:41)
Are you ready for that day, LOL?
While you live, it is not too late to repent and embrace Jesus and accept His forgiveness for sins.
I pray that you will be, and that you will repent.
Posted by: seekeronos | Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 09:39 PM
well now, hang on a second!
*I* regard liberals as being no better than mere apes, TOO! worse, actually: no ape has ever wanted to establish - and more importantly, *operate* - a totalitarian liberal nanny state, replete with mandatory prison sentences for not obeying the laws "meant to insure your safety! also, it's *for the children*!!"
mere apes have no interest in raising taxes for use in vote-buying and power-grabbing schemes; as liberals do.
hmmm. ya know, *actually*, liberals are no better than....cockroaches. that's in the bible, right?
