An amazing read for an American, from of all places, the BBC.
America did not come from nowhere. It was an offspring of Europe, the step-child of a corrupt, moribund post-feudal system. America encapsulated the principles of the Enlightenment - Liberty, Equality, Fraternity - wrapped them in the pursuit of happiness, underpinned them with an inalienable right and turned an IDEA into a country.

Great read, but I hate the BBC.

Nice article but you could taste the magnaminity. I couldn't believe at the very end, the author mentions Abu Ghraib as he's coming up with reasons, despite a number of set-backs, to admit America is a fine country. A few stooges being nasty to some prisoners defines our country yet? What that incident does is define how the MSM can take a nothing incident and turn it into worldwide outrage. Oh, um... yeah. So thanks for the nice article, Mister.
