A Note To Hillary Rodham Clinton
Update at bottom
Remember when you launched your web presence with a mostly non-existent conversation with America? With the obvious and necessary limitations imposed between the people, media and someone running, or considering a run for a major office, in case you're interested, ask Fred Thompson, this is what a conversation looks and sounds like.
Also, video of Fred Thompson at the Lincoln Club at Hot Air. Text at ABC.
Things can change quickly, right now if Thompson gets in, my instincts say it's between him and Romney and I wouldn't count Romney out, as I think he's sharp and determined. That might be an interesting and informative primary race to watch.
But I'm sure others feel differently and things do change.
Not to change the subject but keeping with the media theme, President Bush addressed the milboggers at a conference this morning.

If it came down to Fred and Mitt in the primary I wouldn't know what to do with two candidates that can actually communicate ideas clearly.
Fred rocked at the Lincoln Club speech. He needs to announce.

I'm suspicious of the Obama-like coverage the media is giving Fred. Why are they covering his speech on CNN,letting him write at NRO, popping up on Fox--unlike any other candidate? I saw on a blog he was to star as Gen.Grant in a movie next year. Who gets help like that? Meanwhile Romney is getting smeared with two anti-Mormon movies and a PBS revue of Mormonism made to unsettle.
Is Fred to be McCain's VP, to make John more palatable to conservatives?

On second thought, why should Fred announce now? He's making speeches and getting as much coverage as those with their hats in the ring. His numbers are rising in the polls and he isn't spending campaign money to do any of it. People are listening to his every word to see if he'll announce and the calls for his candidacy are growing every day. Can any of the others say that?
Just because everyone else is doing this the old way doesn't mean it's the only way or the best way.

"to make John more palatable to conservatives"
Ain't gonna happen. COns won't come out for McCain in enough numbers if he had Reagan's ghost for a VP. He would lose ti Hillary or Obama from lack of support from the base. If he gets the nod, we're toast. As for Thompson announcing, good points, Buzzy, but Cons aren't a patient bunch. Trying to be too smart by half usually pisses us off, don't you think?

Actually not Dan, I think that Fred's non campaign to this point strikes a chord with old growth conservatives. We've got to remember that Fred was drawn in to run, he didn't set up a campaign for years in advance and he actually doesn't thirst for the power of the Presidency like some (most, maybe all the others). He has contract obligations and while he might be able to get out of them he is honoring them. The moment he announces he screws the very people who he made a commitment to and contract with because they won't be able to air a show that he is in, so June it is and for very moral reasons, not for the sake of being cute or tricky. How do I know this... he told all of us.

What would be really nice is if our president, the guy that actually makes decisions - 28% approval approval - would have a conversation with the America people instead of just saying stay the course, surge, etc. What would American Public say? Get the hell out of Iraq!
State of the Republican Party - waiting around for a miracle - Fred Thompson ain't it. As long as George Bush refuses to listen to the American Public, Republican candidates have the anchor of Iraq firmly lashed to their necks.

Buzzy's coment describes the state of the Republican party in a nutshell:
"If it came down to Fred and Mitt in the primary I wouldn't know what to do with two candidates that can actually communicate ideas clearly."
Ecstasy for Republicans is someone that can actually string a couple sentences together to make a coherent thought
George Bush replies: There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again.

Please not ANOTHER actor! On the other hand anything would be better than another Clinton or another Bush.

"As long as George Bush refuses to listen to the American Public,..."
Good damn thing he doesn't listen. Half of the American public are idiots.

And yet the Democrat party can only find Shrillery and Osama to run. So your plan is to elect someone who tries to sound black or someone raised in a madressa in Indonesia. Yeah, that'll work.

What will the Democrat platform be in 2008? It might be something like this: (1) Get out of Iraq by date X whether we are winning or losing. Above all announce date X early so the enemy has plenty of time to prepare for it. (2) Initiate socialized medicine, but under a deceptive name, with no free choice for any American (includes illegals of course). (3) Set up a massive Government agency to oversee socialized medicine. (4) Include plumbers and truck drivers/teamsters under hate crimes legislation with a plan to add all union members in the near future. (5) Reduce military spending. (6) Increase and add taxes, such as a fuel tax and CO2 emissions tax. (6) Stop all national oil drilling, why just in Alaska? Well, as the BP ads say, it's a start.
