Suddenly, sometime after 9 a.m., a young man walked into the German class with two handguns and shot instructor Christopher James Bishop in the head.

Then he began firing at the students. Shot after shot, “some 30 shots in all,” said Trey Perkins, who was seated in the back of the German class. There were about 15 students, and Perkins said the relentless gunman had a “very serious but very calm look on his face.”

Update: An Israeli lecturer was killed at Va Tech

The first item is from the Indian press. It confirms part of a FaceBook posting.

Reports have it that an Indian-origin professor is among those killed in the campus massacre.

Professor G V Loganathan of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was teaching in a class in the Norris Hall – one of the crime scenes – when the gunman went on rampage.

What I wanted to say, law enforcement all over have to change their way of thinking, being able to recognize, especially in a venue like VT, that something more could be going on. So it is very common for people to start guessing about the identity of the shooter. My own mental image of the guy at first was either a muslim or a white guy. Both were equally plausible for me because those are the two most common types of mass murders. This isn't hate or racism it is just human nature.
Now as far as it being impossible for him to be a muslim terrorist because he is from Asia well thats not a good arguement. Islamic terrorism is on the rise in Indonesia, Philippines and Thialand.
We must also acknowledge the fact that the media has some history of not reporting certain things about stories if they don't fit with their agenda. And last but not least there have been many recent SJS attacks by muslims here in the USA in the last few years.
So if people leap to conclusions about who was responsible it is not without reason.
