Update: Allah has several links on the story. I'd offer a different analysis, though I do see his point.
Update: Dan Riehl’s following rumors on the V Tech sports bulletin board that the shooter caught his girlfriend in bed with someone and shot both of them. That doesn’t make sense, though; how often do crimes of passion turn into spree killings
The scenario below explains one of the stories biggest issues so far. Police find a double murder at 7:15 but aren't worried about a roaming murderer, as it looks like a romance gone bad, revenge killing. So they don't close down the school. Meanwhile, the guy is borderline to start with, loses face, snaps - gets worse in the two hours before class - and when he shows up, just goes off. If you read some of the swirling reports, I believe including from the kid, O'dell, shot in the dorm, he claims many of these folks moved in similar social and academic circles. If the perp snapped and felt he lost face among everyone, he decided to burn everything down. If he is Asian, whatever that really means, Muslim or not, it might be interesting to see how any belief system he had impacted things. Maybe everything around him ended up looking decadent, or deserving of being eliminated in his ultimately crazed state of mind. Check out Hot Air link above for more.
Story still developing.
This below is allegedly an email from an EMS on site - it's posted at the official Hokies sports board:
Guys,
Yes, I responded to assist with the shootings. Thanks to an overwhelming number of other responders, I didn't treat any of the patients. However, I think have a clearer version of the story than what has been released on the news. I'm not sure on the total body count though. While the news is currently reporting 22, I've heard as many as 40. As far as those injured, I have no idea. I do know that Montgomery Regional and NRV had to go on diversion because they were overwhelmed by numbers of patients.
Approximately 7 of the more critical patients were transported to Roanoke Memorial and Lewis-Gale. The shooter is among those dead. To the best of my understanding (from first-hand accounts) this all started with an ex-boyfriend finding his girlfriend in bed with another guy. He then shot them, killing the guy immediately and the girl died at RMH. The shooter then went to Norris hall and entered a classroom opening fire.
This does hit close to home on a number of levels. Everything from the fact that we all lived in that dorm to classes that we took in Norris Hall. It's still hard for me to believe that something so tragic occured. It makes last August's events with Morva look like child's-play.

Here's my guess. The shooter and his girlfriend are asian.
The lover is white. All the people dead from the Norris Hall
incident are white males.

Asian revenge attacks?
"In August, a farmer with lung cancer set off a bomb on a bus in Fuzhou in southeastern Fujian province, wounding 31 people, and in July a murder suspect set off a bomb in a shopping mall in northeastern China, injuring 47 people.
A man set off a bomb on a bus in the western Xinjiang region in January 2005, killing 11 people.
On Saturday, Xinhua reported an explosion in a coal mine in Xinjiang in November was set off deliberately in the Beitaishan Coal Mine, killing 11 people.
Perhaps there are other bombings we haven't heard about, and religious nationalism cannot be ruled out in the case of Xinjiang (or East Turkestan), but it seems that suicide bombing in China is driven as much by individuals bent on revenge as by religion, nationalism, or occupation."

I don't think the RA was the girl's lover. She was shot in the back of the head at 7:15 A.M. Chances are she was asleep. The RA probably heard the noise and went to check. That's his/her job. (RA's getting involved with their charges is verboten.)
