"Apparently the *principle* just wasn't old school enough!"

HA HA HA.

hahaha.......

But were they holding hands?

shame on whoever planted the video device in the office. lmao

Buzzy they can teach sex ed:)

"Buzzy they can teach sex ed:)"

Apparently the students knew about it for some time. So it seems they already did teach sex ed!

Karma can be a bitch...Or a nappy headed ho.

must be a slow news day.

That or dan's ignoring all the current government scandals going on. Why is that Dan? I thought you cracked down on government corruption

the top 2 stories on google news are the Gonzales case, and then the Wolfowitz case. Come on now Dan, if a democratic appointee to the World Bank had done a similar thing, what would you be doing? Why are you so shallow and unprincipled?

They are ignored because they are result of leftist wishful thinking. Hype it all you want-there is nothing there. Well, nothing but your masturbatory fantasies. Surrender on cowards.

masturbotory fantasies..........LMFAO.
What other satisfaction can a fat ass find.

Poor Cindi, awake at 5 AM on a Saturday morning. I'd be angry too. Ready for a full day of discussing foreign policy with veterans at the walmart? I'm sure that you will have a full report later. Surge on, Ms Patriot!!!

Bob planted the camera.

This has been a tough week for the wingers.

New, highly anticipated study shows, SURPRISE, SURPRISE, that abstinance only programs have no effect on teenage sex, the best the dumbfuck spokesperson could come up with was that they didn't increase sex and, oh yeah, the programs are all different and better now.

Paul "I've been on the wrong side of every political battle" Wolfowitz is about to end his unsuccessful worthless politicized tenure at the World Bank.

The US attorney scandal just keeps on giving, can't wait for more lies on the missing emails and for Gonzales to perjure himself before Congress or show himself up for the incompetant idiot hack he's always been.

And, my personal favorite, we now have another worthless, PR stunt for the Iraq war, what we need is a WAR CZAR, that's the problem, the Sec. of Defense has better things to do, apparently and so does the Commander in Chief.

The Bush Administration is a disgrace, whether or not you are a conservative, a republican, an evangelical or living in fear of the muslim hordes, you should admit this man and his administration are utter failures all around.

I've been saying that for years, this nation would be 90% Democrat right now if the DEMs weren't worse than Bush on almost every issue.

"the best the dumbfuck spokesperson could come up with was that they didn't increase sex"

So if its not abstinance programs, then what has been driving teen sex and pregnancies up since say the 1950's?

Buzzy,

You are right. Every election that comes around I hope for the Democrats to get it together, put together a centrist platform that appeals to the average person. I am almost always disappointed. Its also stunning to see how bad the recent presidential campaigns have been. They are on their way to destroying their chances for 08. I don't believe the Iraq surge is going to work or show any significant progress by election time. However, I think the Ds are wrong that this alone will put them in the white house. People don't like Hillary. I don't like Hillary, she has all the bad qualities of Bill--very liberal, know it all, intellectual with none of his good qualities--charisma, ability to make compromises.

Um, maybe the sexual revolution in the 1960s and the availability of contraception for women, maybe and society's decision that its okay to be unmarried and have a baby.

If abstinance programs showed lower rates of teen sexual activity then I would have to grudgingly admit they are effect and deserve to be expanded.

Why can't the wingers do the same thing? This was the study commissioned by Congress, it tracked the 'best of the best' of the abstinance only programs and showed they are INEFEFCTIVE. Why can't wingers admit it?

Probably because abstinence programs were doomed to failure when they were relegated to the dusty corner of the garage by public schools and our media swamped society, given less class time in public sex education classes than "put the condom on the banana" and treated as a laugh track on TV, in the movies etc. When you treat any program like "reefer madness" and encourage kids to laugh at it as opposed to taking it seriously as a viable option you've doomed it to failure.

But the question remains can abstinence gain any traction in our free and open society? I doubt that it can unless our society is made much less free and open, and that's a price I'm not comfortable with paying. Possibly the Democrats are, they're going after freedom of speech and freedom of the press in a big way right now. It wasn't too long ago that Tipper Gore etal. went after the rap music crowd in a big way for their music lyrics. Today Imus, tomorrow every-one's freedom of speech.

I think you're right that the DEMs have destroyed their chances for the White House in '08 and I think the next couple of Congressional election cycles will show less and less support for those DEMs in power there. The very vocal wingbat brigade of the Democratic Party has scared the hell out of a lot of true blue American Democrats just like Al Gore and John Kerry scared a lot of Democrats into voting for Bush. IF (notice the big IF) the GOP will abandon the globalist policies of the Bushes and return to fiscal conservatism, common sense national security, and leave the social issues as State's rights the DEMs would have a tough time ever regaining the White House unless they purged the far left socialist from their midst and moved towards the center.

Bullshit. Hundreds of millions have been spent on abistance only. It doesn't work. Telling children to wait until marriage to have sex is ridiculous in this day and age. Mandating that abstinance only programs can't even MENTION contraceptives is madness.

What the FUCK is wrong with a middle ground here. Teach children that sex isn't like what you see on TV, having sex before you are read has serious emotional consequences. Let them read some real life stories of what has happened to teens who had sex too soon. Explain to them that sex is NOT something to take casually. They should wait. They should only have sex with someone in a committed relationship, where they won't have to worry about being used for sex. The corrollary to this is that it is IRRESPONSIBLE to have sex without protection, no matter how old you are. Then, give them the information. Don't repeat over and over that they should abstain until marriage and oh by the way, condoms will give you HIV.

They don't work, because they don't work. The decline in teen pregnancy over the last 10 years is due to increased use of contraceptives, NOT abstinance.

"Karma can be a bitch....or a nappy headed ho." HR... funny..

You know that phrase will never die. :) It will morph into so many thing that Imus will live in infamy. Thank you, Jesse and Al, for making sure 'nappy headed ho' hangs around long after you two slime buckets kick it. I wonder if Urban Slang has picked it up yet....

Nowinger,

I'm not a winger, a lefty, a libertarian... I'm not a label. But. Abstinence programs don't work. Neither does anything else. We can't best human nature on this one, so it behooves us to be honest and fair to the kids who choose to have sex and to point out - without judgment - the costs of it. We owe kids the truth without prejudice.

PA,

I read someplace that the stats on pre-marital sex rise and fall for any number of reasons. For sure, they've gone up, but it may be we just have more honesty in kids admitting to it. I don't know. I asked one of my senior classes how many had had sex and I was amazed. About 60% had, and the equation of male/female was almost equal. It was the reasons for having sex that bothered me most, though. About half of the kids who'd had sex didn't really want to have it. They were not raped, nor had the boys raped any girls.... they just kind of felt as if they should. That could be an opening into some classroom, 'easy' talk about sex - as opposed to 'lessons' in it.

It all changes in college though.

Here's the problem with both left and right. The left doesnt' want to make ANY judgement. There is a mountain of evidence that shows the downside to teens having sex: girls are more apt to be in violent relationships, early promiscuity is precurser to other problems, its difficult for teens to set proper boundaries so the chance for rape increases, emotional problems, teen pregnancy is a precurser to poverty, high school drop out, etc. Teenagers need more than "Here's a slide of the reproductive system and here's how you put a condom on". There is nothing wrong with using FACTUAL evidence to make a case for why sex belongs in a relationship and why you need a certain degree of maturity to handle it.

The right wants to ban all sex outside of marriage. I personally can't imagine marrying someone I had never had sex with. I find the notion bizarre. That we'd be teaching teens this, equally bizarre. The right wants to make a MORAL judgement without any facts to back it up. I don't believe there is anything immoral about sex or that it has to be for married people alone. Adding insult to injury, the right want to define a medievil idea of sexual morality and keep teenagers ignorant of the facts. Most abstinance only programs can't even mention contraception. Stupid, just stupid. I believe the wingers hate sex and thats why they are against abortion AND sex education. Their true goal is to turn back the clock to the time when women who weren't virgins were sluts and tramps, the wingers want women to 'pay for' having sex outside of marriage. Otherwise, wingers would all be pro contraception, but they're not. Wingers aren't pro-life they are ANTI SEX.

I gotta disagree with this: "she has all the bad qualities of Bill--very liberal, know it all, intellectual with none of his good qualities--charisma, ability to make compromises." Nowinger.

Bill was very liberal? First of all he spent his whole time as prez talking about a "third way" between liberalism and conservatism. But maybe you say that was bullshit political posturing.

What are his lasting accomplishments as president? AFDC reform and NAFTA it seems. Two kinda conservative accomplishments. And a balanced budget too, isn't strict spending also supposed to be conservative? I'm sorry I just don't see how he's "very liberal", especially if you compare him to Carter or Johnson.

In my graduating high school class of approx 250 people, there were zero got pregnant. The following year's class, one did. That was 1976 though.

"They are ignored because they are result of leftist wishful thinking. Hype it all you want-there is nothing there. Well, nothing but your masturbatory fantasies. Surrender on cowards."

Oh please, if Wolfowitz was a dem president appointment, this would be all over Riehlworld, and everyone would talk about it as evidence of how corrupt dems are.

I actually have a hard time even writing about abstinence programs. I guess my take on them is that they still need to be out there for those that would choose that path even though you know that most won't. And yes, contraception should also be a topic teens need to be well versed in as does VDs and AIDS / HIV.

Buzzy,

You know what works best with teenagers? Honesty. I know that sounds dumb, but kids are wise these days compared to the days when it was a sin to even talk about sex. "Just say No" is the biggest joke of the world. Telling kids they must abstain or they will have guilt the rest of their lives is a joke. It's not true - that's why. Having sex doesn't ruin a person. It's what a person is made to feel about the act that ruins them. Plain talk and honest discourse is the best. I spent 20 years teaching teenagers, and I just expected the best out of them and trusted that they'd give me their best. I made no rules, I set no standards in terms of 'you can't do this or that', etc., and I gave second chances without censure. What happened is the same thing that happens when you trust that a person is capable of living up to decent standards and behaviors - they want to. They want to keep your trust. It's such a simple concept, I was constantly amazed at teachers who spent more time figuring out punishments and how to 'get' their students than in just being cool with them.

Same goes for parents. Give it your best shot and then hope for the best because for a few years you won't matter to them except as some distant voice that nags at them as they go on with the business of being a teenager and going with the gang. The good news for most parents is that their teaching is not in vain in most cases. It does take a while to see it, though, and it can be maddening when a parent feels they've lost control.

:) I sound like a combination of Dr. Laura and Dr. Ruth. .... heh...That probably isn't such a bad thing.

PA,

We went through a couple of years when being pregnant was cool for school. That didn't last long, thank heavens. The kids wised up, and I think it was because word spread that raising junior was not much fun. Experience is a harsh mistress for those who insist on learning the hard way. But their example is a great tool for others.
