Okay, now I actually do question the timing on this.
Michelle has more than enough links and background on the DC Madam controversy we can expect to break wide open very soon. I saw something that concerned me and wanted to check it out.
Palfrey's attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley, said yesterday that he has been contacted in the past few days by five lawyers asking whether their client's phone numbers are on Palfrey's list of 10,000 to 15,000 customers from 2002 to 2006
Palfrey didn't begin her operation in 2002, she was first a hallmark of the Clinton years.
Palfrey states My business operated successfully without incident, as an adult fantasy service from 1993 to August 2006.
Now what names do you think we won't get to see due to this customer list beginning only in 2002? I imagine many high profile Dems, elected and otherwise were leaving DC just about the time she started keeping records. Don't look for the media to dig too deep into them.
It looks like Republicans are in for a real screwing from the DC Madam. I guess they're about to get their money's worth ... and more.

Well at least we'll get a leg up on purging the RINOs from the party.

Dan, I expected this. It has been obvious from the beginning that the media has only been interested in the Republican aspect of this, but I'm with Buzzy. Might as well purge all the dead-enders now.

You will have to excuse Bob. He has what is known as the SPS (small penis syndrom). He tries to make up for the UHHH lack of... well you know.

A vast leftwing conspiracy Dan? C'mon, you can do better than that.

Spart,
This has been predicted for a long time. It's no vast left-wing conspiracy. It's just whatever this woman did to make a deal. You can probably bet BOTH sides cut real hard to make a deal with her and her lawyers.
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. Personally, I figure there will be more republicans on her list than democrats. I think the reasons are obvious, and it will be bad. But what the hell.... scare the poop out of them.
My personal feeling is that this is a shame. If a guy wants to pay for an escort for whatever reason, so what? It's his business, and, needless to say, the oldest and most popular business in the world since forever. Republican or democrat, I feel sorry for whoever gets caught because this is private stuff and has no reflection on how a person governs or does his job.

Hello? Why's it so dark in here?

These guys are rich and powerful, they could have hopped a weekend jet to Nevada where it is legal. They nedd to be punished and thrown from office.
On a side note it has always puzzled me as to why the libs have not organized the sex worker industry. Lets not kid ourselves it is a multibillion dollar industry. It is the one place where the natural desire of the Dems to tax and regulate private enterprise might really do some good. Sex workers are some of the most exploited and abused people in this country. How many are murdered each year by serial killers and never found or mourned? How many face horrific beatings by their pimps or Johns and find no help?
If you don't want to look at it from a moral point of view lets look at it from a dollar and cents point. How much money do we spend on police fighting this crime? Police who could be much better used going after violent criminals. How much do we spend in medical costs that could be avoided if these women had access to good, regulated medical care? How much money could we raise from taxes and licensing fees on these workers and legal and safe brothels? My guess is that it would be well into the billions. Maybe enough to pay for universal health care.

I'm not going to debate the decriminalization or legalization of prostitution, it's been a long day at the end of a very long week here.
But I will say that in DC prostitution is against the law. If a lawmaker or other civil servant can't obey the law then they need to find another career. If they're married then they need to find another career and a good divorce attorney.

SDB,
Let the democrats run the business for the tax? ha ha. Excellent!
You're talking about the worldwide exploitation of women in the sex industry vs. a very smooth operating Madam. She worked out of California and had one hell of a business. Big money stuff. You can bet her escorts were top knotch.
The way I look at this particular Madam is this: She serviced high-paying clients and those men who used her services, knew they would not be exploiting anyone. I think a man in DC, away from home, working all day with government people might just want to relax with a nice woman whose job it is is to make him feel good. I don't mean 'all' sex. I just don't have a problem with it. In another world, it's like a regular guy going out to a bar looking for a hook-up. The All-American activity: Men like women, women like men. Why make more of it than it is? We surely can't employ our moral values onto another. We can expect moral behavior from our 'leaders', but who defines that moral behavior when it comes down to something so common and private as a man wanting the company of a woman?
Now here's something I call immoral: A regular non-Mormon is not allowed to go into Mitt Romney's tabernacle. And he's running for president of our country where most see his religion as a cult? That's immoral.
