Given Harry Land Shark Reid's own statements, he's prepared to sell out our troops for perceived political gain by sponsoring a bill with the leading anti-American Senator Russ Feingold:

Washington D.C. -­ U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced today that they are introducing legislation that will effectively end the current military mission in Iraq and begin the redeployment of U.S. forces. The bill requires the President to begin safely redeploying U.S. troops from Iraq 120 days from enactment, as required by the emergency supplemental spending bill the Senate passed last week. The bill ends funding for the war, with three narrow exceptions, effective March 31, 2008.

Speaking at the National Press Club in 2005, now-Majority Leader Harry Reid said this:

"As far as setting a timeline, as we learned in the Balkans, that's not a wise decision, because it only empowers those who don't want us there, and it doesn't work well to do that."

Reid can no longer pretend to be supporting our troops given his own logic. He's sold out to the Kos Kidz and become just another unpatriotic Democrat politician.

What is occurring at this moment appears to be an acceleration, as various insurgent factions (Sunni and Shia) are trying to break up the progress being made in converting their former allies into ours.

As you might expect, civilian casualties have risen since the Petraeus version of COIN has been implemented as Sunni insurgents, al Qaeda terrorists, and the "bad" JAM attempt to derail proven COIN strategy and tactics with the only method they understand—more violence.

This is incredibly counterproductive for insurgents and terrorists, of course. It leads to situations were Sunni militiamen are standing guard with Marines and pointing out IED locations instead of setting them. It leads to situations where the Iraqi security forces and Sunni tribesmen ambush and slaughter entire al Qaeda units. The difference is subtle, but the underlying currents seem to be changing perceptibly against the insurgency.

This isn’t to say that the war will be resolved soon. It won’t. But saying that the War is lost betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of how insurgencies operate, how they are fought, and why most insurgencies end up losing.

Name one sign of progress in Iraq - just one. Number of Iraqi death declining? Nope. American deaths? Nope. Disarming the militias? Nope. Cleasing the domestic security forces of terrorists? Nope. Reducing the ability of the Sunni insurgency to kill? Nope. Securing the Green Zone? Nope.

What are we doing in Iraq? Backing a government filled with Shia terrorists who owe their allegiance to Iran. Only traitors, i.e., right wingers, believe that Americans should die for that cause. I don't believe that Americans should have to die to empower Shia terrorists. Right wingers do. That's the difference between the right and the left in America today.

Confederate Yankee, you just don't get it. The domestic security forces are full of Shia bad guys and nothing, repeat nothing is going to root them out. They will continue to kill Sunnis. Sunnis, in turn, will continue to kill them. The Iraqi government will do nothing to root them out.

Look what happened in Tal Afar last week. Iraqi police - yes police - slaughtered innocent Sunnis in revenge killings. The police officers - yes, police officers - were taken into custody, and then they were released. Released! And the right wing in this country did not raise even a peep. Not a damm word.

That is the reality in Iraq today. We are siding with government security forces that massacre innocents. We are arming them. Paying for their ammunition, weapons, equipment. We are training them. Training them to kill innocent civilians. Giving them the weapons to do it.

And what does Bush and his cult members have to say? Not a word. They are just fine with it. They just keep on arming, and training, and backing the same government that let these terrorists kill at will.

My tax dollars are funding these fanatics. It's insane, really. But the Bush cult kids like Confederate Yankee seem to have no problem with it.

You unilaterally decide--and provide no evidence to support--the charge that the Sunni's massacred as a result of the twin truck bombings were "innocents."

I'm quite sure many victims were, but did you ever wonder why that one particular neighborhood in Tal Afar was targeted for retaliation? That is something we don't know at this point, and something that that the three government agencies investigating the massacre are attempting to discover.

You also act as if the officers who carried out these extra-judicial killings are free and walking the street, when that is not the case at all. The IA released the police officers to avert a riot, and the Iraqi police rearrested them and two civilians in took them into custody the same day. You are either lying, or only bothering to learn enough of the story to support your own agenda. Either approach is dishonest.

As for "raising a peep," I certainly blogged about this massacre... twice, as a matter of record. I also used sources in Iraqi to scoop the NY Times about the joint investigation launched by the Iraqi Interior Ministry, Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry for National Security of this massacre.

You present the part of the relatity in Iraq today that supports what you want to be true. I do the best I can to cover the good, the bad, and the ugly.
