The Navy has not confirmed the death, Fox News claims they have confirmed it through sources on the ground and also that a coroner has been dispatched.
(CBS4) BEAUFORT, S.C Witnesses say a plane which was part of the Blue Angels precision flying team performing Saturday at an airshow near Beaufort, SC appears to have crashed into a wooded area near the airfield hosting the show. There has been no official confirmation from the Navy, but witnesses told CNN that they saw smoke, and some claimed homes were on fire.
Television station WSAV in Savannah, GA, said at least one plane crashed and had started a fire, but other reports contradicted that. A state trooper told CNN that he had not seen a fire, and had heard the pilot was still alive.

All the major news services are reporting one dead now. Sounds like the pilot stayed with the plane to try to minimize the damage on the ground. American pilots do crazy things like that.
My first memories of even knowing what an airplane was are from a Blue Angels performance over the Wabash River just north of Vincennes in the early '50s. Gruman Cougars at that time, IIRC. I don't remember a lot from that far back but they made quite an impression on me.
I mourn.

I wonder if NBC will tell us as much about the pilot in the next few days as they have about the worthless scum that caused all the commotion at Virginia Tech Monday. Just askin'.

SURGE ON, Blue Angels

see, things like vetter's classy comment are why the democrat/liberal party is known the world over for quiet, honorable, deeply impressive behavior. well, that and the paul wellstone funeral/pep rally.
no.....wait a second!!.....

Bill Faith, I know exactly what you mean about the Blue Angels. I can't remember how old I was (pretty young) but I can remember watching a Blue Angels demonstration at an air show. I was amazed then and still am today at their ability to maneuver their aircraft. They were flying the F11A Tiger at that time. It wouldn't surprise me if the pilot did stay with the airplane to attempt to guide it away from people.
I'll join you in mourning this loss.

Bob, I could be mistaken but I think Vetter's comment was meant as a positive show of support for the Blue Angels. At least, I hope so.

That's how I took it too Dan. At least I hope so also.

Harry Reid does not support the Blue Angels. He cut their funding and they had to fly with half tanks of gas.

must disagree, guys. the flaming liberal loons here are just *in love* with that word "surge". and they use it whenever possible, in the snarkiest and most wiseass ways.
someone actually offering *support* to the BA'a, would have said something like "fly on", or made a comment about how the navy invented precision flying, etc.
vetter said "surge on, blue angels". now why'd he do that? the BA isn't part of the "surge": they're not even a combat unit. why else would he/she do that if not for liberal assholishness?

BB: In another incarnation I go back to the Taylor Behl case with vetter and have read alot of his entries..at least concerning that case. I will be real surprised to find out the remark was made in meanness.

then too, in a post down the page on the 'abortion' item, vetter makes the comment that abortion opponents should "surge on!". and the "cons" supporting iraq should "surge on!", followed by chapter-n-verse liberal assholishness. etc etc etc.
so you tell me.

Never said vetter isn't a lib and never said I always agree. I am assuming it's the same guy who wrote very decent things about Taylor Behl and was very kind to the girl's mother. Based solely on that, I can't see him being so crass about the death of anyone, military or not. Just saying I would be real surprised is all, you may be right.

Or it could be a sockpuppet.
BiS (BobinStamford) has upwards of two or three dozen "personas" here, all of which like to use the "surge on, ....." line with parrot-like mindlessness.
