Okay, it isn't up yet ... but it soon will be. I guess with so many would be felons in Congress like cold cash Jefferson, it isn't right for the states to keep them from voting. Note - Crist is a Republican.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Most felons released from prison will have their voting and other civil rights restored under a rule approved Thursday by Republican Gov. Charlie Crist and the state clemency board.
All but the most violent felons would avoid the need to get on a long list for a hearing before the board, which sometimes takes years.
The board voted 3-1 with Attorney General Bill McCollum, another Republican, strongly objecting.
Crist has made it clear since before he was governor that he was in favor of making it easier for felons who have done their time to vote. He pushed the measure forcefully, and rejected McCollum's assertion that it was welcoming the worst of the worst back into society too easily.

"Dem Voter Registration Up In Florida.
...
Note - Crist is a Republican."
hahaha! I had to double check this site to make sure I wasn't on the Onion. Man, comedy gold.

I think that was the logic back in Vietnam. If they can serve in the military, why can't they vote?
Posted by: Zifnab | Thursday, April 05, 2007 at 01:24 PM
Unfortunately, I can't laugh about this. Felons lose their rights because they have shown serious and often lethal disregard for their neighbors' rights. It's bad enough that convicted felons usually become repeat offenders & learn nothing from their incarceration. Now Florida must give them equal treatment to law-abiding citizens as well. Shows just how far greedy & stupid politicians will go to win elections. Do ANY of those idiot officials and the idiot voters who empowered them understand how to properly run a government anymore?

The only saving grace is that felons probably won't bother to vote. The last thing they want is their name signed up with any more county, state, government organizations.

exdem i dont see what's wrong with restoring full rights to someone who has served their time. If you serve out your sentence, you should have full rights, otherwise it's just a double punishment.
But ah, authoritarianism... of course

I think it's great! It's one of the reasons alot of us voted for Crist. That and, he was instrumental in stopping the Schiavo debacle and declared Michael Schiavo not guilty of anything after too many investigations showed he was innocent of any wrongdoing. He called the dogs off and said that Jeb Bush overstepped his bounds and performed miserably during nonsense. GOOD for Charlie!!!!!!!!!!!

"Aren't most felons also soldiers?"
No, but most retards are usually liberals.
Ah yes, way to again support the tropps lefties. Thanks for proving what we've been saying all along.

So, LOL,
I'm thinking.... you're thinking the first thing a felon does when he gets out of jail is run to sign-up to vote? Right. Their patriotism to their country makes 'em do it.
Posted by: Phoenix | Thursday, April 05, 2007 at 02:04 PM
I agree. Felons don't vote anyway. That's why 78% of them join the Democratic Party, the Party of non-voters.
Wait... oh noes! Horrible logical inconsistances! How can 78% of felons be affiliating with Democrats if they don't actually vote? Why would your arguement against felon enfranchisement revolve around the claim that felons don't register? What exactly is the point of all this sneering and insult flinging?
Oh, it's all coming to me now. Felon = Democrat. Hence all felons are democrats. Felons don't vote, because they're not patriotic. Hence Democrats aren't patriotic. People who quote statistics about ex-soldiers who are thrown in jail hate the troops, because only a despicable sleeze would mention that horribly embarassing statistic in polite conversation. Hence, STFU and surge on!
QED.

Ziffy, you know what would be great? If you would take your own advice.

Phoenix, how is it wherever you are? Been riding that tractor? In the cold? With a beer?

I have a great idea. Let's just let everyone who wants to vote. The felons should vote, after all, who's looking out for them? Sign 'em up in the state and federal prisons, and let 'em vote absentee. Hell, let 'em vote two or three times, then they can feel really good about themselves. Kinda like they do in Chicago. It'll give them that Al Gor...uh..Capone type feeling.
And the illegal aliens, sign 'em up. They pay taxes, don't they? Oh, most of them work for cash, and don't pay taxes, but heh, their children need an education, and when they get sick, so what, go to the emergency room and clog everything up for American citizens. And if you can't pay, don't worry, the hospital can either close down or charge the American citizens more. And they send most of their money to Mexico. Uh, oh! Well, anyway, the illegals should definitely be able to vote themselves benefits from the public treasury.
On second thought, let's just approve the vote for anyone who might be interested in voting in our election. Didn't the British try to get involved in one of our elections a few years ago, under the auspices of a newspaper, and I use the term loosely, called the Guardian, which is apparently not inclined to guard anything that might be worthwhile.
Back to the subject at hand, I just heard a Somali immigrant say the other day that America is for everybody, everybody should be able to live off the fruits of America, because America lived off the fruits of others so long. See how it works, folks. You owe everything you own to the world. And the World should be able to vote, if they want to, in our elections. Now that's what I call fraternity.

Temp, you're one of those guys who argues that raising the minimum wage is stupid because you'd completely destroy business if everyone was required to earn $100/hr, aren't you?
Admit it, your real name is John Stossell.

Gee whiz, it's almost like that Christian concept of forgiveness. Don't these people know that 9/11 changed everything?
Posted by: scarshapedstar | Thursday, April 05, 2007 at 05:44 PM
No, Ziffy, I'm one of those guys who argues that the government should print up enough money to give everyone $1 million, and then everyone would be a millionaire, and we could all be happy and rich. Right, Zif.
And Ziffy, my guess is that you are the son of illegal aliens, or perhaps grandson, nothing to be ashamed of, by the way. But it tells me why you think the way you do.

seems like i recall the military giving around 800 waivers for felons. i suppose it would be okay to give around 800 waivers for felons to vote. but who is going to decide?
